If anyone did, please upload it ;)

Is your system locale in japanese?
Reinstall in a different folder than "C:\Program Files\", run the game as admin. Check also your codecs (install a codec pack like k-lite or CCCP). Since you're getting a blackscreen they may be related to it.

The Higurashi and Umineko series might be good. Heard they were pretty good. I wouldn't know though, I've never played them.Higurashi and Umineko are sound novels so don't expect anything graphic unless you're actually playing with the PS2 patch (Higurashi) or PS3 patch (Umineko).
Even with the PS2 patch I don't remember Higurashi being very graphic about stuff but I already saw some screens for the Umineko PS3 patch and they look pretty good. However, the patch is still in development.
However, psychologically both of them are pretty good. Note that horror isn't the objective of Higurashi and Umineko.
As for recommendations, I don't have much experience in these types of VNs but you could try Phenomeno and Divi-Dead.
Finished Period today.
First of all, the art is very different from the usual but it has it's own charm. Personally speaking, I really like it but I can easily see someone hating it. It may take a while to some people to get used to it.
Regarding the story we have a school setting where our main character after finding a key of a observatory deals with a group of girls and events. Basically, the usual from a VN with a school setting.
However, I think that the way the story unfolds is actually pretty good. I found it to be quite romantic and cute (well, there's also drama) and since I'm such a sucker for these types of stories you can imagine my satisfaction finishing the routes one by one. The only route that surprisingly I didn't enjoy that much was Tsuzumi's. This happened probably because I didn't found her character that appealing but I can easily see some people liking her route a lot. Needless to say, I liked all the other characters. When you get into their routes you'll just like them more since you see more sides of them.
I also liked the soundtrack. I think it contributed well to the atmosphere of the game and the way it was used on some scenes (for example, music stops playing when certain things happen) just added on my immersion. There are two or three tracks that I really like a lot. I may eventually get the soundtrack just for them lol
I give Period a 8 out of 10.

VNDB by yuri and english tags
Some recommendations that I think you might like since you like the sono hana series. In other words, VNs with consensual scenes:
Katahane - has straight scenes too
Sugar's Delight - only yuri
Koihime Musou - has straight scenes too
Yin-Yang X-Change Alternative - has straight scenes too (I think there's a non consensual scene thought it's not yuri)

Read Aeka's route and couldn't bring myself to play other routes at the time. That is all =PBut you did eventually go back and play the other two... right? RIGHT?! (;_;)
Not yet. Aeka's just so... cute that I can't resist lol
When I give it one more read I'll seriously consider reading the rest of the routes.
