Winter Writing Contest 2012: Poll #1

Alas: It's the time you've all been waiting for, the first poll has arrived. The 14 submissions will be broken down into two polls of 7. The top three of each poll will go on to the third and final poll. The top two of the final poll will receive the benefit of winning the Reader's Choice and Runner-up awards. These groups were randomized on random.org.

The other judges and I will meet and suggest our top picks and analyze them very carefully amongst each other. We should have a winner for the Judge's Choice and Runner-up award in that department about the time when the final poll ends, or shortly thereafter. We will also prepare a backup in case the public elect our choice. However, if the Reader's runner-up is our selection, they will still be the winner of the Judge's Choice award and the Reader's runner-up will move onto the next closest. If there is a tie...Well, there will be a tie. I'll see what I can do if that happens.

When you read each submission, if you have not already, please take a moment to stop when you finish and write the author a little note how and if you liked it or some constructive criticism they could benefit from. I know that if you are an author, you may want the same done for you. As a judge, I will withhold my comments until after the contest is over to those who request it. Happy reading and may the odds be ever in your- I mean may the most astounding pieces of literature prevail.

EDIT: Not being proud or anything, am I one of the few who actually voted other people they honestly liked and not themselves?

That depends if you enjoyed another's entry more than your own I would guess~

Sigh, not that I wanted to win but for the past three contests I've had 0 votes, am I seriously that bad?

Why wouldn't you want to win? I guess you enter it out of the idea of improving and have fun, but if you don't have the desire to win, the faith in yourself, how can you get others' vote, let alone winning?

Besides, if I am correct in assuming everyone else voted for themselves, you aren't the only one without a vote if we disregard the self vote.

I know that at least one of the votes so far on one of the contestants was given by an outside force, so either the author I speak of has yet to cast a vote or already has thus not voted for him or herself as he or she has only one vote.

Btw, Xenon, excellent picture choice~ I have to say that I really love the Narcissu series
