I don't actually think that's the case any more, you can start up in offline mode, it just won't sync your latest saves. but if you know you won't have internet for a while, you can put it in offline mode beforehand and it'll work fine. With One, if you couldn't afford to pay for internet or lost your connection, you would have been stuck with a useless $500 hunk of plastic.

Steam has an offline mode, the One wouldn't have functioned without that connection, at all. Steam also has sales, and competition on the same platform from GOG, Gamefly, Gamersgate, GMG...you really can't compare them.

I won't forgive Microsoft for attempting the shaft their userbase any more than I suddenly love EA because they shelved online passes. They're still douchebags.

Summary of where shit is at right now:

- Games are tied to an account but anyone on that console can play (Phil Harrison genuinely said you have their 'permission' to use the unlock code once, and this requires an internet connection)
- You can play a game at a friend's house if you log into your account, but
- You will have to pay full or almost full price to 'unlock' a recent used game
- You can trade games within their closed market system, but no word on whether you will get actual money, or Microsoft Points, or whether the devs will get a cut (and prices will be artificially steep)
- It won't play 360 games or transfer your XBLA games (and there's no indication that they'll let you stream them)
- The console will need a daily internet connection
- The console will not run without Kinect attached
- They only showed us one example of actual gameplay footage (Ghosts) which told us very little
- It can simulate dogs very accurately
- It can sense your heartbeat and longs to silence it
- It has TV and DVR features but only if you run a DVR through it
- 15 exclusives including 8 new IPs, one of which is Quantum Break (but these could be download titles or by bad studios)

There won't be another one because they managed to botch a fucking texture pack for the existing games. He's probably rightly worried that a new title wouldn't be up to the high standard of the second one, as you should be.

And he asked fans to reiterate just how hard they want a new game, which is a nice PR move, but makes sense when the HD collection has sold pretty badly. Also gives him some time to fuck about doing Kojima things.
