I'll de-rep you as soon as my rep counter regenerates. Obvious trolling is obvious despite my good intention. This is an example where a de-rep is acceptable, and I can tell that you didn't read through this thread or did and elected to ignore it entirely.

For a joke, it was wildly successful, which only makes matters worse for the reputation system. Waar's last post sums up my opinion very nicely.

@Das: I know. I'm just trying to be optimistic here, like the little train who could. Think of me as Gambler, but his alter ego where I still want community cooperation but isn't afraid of dishing out the stark truth when needed. My hope is that users who view this thread come away with the notion that rep was and is supposed to mean something and to use it wisely. It's also the reason why I made this thread in IB rather than in Serious Discussion (which should go in there) or Random because of the sad, sad fact that a majority of FAKKU! user action happens in IB.

Repping uploaders is fine, because they deserve it. Repping others just to rep others or repping just because one feels like it is, in my eyes, a plain no-no and an abuse of the rep system.

@skydager: Sorry, my sharp response was due to a lack of sleep and irritableness/disdain at the current situation. Your post just happened to tick me off, and under normal circumstances I'd take it much more gracefully.

@Tsurayu: I think you still care for your rep to some degree. I still do, and it's why I'm making this topic. Anyone who gets de-repped for no apparent reason gets mad, even me with a high rep count. But regardless, my point was to emphasize the original intent behind the rep system and hopefully persuade my fellow userbase of what should be acceptable and what isn't.
Another point to your new argument is that rep in the old days was not as abused as it is now, and golly do I long for those days, and I'm not even a true oldfag, since I'm an 08' 2nd generation user. Rep used to mean something, with it's small abuses and rep scuffles, back in the day. Now it seems that anyone can throw rep around like Michael Jordan and get away with it.

@skydager: I think you've missed my point, but I know it wasn't done with bad intentions. I'll overlook the +rep. My point is to not gain rep at all.

Waar, your words are soothing balm to my ears. Unfortunately, you're just as right as well, and I can only hope that as an influential Elder I can convince members of FAKKU! to do what is right and help distinguish what's right from wrong from plain stupid.

But if I was ever labeled as a troll, I'd like to ask every person labeling me as such to get an eye doctor's appointment and take their heads out of their asses.

Like college tuitions? Honestly, it seems completely arbitrary to me as the more expensive colleges to me always talk back on cutting costs and budgets but end up never decreasing the tuition fare. And I think most tuition fees are way too damn expensive for the quality and quantity of material and knowledge on is receiving, not including room&board and other miscallaneous fees. And tuition never covers the cost of textbooks, which can go as astronomically high as $200+ for a textbook. Even community colleges give you more bang for buck for their cheap rates, which is the reason why community colleges exist besides for students who aren't smart enough to get into a better college.

@tkhnoman: I totally agree with you - it is an ethic, the rep system. Don't be afraid of expressing your views, especially on a hot-button topic like rep, and I'm glad you use rep with care, as it should have been and should be.

Tsurayu, the more you speak, the more your words are beginning to sound hypocritical, no offense.

I am not forcing anything on anyone. I'm simply making an example of what I think is appropriate in terms of the reputation system. You're welcome to think of it any way you want, but don't be mistaken that I'm "forcing" anything on anyone. People are free to ignore my thread, and people are free to make note of it. I've been on this forum for over a year and a half, and I believe what I posted is what the original intent of the reputation system from what I've observed and what the administrative staff have mentioned before. If anyone disagrees with me, by all means post here and we can have a good debate on what rep actually is and what it really is used for.

To be honest, responses like ^ shouldn't even qualify as a proper response in this thread, even if this is in IB. If you don't know anything about the above user, don't bother posting, seriously. Sorry for using you as an example, Melancholy, but it's because of such superficial responses in a thread that I expect more from that prompted me to do this.

Back on topic, Melancholy, I know that you have your own art thread, and your pictures aren't too bad. You're also Filipino out of the many we have here at FAKKU!.

@voltampirs: I picked out Macross Plus because in I think the AMV "Alternate Dimension" or "Memory Flash 2007" it featured scenes from Macross Plus (as I found out in the credits) that really appealed to me.

Btw, the two AMVs aforementioned have the AMV creator Nostromo VX as one of its AMV contributors. His AMV work is the best I've ever seen.

I did say that, take rep with a grain of salt. But seriously, people are pushing the limits to what is acceptable practice and what it isn't lately, and lollollol12's latest thread broke the camel's hump. This is just but one of the more obvious (and ridiculous) methods of procuring rep. I'm not suggesting a way to fix rep, only that this is an example of dumb rep behavior. Fixing rep to me either falls on keeping it as it is (changing it anymore would surely destroy its function) or completely getting rid of it.

Hopefully this thread demonstrates the idiocy of rep whoring and will deter said behavior. The "Math for Reps" thread also pissed me off as it seemed to me like another sugar-coated attempt for rep whoring and abuse.

Back on topic, I've never been in a blackout that lasted more than a few hours, but I have seen a portion of town go out for power for a full night. Then again, I also have surge protectors and backup generators just to be safe. I've got two of these units because my father is paranoid:



And they're pretty fucking handy as I've noticed incidences of power surges followed by a clicking noise from my Tripp-lite unit - and of course everything else is hanky panky, business as usual.
