I am loving the parts people said they hated. The haters must have been Jaded FF fans because this is seriously awesome. If it gets any better then it already is it's getting a 10/10.
Final Fantasy 13 is doing something completely different and I fucking love it. The battle system makes so much more sense when you actually use it. There is no way that you could control all the characters and decide their attacks while playing FF13. Too much is happening too fast. If you tell Lightning her attacks and then go to Snow, Lightning will have finished her attacks before you even finish with Snow let alone the other characters. So while you're deciding wtf to do Lightning and the other characters would be sitting over there going, "WTF They're attacking me! Tell me what to do!". Your characters would be dying left and right.
Also, as for the lack of towns (Warning there might be a spoiler up ahead.). Everyone is terrified of the characters in the game because they're l'Cie. They would be reported and captured the moment they went into a town or a highly populated area. It would make less sense for their to be a town where everyone is like, "Oh hey enemies of the state. Come over here and get goods from my shop". I'm not done with the game yet, but they're still on Cacoon and that would make no sense for their to be a town that just welcomed them in.
All in all I fucking love this battle system. Final Fantasy would get a 8/10 right now for me, but if the story gives me a wtf moment or makes me cry that is going to 10/10.

Wow, when I first saw those ball/cube monsters I was like, "Not too creative", but man one of those things just blew up and fucked Sazh and I couldn't help but lol. Not gonna let it get me again though.
Fuck yeah! In your face Odin!
It took about 7 tries to figure out the best combo of paradigms, but it's definitely there and man was that a good feeling.
Edit: Whoops messed up on the explanation for one of Lightning's Paradigums. Fixed now.

Just beat the third boss.
Edit: Also, I hate the bird enemies. They're so annoying because once they see you more than likely you will have to fight them.

Been playing for about 11 hours and I'm very happy I bought this game. I'll admit the other thread almost turned me off, but I couldn't take it seriously and turns out it was exaggerated. Also, just making sure, you all know there is an option to set the default battle option to abilities instead of auto, right?I wish there was a way to get rid of it entirely from the battle menu because when the action is fast t paced sometimes I mess up and hit auto-battle and I have to go back to abilities which wastes so much time.

I heard someone (not here) bitch about how all you need to do is push one button in battles, and that worried me. Then it was clear they just mash the auto button. There is the full ability to chose your own moves and their order each 'turn', and it's easy to change it so abilities is selected instead of auto. It just frustrates me when people complain about a completely optional feature. I'm pretty active during battles choosing my own abilities, switching targets, launching my attacks early, switching up paradigms, looking for efficient strategies, and I'm having quite a lot of fun.I agree with this and I use the same methods. I can't believe that guy was bitching about an optional feature. It's basically the game's easy mode as the AI does all the work for you. And later in the game it doesn't even do it well. Try auto-battle with some of the enemies and I know that you will be dieing a lot if you don't take advantage of the abilities and technique tabs to concentrate attacks. The only thing the auto-battle did in the beginning when we didn't have all the other options was select melee attacks over and over. Sure that's what you could do for an enemy, but when you have 5-15 of those frog things they're going to rape you if you use that and concentrate on one without attacks that do multidamage and element attacks.

Almost forgot, I love the way the characters interact. Walk up to someone and they talk to you. Your party members walk around and talk about what's going on instead just always following you. They speak to each other by name during battles. I love it.The entire game has such detail down to the smallest things. From the interactions to things that are shiny have a 1 to 1 reflection of anything that moves over or on it. I love this game so much.
Just woke up and I am going to start playing again. I gotta catch up to you guys.
I am way behind you now since I was playing MW2 with some friends. I can't look at that because i don't wanna spoil myself. I will catch up tomorrow.
Been playing for Six and a half hours now according to the game and I am half way through with chapter 3. I don't know if that's fast, slow or normal. I am doing and going everywhere I can so it must be a little slow.
Fuck you giant thing! Not killing me a third time. I made sure to watch Lightning's health closely. Must conserve potions.
Edit: Once again auto battle tab messed me up and got me killed a second time. I wanted items not auto battle!

*wants a remove auto battle thing*I want that gone so bad. It messes me up and wastes time.
Also yeah Lightning is her name (I keep adding the 'e' need to stop doing that.) Well, not really. That's her military name. Her actual first name hasn't been mentioned yet. No one knows it expect for Sara.
Edit: First death of the game just now.

Also Lighting can throw some punchesLightening: "Nice gun." *Crazy Matrix shit kung fu moves* Don't mess with Lightening.
Also, I am tearing through those crystariums wicked quick. There must be a lot of paths for those things if they're going this fast.
You can deal so much more damage if you actually select the moves you do and chain them up right. The enemies are already starting to get tougher.
I like that you can go into the Paradigms and change it to suit each characters crystarium. Like I have commando on Lightening and Snow for each Paradigm with Vanille being the medic. It isn't letting me touch Hope or Sazh though.
I lol'd when Snow said that. I still don't like how Hope is a little coward about all this, but I am starting to feel sorry for him.
Spoiler:
You and I are going at the same speed it seems. The Paradigms tutorial is right after that fireworks cut scene.
Edit: I am liking the gameplay so far so more aspects to it will make it even better I'm sure. I was wondering when and how we were going to summon.
