When Blizzard showed the Protoss mother-ship, I think it was too overpowered, it could have been for preview of the unit or something, but if the ship itself is that powerful then I'm gonna have to huddle with my terran buddies and rush them if possible, which is not! XDIf the Mothership actually still had all the attacks it had in the demo-video, like the Earth Cracker and Black Hole, it would've been sooooo unbalanced, and somewhat fun at the same time

As it is now it's kinda meh tbh, tehe stealth ability feels like some half-asses Arbitor crap..
*Edit*
And the Thor needz some serious anti-air weapons, don't think it has any atm.

I haven't played the game in a long time, but whenever I played online, I was more of a Protoss player. Not a very good player, as I never had as much devotion to playing the game as a lot of people had.
My favorite race to follow these days though is Terran. I love watching both TvT and TvZ, and TvP is okay, though not one of my favorite match ups to watch.
So does anyone here follow the pro scene over in Korea? If you love or have ever loved StarCraft, it's really the best way to keep up with the game. Watching people play at the peak skill levels, constantly churning out new and innovative strategies (10 years after the game came out), finding a team/player you like and cheering for them, etc. I've been in awe at some of the things the players come up with. Really, the only negative to following the scene is if you want to watch live games. Staying up from 2-5am is less than ideal for me most times, so now I usually have to settle for a torrent two or three days later, and try to refrain from spoiling the results of the matches.
As for the Goliath and the Valkyrie, the Goliath actually sees a lot of use in the game. As previously mentioned, it's really an anti-air unit, and not great for a whole lot else, but combined with tanks and Vultures, a maxed Terran army is deadly.
The Valkyrie definitely doesn't see as much use, and was considered a useless unit for years, due to how difficult it was to control (If I recall correctly), but just a few months ago, someone figured out how to integrate them effectively into their army, and now while they're definitely a bit of a niche unit, they see a fair amount of use.
Now, on the subject of StarCraft II, it's no doubt going to be great. But I'm pretty miffed that beta just got pushed back to 2010, which will push the actual release to a late 2010, if not 2011, knowing Blizzard, for sure. From what I read, it's not even because the beta isn't ready, but because Blizzard just wants to fix all the kinks in the new Battle.net before they go forward with the beta.
Gameplay wise, it's a lot of fun. I had a chance to play a bit of single player a few months back, with Medics and Firebats, and the game still feels like StarCraft, despite the vastly overhauled graphics. It's very pretty, but honestly, I've never been a graphics hound myself, and would have been 100% fine if they just overhauled the current graphics, obviously adding new terrain and units. However, I realize I'm a minority, who just loves the game, and if they were to release the game like that, it wouldn't sell all too well.
My view on multi-player is that it will be great, but I only managed to get a few rounds in, and all of it was spent trying to cheese against players infinitely better than I am, and repeatedly getting my ass handed to me. I'm sure they'll have a lot of balance issues to work out, because from what they say, Terran is currently the strongest, and Zerg the weakest, and they're still trying to figure out what they need to do to fix that. Though obviously that's what beta will be for.

well' i hadn't play play the SC2 yet, but, if it comes to SC1, i choose Zerg. it's fun to have some rush with zergling at beginning of game and destroy 2 or 3 player on 1 attack. most of them was still too focused on economic and gathering mineral instead of building some defense.

I've never seen the point of rushing the enemy and ending the game in 5 minutes, sure you win, but that match can't have been all that fun lol.
Tournaments and shit is another thing though, im talking about casual playing with your m8's, i'd rahter have a long epic match than a short boring one.
Im probably in a minority here though.
[size=10](that said, mothafuckaz can't rush me, i keel yo)[/h]

@KLoWn: I know what you mean, but rushing is a valid tactic, and many people do it, and the pros do it all the time with their microing.

Yeah, in a friendly game, no one wants to have it end in 5 minutes. People will try all sorts of crazy things in other areas though. If someone is massing games on ICCup, trying to get their rank up, I'm sure there's quite a few people who try to cheese their way through and mass 10 minute games.
In proleague, cheeses and rushes do happen pretty frequently, but because everyone is nearly the same skill level (excluding a few people are really at the top), it's much safer to play standard, and not risk everything on a rush/cheese that will win you the game if it works, or lose you the game if it doesn't. That doesn't stop the pros from doing it in important games though (Fantasy's BBS on Jaedong in the proleague finals, for example).

I don't know about you, but my friends always try to rush each other when they can. In fact, they used to plan out their strategies in a different room. Fending off the 9-pool ling rush is tough, but I've never had a 4-pool done to me.

It is difficult to counter a Zergling rush depending on the Size As terrans can only rely on bunkers Marines and Firebats, and those do take time to make and minerals

Unless your opponent is a moron and suicides all of his lings at supply depots or your barracks and ignores your bunker and marines, you're going to have to use scvs as shields for your marines and repairers for your bunker. If your opponent 4 pools, then you'll be relying almost completely on your scvs to hold off the attack, unless of course you knew he was coming and went early barracks.
Of course, once you beat the rush, your opponent is fucked.

yeah. if opponent have built defense at early game, zerg rush have no point. zergling is a weak simpleton and can be easily killed. if we hadn't upgraded adrenaline glands, an army of zergling will be easily killed by terran firebats

Two things to comment on. One, most people who ling rush almost never go for building harass and they go straight for the mineral line. Even if they don't kill more than half of the workers, it's enough to give pause to your macro, while the opponent is already building more lings to roll you over. Two, the bunker only works if it's near your mineral line and other buildings. Instead, a lot of people just choke up their ramp with a bunker and a barracks and/or supply depot, and by the time one or two marines pop out, the lings would have arrived, but you're ready with a scv repairing a bunker with marines inside it.

and that Actually makes sense, as most terran players would block the choke point with a bunker or supply depot. I really find that strategy helpful if the enemy player is zerg, but there also comes into to play whether they do rush or not, which from could determine the outcome of the battle, as Zerg can be very powerful if left unchecked which is very tough for terrans to fight back.

Spider mines is your answer base defense, and goliaths are good for ground back up and mutalisks/guardians. Other that that, firebats are killer with zerglings, and some people succeed with Factory units. I'm not a Terran player, so the individual strategies to take down Zerg is different, but follows certain rules of thumb.

Plus Terrans are pure awesomeness in my book, I just really like that Race. In the End though SC1 was still awesome. and I'm still waiting for news on SC2 which Nothing has come out recently at all...

Most maps these days can either be walled off entirely with a Barracks and two Supply Depots, or have a very small gap, that zerglings can get through, but with an SCV there, and a marine or two behind, it's generally not a problem.
Of course, if for whatever reason the Terran decides not to wall off, lings are more able to run by, and cause a lot of damage. Of course, a 4-5 pool can be brutal, if all goes well for the zerg, because the wall usually isn't up yet by the time the lings are at your ramp (if it's either a two player map, or the Zerg just got lucky, and scouted/guessed the right location to send their zerglings).
The game here:
Is a perfect example of a well executed 4pool (the game actually starts at about 7 minutes in). Though with Fantasy's building placement, he very nearly held it off. If he had been able to get even one or two SCVs to surround his bunker and keep it up, Jaedong wouldn't have been able to win the game.
For Protoss vs Zerg, it's a bit different. Protoss generally don't wall into their main base like Terran does, but instead throw down a Forge at their natural, a cannon or two, a Gateway, and then probes to cover the remaining space, so that no lings are able to slip in. Replacing the probes with zealots once able to. Then they toss down a nexus, and fast expand. Though, usually the nexus starts before the gateway is placed, I think.

That was an impressive example of 4pool. God, those lings steamrolled the Terran base.
As for protoss, sometimes I go double gate and place them close enough to block the entrance way with a gateway and block the gap with two zealots and a probe.

I know. It's the reason I love StarCraft so much. I'm a terrible player myself and I only ever play casually with my friends, maybe a few games a year, but watching games like that just puts me on the edge of my seat, and deepens both my love for the game, and the limits these guys push the game to. Blizzard has stated many times that some of the strategies/things people think of (mutalisk stacking, stop lurker bug, etc) were never intended, and that the game was never meant to be played at 300-400+ APM (Actions Per Minute), like it is.
For some back story on that game:
Just a week before that games was the final for a team league (Proleague). Jaedong (the Zerg) made it to one of the last games, if he beat Fantasy (the Terran), he would have made it to the final match, and whoever won the final match would have won first for the season. The map was Neo Medusa, and Fantasy did a BBS (Barracks-Barracks-Supply) rush in the center of the map. Jaedong didn't spot it in time, and lost the game, and his team lost.
The game posted above is the second game in a best of 5 between Fantasy and Jaedong. Jaedong won the first game straight up, and was probably pretty angry/wanted to get Fantasy back, so he 4 pooled, and cheesed Fantasy much like Jaedong was just cheesed the previous week. Jaedong also went for fast lings (though no 4 pool)in the third game, and won the series 3-0.
