Xbox One Epic Fail.

Well this bullshit is finally coming to an end, Still the Xbox One is 100$ more then the PS4 so I don't think that I will buy it first. Does anyone think that this will change the sales dramatically?
It'll probably result in a boost in sales, but the damage is done already.
There's other things besides the DRM that shoo away sales though. The mandatory Kinect is one. Another is the big lack of exclusives shown at E3. Then there's the whole fiasco with the "buy a 360 if you want to play online" or "who doesn't have internet in this day and age?" which might turn people off of supporting Microsoft. Also they didn't say anything regarding the release date of anywhere outside of the US, if at all.
Either way, I never wanted to get an Xbox (because of much of Playstation's exclusives) and this isn't going to change my mind (still have to pay for Xbox Live).

Ive always been more of an Xbox fanboy and played PS3 just for exclusives, but even I would prefer a PS4 to this (provided I still did the Majority of my gaming on a console).

While the damage has been done, time heals all wounds. I'm in no way a supporter of MS (never had an Xbox, never will), but I'm sure this debacle will be forgotten eventually. Look at Sony and the PS3. And the fact MS ended this DRM policy or whatever sooner rather than later will probably help.

My thoughts exactly, which is why I'm surprised that they actually changed their policies. I figured they'd just let "cloud computing" speak for itself, even though I'm still skeptical to see what exactly it can do.

To me this is the first time that I have ever seen the fans win against a company in gaming. But I still ain't going to by the X1, because its 100 dollars more than the PS4.

Still looking it like its made out of evil and darkness.

If anything they will probably change things after people have bought a few systems. Just because they say this now doesn't mean it will be permanent. Last I need is for them to change things around and me not being able to enjoy it the way I should.

Idunno, I was much more impressed with the Xbox's exclusives over the PS4. Titanfall was the MVP of the exclusives in my book. And as for the whole thing about getting a 360 if you don't have internet. I'm just going to chalk that up to Don Mattrick becoming a complete backbirth and choosing the worst possible way to word his "solution". Larry Hyrb should probably be given more control of Microsoft's PR for the Xbox as he seems to do a much better job at it than others. Also, given that MS is choosing to support the 360 for another few years alongside the One, it actually is (was?) a valid choice for offline gaming.
If there's one potential saving grace to the One is that I'm pretty sure most of the problems that people have with it are software-based and could likely be changed at any time (such as the DRM), should Microsoft choose to do so. Removing the DRM would be a step in the right direction, but at the same time, I can sort of see what they were trying to do by implementing it in the first pace. I personally had no major complaints with the original DRM feature other than it potentially taking up my precious time (and possibly money) that I could be using to play my games. But, now that the DRM is gone, I no longer have any real reason to skip this gen of consoles and it's more or less free game for my wallet.

well the damage is done already. a lot of people really were mad at the PR guy for his arrogance and ignorance when asked simple questions like "what if my internet goes out" or "why are used games such a big deal"
The reason why PC gamers are fine with DRM is that they get huge sales for it. I could care less about not being able to give a friend my copy of Left 4 Dead when I can just gift it to them for 10 bucks. I got the whole Alan Wake franchise for less than 10 dollars on a steam sale. You don't get those kind of sales for console gaming.
Not to mention PCs are more prevelant than consoles in general. People usually have 2 or 3, maybe 4 computers in their house. This doesn't include laptops. But not everyone buys another Xbox or PS3, because usually there are only 1 or 2 tv's in the house. Also you can't upgrade console hardware easily, xbox requires you to pay for online gaming, custom modding to games on pc, etc etc.

Well, they're desperate. I've said before that if they changed their policies then they're desperate, and LOL THEY REALLY ARE.

Despite not being much of a fan of the DRM, I actually did like Microsoft's family game-sharing plan, where you can digitally lend your games to 10 family members (or friends). I honestly thought it seemed like a better system than physically lending my disc to my friends and risk the disc being damaged. There are only really a handful of people on my friends list that I'm actually close enough to practice this with, so the whole system seemed perfect for me. I tend to borrow a lot of games from my roommate that he no longer plays (and I can't afford to buy used) and I lend him a couple of games that he's interested in playing, but doesn't want to spend money on. We would've still been able to do that with the One, but digitally, rather than physically. It just seemed more convenient and would cut out a lot of travel time. Hell, I probably could've started borrowing/lending games with friends/family who live too far away to do so by physical means.
What I'm getting at is, for as much flak as the DRM was getting from the people, it actually opened up Microsoft to do a lot of neat shit as a trade-off. But alas, since the DRM has been dropped, so has the family game-sharing plan and disc-free playing. I also expect EA to bring back their online-passes since I'm pretty sure Microsoft's DRM was their sole reason for dropping it in the first place. While I'm glad for the return to simplicity, I can't help but feel that we're ultimately missing out on something because of this. I hope that Microsoft manages to salvage some of their old plans and finds a way for them to work on the One and still keep users happy.

While the XB1 may not have been the console people wanted it's a real shame that Microsoft gave in to all the raging nerds instead of standing by their product.
All that this backtracking has accomplished is to make the Xbox One into a PS4 with slightly worse hardware that won't last as long while limiting their own features to not be able to function the way they were planned.
Shame.

To the last two posts, I understand that we lost some features due to the DRM restriction, but for a console, the very reason why many people get one is to play games offline, will now require me to be online to play ANY game. I understand that you need the DRM for a few of these features, but they could have been implemented as an option, not a "deal with it or go home" attitude.
You enable the DRM feature, you get all the kicks, but if you have the thing set to off, you don't get those features. This could have been easily implemented. Instead, Microsoft, in all their glorious wisdom, thought that it would be okay to make it a forceful policy. When I say forceful, I mean they actually punish you for not doing what they want. Oh, you didn't sign in within the deadline? We'll just make sure you can't play your fucking game then. Why would they do that? Why lock out the usage of games just to enforce a feature that shouldn't be required? They are twisting our arms. Sure, a majority of us don't have to worry about the issue of that happening, bit it's the principal to make such a bold restriction.
And now, since Microsoft didn't get their way, they are essentially punishing us, by still refusing the option, and merely getting rid of these features. Again, those features were cool, but when you have such a bold restriction to enforce it, people are gonna get pissed.

Was it an epic fail? No.
Was it very different from what we expected? Yes. The Xbox is no longer meant only for gaming but for home entertainment. If you are looking for gaming, go for a PC. If you are looking for home entertainment with a little bit of gaming the Xbox One will fit your purposes nicely.

Its not an epic fail, but Japan won't even touch it. So its pretty damn close to an epic fail.
