Starcraft I and II discussion thread - fav race?
What race do you like/play with?

@g-money It's no surprise you didn't hear about it, it's very recent news.
For general info from Giantbomb site SC II Trilogy
For an in-depth interview with SC2 Brain Trust
In a nut-shell the Terrans are the only playable campaign (story mode), but all three races will be available for multiplayer. The next will be zerg campaigns and lastly protoss each coming out a year or two after one another. They state the zerg campaigns are in the concept phase and they haven't touched it since they're working on terrans. Each race will have a total of 30 or so missions.
Since Protoss are set to be the last playable campaign race I'm guessing a somewhat "happy" end for the Starcraft universe.
I'm not too thrilled with waiting another few years for expansions. Or the fact there will be two of them, which means more money out of my pocket. But if they do a good job, which I think they will, I won't mind too much.

Fuck me sideways indeed. And 30 campaigns each? Jeezus.
It seems weird, the way Blizzard is doing things, because then everyone will be forced to play the other races by him or herself a lot and in downtime in order to play well in multiplayer. I'm primarily a Protoss player, but that means I'll have to waste plenty of hours outside of the main game to figure out the ins and outs of the race.
This stinks to high heaven.
As for the end, I'm still betting on the Xel'Naga reappearance. I'm still wondering wtf did Infested Duran did with those Protoss/Zerg hybrids.

Man, that mission gave me so many goosebumps...But I dunno if I'll like the starcraft gameplay as much...I've been playing warcraft 3 for so many years now that I've grown used to having a hero with powerful abilities along with my units...in starcraft it's just about units, no heros...

That's the nature of real-time strategy warfare. That bonus mission was weird indeed. I just used "the gathering" and "power overwhelming" and sicced my dark archons Mind Control ability on every Terran unit I could find.

I hear ya, I got the chills and a lot of questions from that mission. Is Duran working for Kerrigan or some other entity? Are Zerg researching new ways to mutate? It was a creepy playthrough.
I had the opposite experience with WC3, I couldn't get used to managing my hero units along with my army so I never fared well in normal play. Mostly stuck to playing DOTA

I think Duran was definitely working for the Xel'Naga, as that is the only race that's superior to every other race. I remember he mentions working for a "higher being", to which it leads me to the Xel'Naga as the progenitor of the Protoss and Zerg races. He also calls Zeratul young! - to which it implies that Duran has existed at least 1000+ years prior, and the only thing that existed back then was the Xel-Naga. (and the human race)

I forgot all about that. With that being the case, I think there's no doubt we'll see the Xel'naga show up, but I"m curious how. IIRC they lost control of and were subsequently beaten off by the Zerg. Then they went into hiding/abandoning the races to themselves. I gotta brush up on my SC lore.

I'm honestly a tad shaky on the reappearance of Xel'naga. I'm sure they will play a pivotal role, but not through their appearances, more like yet again their relics. If they did show up in person I wouldn't be suprised, but if they don't I wouldn't be either. They were near annihilated by the Zerg and have had to resort to conducting multiple experiments on random planets with one main caretaker, Duran.
My current idea is Raynor sacrificing himself to take out Kerrigan. Meanwhile the now rampaging zerg will undoubtedly encounter Arcturus. Protoss seize the chance to wipe out both zerg and the dominion.

Terran's personally as I was fascinated by the units looks and later on, Their functions and use in the game. I agree with most players that Terran are usually good at mid-game session. I do have problems whit the race though, such as the Goliath and Valkyrie, Those units barely served any purpose at all for offense or defense...especially against Zerg and Protoss. But the good part is, The Viking is gonna be a sick version of those two units in SC2! I am somewhat disappointed that SC2 is kicked to next year and that we have had no word of the beta at all...

Goliaths are an excellent unit for anti-air purposes. Kinda like the hydralisk/guardian combo, the goliath/siege tank combo is killer. I see it all the time with Terran players who use the heavy metal approach. The Valkyrie was dumb indeed, I agree, but it got rehashed with the goliath into the sick-ass Viking - awesome shit there. The Marauder unit is like a scaled down version of a goliath that can't attack air but does more ground damage in compensation.

@KLoWn: oh yeah, the concussion effect... yikes. The Terrans in SC2 have some real kick ass ground units this time around, like the Marauder, Hellion, and Reapers. Hellions replace the vulture unit but is so much more effective at Protoss with its flame-based special attack from the rehashed Firebat. Reapers... great units for wreaking havoc on the mineral line, especially with those C4 charges. I really like what I see with the Terran lineup, but it's literally full of brand-spanking new units that will take quite a while to get used to.

I was actually quite annoyed that the Firebats wasn't gonna make a return in SC2, but after watching the Battle Reports im all for the Hellions, they're fuckin awesome.
My favourite Terran unit so far must be the Thor, it's so goddamn brutal
Second is the Viking, always had a soft spot for walking mechas with a heavy machine gun mounted on each arm~

I'm still for Terran Marines, I do like the new upgrades for the unit, Shield, etc, At least it'll live longer then before in SC1 where an Ultralisk would kill them in two seconds or Zerglings. But yea, The Thor does have brutal Fire power O.O
One thing I do like about SC2 is that they balanced a lot of units such as the Thor having slow turning speed. It's amazing how SC2 has become something we all expect for in the next year.

I still think Terrans should've gotten a super-unit like the Protoss Mothership or the Zerg Queen..
Preferably that ultra-large april fool's mecha that was built by a command center and several other buildings =)

Lol, the Terra-tron. Transformer goodness, and it looked real enough too. I think the Thor is a kick-ass unit to begin with on par with the mothership/queen. Let's not forget it's ability to stay rooted and siege the enemies with its four shoulder-mounted cannons.

Lol but then Terran's would be overpowered. O.O
Which is somewhat not a bad thing if against Zerg :D
The Terra-Tron was a funny April fool's joke though, It would have been cool if Terrans did have that, But the only problem I see for having it would be the Drawbacks to Making it and usage time. When Blizzard showed the Protoss mother-ship, I think it was too overpowered, it could have been for preview of the unit or something, but if the ship itself is that powerful then I'm gonna have to huddle with my terran buddies and rush them if possible, which is not! XD
