Except CCCP is a *filter*, not codec pack. It contains FFDShow (audio & video decoding), VSFilter (subtitle renderer), Haaali's splitter (for decoding ogm, mkv, etc.) and Media Player Classic Homecinema. None of these components are what one would call a "codec".

Sure is, if they want to artifically inflate their reputation. I mean, come on! What looks better in the papers then some cops/agents bagging a dirty pedophile? Sure, it's going to ruin the life of guy/girl who's only been looking at drawings, but that's a small price to pay compared to the fame and glory of the police.

After some careful consideration, I believe a re-boot is in order as the setting was depicted in a way to laid back manner with not enough paranoia and Orwellian repression.

The characters have also become somewhat powerful - and this was entirely my fault. I could throw stronger stuff at you guys, but this wouldn't keep with the spirit of the setting and you'd end up rules lawyering one another for finding a way to survive/challenge you guys.

The characters will be 1st year teenagers with little to them beside their name. Rules for chargen follows:
300 BP total, 200 BP may be spent on stats, you may have one stat at 1 or two stats at 2. NO gear, implants, spells, powers, formulae. The story will be about the characters coming into their own.

I've come to this conclusion after realizing that problems stemmed from the fact that players had little feel for the world around them and I either had to go into constant (boring) exposition or railroad you guys into sensible actions (BORING!!!)... since you lacked proper context for your choices.

If I thew a full fledged runner team into the world of SCHOOL these problems would persist and either I'd hold your hand, or I'd throw some nasty shit your way... which wouldn't be fair, since *veterans* runners (which 3rd years ARE) wouldn't make the kind of mistakes that gets an overt response without them knowing about it in advance.

Hence why I decided that the team would have to be low powered, so you would have a natural reason not to be careful and get a feel for things before starting anything noticeable (by the powers that be).

Seems like the Cascading Sheet Style (CSS) file is not getting properly loaded. This can be casued by a corrupted CSS file in your browser cache. Hitting Ctrl-F5 will solve it (as this forces the browser to reload the whole page and use nothing from cache) sometimes.

If FAKKU has references to its CSS in its cookies, you'll have to flush them (the cookies) and see if it helps.

This is wrong, for several reasons.

The firmware is a deeper level program than your driver. The firmware directly interfaces with the hardware of the driver and that's why firmware updates can grant the hardware new capabilities.

A firmware is software in the EPROM. Erasable, Writable, Read-Only-Memory - in practice this chip works like a DVD/CD-R, that is you have to write its contents in one go, and there is cycle limit on how many times this can be done. When you update the firmware you need to run special, manufacturer provided utilities to write the new program to the chip - this is also called flashing. If you screw up flashing you can end up "bricking" your hardware. (Called so, since that's the only purpose the hardware will be good for). Restoring a bricked piece of equipment can be a tricky ordeal... and sometimes impossible.

A driver by comparison is a program that is part of the operating system (usually as a bunch of .dll files) that gets loaded into the main memory when needed. What a driver does is interface between the OS and the hardware - however unlike a firmware, nowadays it doesn't directly control the hardware. Instead it gives special instructions from an API (Application Programming Interface) that tends to be hardware type specific. (sound-card, video-card, CD/DVD drive, mice, etc.)

Ie. CD/DVD drives use ATAPI/ASPI interface. It's up to the firmware to handle API instructions and translate them to hardware specific stuff.

BTW this also means, that since all CD/DVD drives can be operated using the same instruction set, having just a "ASPI" driver would enable the OS to operate it, so you don't need a manufacturer provided driver for basic operation.

However such basic "API drivers" can't always exploit the full capability of hardware. This is very common for videocards. The reason why you can use a videocard without any driver in the first place (albeit poorly) is because all of them are VESA compliant and the VESA API allows windows/linux/OSX to give it basic instructions.... however it won't be enough to play any games using 3D graphics.

Sound-cards (or chipsets) don't tend to work et all without their proprietary driver, as unlike optical drives or video-cards their operation is not a must have for basic system use.

Manufacturers might release *both* driver and firmware updates. Ie. for motherboards you often get various versions of chipset drivers that fix problems and allow greater software compatibility. They also release firmware updates that often bring compatibility with new processors.

You young kids and your sillies. Just get it somewhere else, then put it on a USB stick/CD. Back in the day, before PnP (Plug & Play) you had to use jumpers to setup IRQs, load & configure drivers by hand (which is what the config.sys file was for on DOS).

Nowadays, when your mom, your gran and even her dog has Internet it's pretty easy to just use another machine and download the necessary drivers there.

Using coaxial cable is an option, but it's bandwidth is low and the tech for it (network cards, etc.) are harder to come by nowadays. Yes, there are technologies to handle this problem, but none of them are consumer grade.

It is possible to lay down twisted pair cables that long (STP - shielded TP - exist for a reason), however all in all using Ethernet over this distance is iffy at best. Just as with coaxial there are techs to handle this problem, but once again they're not common, consumer grade solutions.

There's fiber optic which *is* the tech for this is you gotta have a hard line, I have no experience dealing with this, so you'll have to do more research if you go with this. Keep in mind, this might set you back several hundred bucks.

Then there's WiFI which may be the most simple and cheap solution, just use directional antennas on your network card(s), that's out to boost signal receipt significantly.

IMHO the best 2 solutions are:

a) Using WiFI. Pros: cheap, can reliably handle the distance. You can set it up however you want. Cons: bad weather may hamper your network access. *You* have to set it up and maintain it on your own.
b) Using the telephone/TV line and setting it up as a second host of your ISP. Pros: it's not your problem, the ISP/Telco company will handle this. Con: you won't have a LAN, your two sites will only be able to access each other through the Internet so file/resource sharing is more problematic.

I admit it's unlikely they'd change their mind. However that's not the point. It's about *listening* to what they have to stay as it's the least to gain their respect. No, they likely won't agree with you but if you're willing to listen to their reasons without bitching & backtalk than you have the basis to request the same. You likely won't agree, but you'd at least have a basis to come to some compromise.

You've got their situation backwards. It's not them supporting their grandparents but the other way around... and "putting someone in an elderly home" because you have a conflict of views gives me an impression of appalling callousness.

The best thing he could do would be to talk with her grandma and try to find out *why* she's so mental about this. Does she believe this is immoral and that's it, or does it stem from something more? She could be afraid your sister might get pregnant and be a social outcast for being a single mother (...as her boyfriend may not marry her). Maybe your sister going on the pill could alleviate her fears, even if it won't make her happy with the situation.

@user_name_pending If you're concerned about pain & complications then ask a cosmetician and they'll explain everything to you... and it's not like it's not their *job* and do it *every day*. On the other hand, unlike shaving it's not recommended to try waxing on your own as it takes practice to properly pull the wax off. Unless done with sufficient force and smoothly enough it will hurt and you'll have to do several pulls instead a single one.

Guy here. Before you drag the whole issue into a courtroom you could try and settle this peacefully. Granted she's the one who started the cheating, but since you've been with her sister and kept it secret I don't see how you'd have the moral high ground if it came to court.

...and even if she's not faithful to you, has she done *anything* neglectful toward your kids? Much as it hurts now, she's still the mother of your children and should have a chance to be part of their life.

Granted I *don't* know the details of your situation and I *don't* know her, but before you go to full blown legal war over your children the least you could do would be to *consider* a peaceful solution to all of this.

You don't want to live with her, and probably neither does she want to be with you either... however this doesn't meant that you can't come to an understanding.

I know what I'm writing is probably hurtful, but you should hear at least a single voice of reason that advocates being mature and responsible (toward everyone involved) rather than going off on either a revenge scenario ("hurting the bitch") or playing false ("keeping up the pretense").

Finally you'll also have to sort out your own feelings of hurt and betrayal. Did her cheating hurt you because if betrayed your trust or because you felt like you "owned" her? Was her lying to you constrained to this singular issue or other things as well? Don't write whatever you came to, just take the time so you know it yourself, so you can think with a clear head.

PS.: What I write is possible since that's what my father did before marrying my mother. He already had two daughters at that time and even after his divorce they were very much part of our life, so thanks to his mature approach to the whole issue I have three sisters instead one.

Finally someone with enough confidence in their sexuality that they don't get weirded out by the mere thought of being on the receiving end.
