Hey guys, so after some thinking I decided to give myself an early Christmas present and buy a T34 and some gold - there are reasons behind this choice, suffice to say that I wanted a tank that would both farm exp to convert and help me learn how to properly play the T30, which is still the tank I covet the most.
For once, I found the WoT forums helpful, since most people there understood what the T34 is good at - mid-to-long range engagements. The hull is too large and too soft for close combat and the tank itself lacks mobility, so the moment you get flanked by mediums or faster heavies you're a goner. Thus, playing 'TD style' seems the best option, especially when hull-down is available.
What I'd like to ask you is: did I get things right, at least in theory? Do you suggest a different approach? Please be kind and give me your opinion, it would be most helpful.

Do not TD it, be a somewhat second line person most of the time (but it really depends on what your team is doing). There will be times that you are charged with first line duties, so hull down, side scrape and let them shoot that beautiful mantlet, and you should be fine.

Show that turret, hide the body and just ram the shells into enemy one after another.

Storm describes how Lowe was buffed:
“So, there was the Lowe not bothering anyone. So I was browsing the other day new forum topics (it’s kinda my tradition) and I saw another †˜Lowe needs buff!’ whinetopic. I opened it and checked it out. Then I asked the balancing department: †˜Where is the scan from Doyle’s book?’, balancers sent it to me, I posted it in the topic. At first people calmed down, but they soon started asking †˜And why is the weight different from the one in the table? and the amount of shells? And the depression too?!! And why is the armor in the table 80/100?’ So I took it to the balancing department and they said †˜we balanced Lowe like 100 years ago, maybe we made a mistake’. So I asked †˜Is it difficult to bring the Lowe to the table specs? Would it affect balance a lot?’ The answer was †˜Not difficult, shouldn’t affect balance much. We just don’t know what to do with side armor.’ †˜Okay, find out about the side armor and change it in one of the patches.’ †˜For the armor, we asked Moran (SS: Chieftain, US historian), he asked Doyle and Doyle answered that the 100mm is upper part of the side.’ †˜Will it break the balance?’ †˜No’ †˜Ok, change the sides too.’ †˜Ok.’”
Finally!

Spoiler:
Finally!
The buffs in question:
-Weight will be reduced from 92,55 to 90 tons
-Depression and elevation will change from -6/+17 to -8/+38 (-5/+38 when the gun is facing back)
-Ammo capacity will increase from 40 to 80 shells
-Upper part of the side armor will increase from 80mm to 100mm
The weight reduction seem a bit inconsequential (still a superheavy tank in mobility and speed as far as I can tell), but the depression/elevation one is very promising.
...but where the heck do they store 80 shells in that thing? :U
Anyway, I probabaly explained myself badly: while I do agree that T34 needs to help pushing when it's a Tier 8 match, in Tier 9-10 matches it's a bit more difficult to survive that way - unless of course you let the tougher guys go forward and you use them as meatshields. I did that in my KV-1S a lot. :P
Of course, KV-1S had the mobility to peek-a-boom with ease from behind allies, T34 doesn't.

Lowe isn't paper lol. It is nice that they are finally buffing the thing, but it was a really good albiet slow tank IMHO.

Should see me bounce some tier 9 tanks with that turret xD
The Lowe is the epitome of German tanks: supreme accuracy.
Have had it since it was once $80 (so about 3 years ago), and when the Tiger I made my bank bend down without lube...
Teru is my nickname, clan is 5D, let's see, I'm the next oldest thing to the beta testers on the game, I researched (and tried >ω<) almost everything up to tier 5 (chinese line excluded, as well as some TD lines)
I currently have: Lowe, AMX 13 90, Hummel, M41, Lorraine 39L (if i said it right.... tier 3 french arty), ELC AMX
Up until about 3 months ago, I was hardcore German tanker, and I still am, but as you can see in the list, I like me some French tanks ^ω^
I'm on pretty regularly, my time on weekends are tied up with helping my friend climb through. But if you wanna platoon anytime on the weekdays and I'm on, please feel free to call me up
Now then, any idea when they're putting in this buff? Been awhile since they worried about my beloved Lion.

By the way, people keep claiming that Lowe prints money even for premium tank standards, is it true? 'cause I won't renew my premium account, so a moneymaker capable of maintaining my post-Tier 6 tanks would be appreciated.

All the tier 8 prems make good money, as for credit multipliers I'm not sure but the lowe, kv5, and jt88 are quite up there. The main thing with all of them is to simply make your shots count since the higher caliber rounds are still costly.

Anyway, the "make every shot count" maxim is something I've always tried to follow, especially since I tend to play tank destroyers. That said, if I'm going to drop the premium account (most possible) then I'll probabaly go for Lowe, the buff and the fact that I can safely platoon with a friend with his T32 justifies it.
Of course, a King Tiger would've been better, but since it generates much less income, yeah. :V
EDIT:

Firing squad at the end was epic.

If you can support premium account not sure why you'd drop it, there are times when I get over 100,000 credits (silver) when I reel in beautiful damage rolls, without premium account the Lowe boasts a healthy 30-60,000 credits a match

Anyway, if Lowe can get that much without a premium account (assuming we're talking about an average income, and not the one you get in those rare-pubstomps-where-you-rape-everyone), and considering the incoming buff, if I keep playing I may as well try teh German Steel.

Well, bad game gets 30 K
Decent game gets somewhere 40 k - 60k
Pubstomps get 70K +
add premium and you can double it.

STB-1?
And the pubstomps... heh, those are good times (not too rare if you snipe and clean out low health tanks)
But a bad game I consider to be 15k silver, once your above that, I call it something you can walk away from without debt (the pubstompsyou are pretty rare, and only occur if you're on a bad teams streak, or loss streak)

The upcoming tier 10 japanese medium tank. As it is on the first version of the 8.10 test server, it completely renders the fv-4202 useless. It has better rof, same depression, similar overall mobility, and most of all, it has a turret that can actually bounce.
