Both those laptops are good, but you don't get dedicated graphics. However, you will still be able to play the game you mentioned (that RPG thing) well, but games like WoW will really struggle. I can't give you advice really, gaming on laptops can't really be done with $500.
But here's an interesting deal on a 'netbook-price' laptop. Though what you picked are certainly better, this is $150 cheaper. However, you can only pick it up at a Fry's dealer, which there are none in my area.

7200RPM hard drives are overrated. 7200RPM hard drives get a 5-15% increase in performance (boot and loading times mostly) than 5400RPM and you get a 5% increase in power consumtion. So if your computer boots in 50 seconds, at most, it will boot in 42.5 seconds, and if your battery life is 3 hours, it will reduce to 2 hours, 51 minutes.
A 7200RPM hard drive is certainly a perk but don't rule out other computers because they have a 5400RPM hard drive.

Looks like everyone is right, you simply can't put a graphics card in a Macbook, and here is some reasoning why:
In that case, you probably have a regular MacBook, where it doesn't have a 9400m, and it is impossible to even try to put it in there.

hi,
just wondering whether the latest Penryn MBP could have it's GPU upgraded - to something like an 8800MGTX maybe?
Thanks

No. They are not cards: the chips is surface mounted to the logic board. The only way to upgrade is to buy a new laptop.

Anyway, I remember reading some John Keats poetry in AP Language & Comp, which as focused around British Literature. I don't remember anything about him, all I can remember poetry-wise from that class was some poetry from (Ode to the West Wind) Percy Shelly who was the husband of Mary Shelly, author of Frankenstein.

Flip out the keys, wash them in a bucket with some dish-washing detergent, rinse them off, slap some ball-bearing grease on them, pop them back in, et voilà .Takes five minutes, costs about a dollar for the ball bearing grease (if you don't have dish-washing detergent in your household, you have bigger problems than just a noisy keyboard).
You can use a small screwdriver or some thin device you can use as a lever to help prop the keys out.
But be careful, I had a friend who tried to do this (with the exact 1st gen G15), and although he seemingly pulled the keys out right and put them in after letting them dry, something went horribly wrong and the keyboard became completely useless (I saw the result, even pulled the entire keyboard apart and could not fix the problem). I think it may have been that a tiny bit of water, even after drying, might have slipped in and caused a short within the board. Of course he didn't leave the keys out to dry overnight, he just dried them with a paper towel.
If you love your keyboard so much (I assume you do, the G15 is a wonderful keyboard, I am a proud owner of a 2nd gen), you might consider doing this very carefully.
(to gibbous) Is standard ball bearing grease conductive? I assume you have done this yourself so it should be safe, right?
How hot does it really get? Do you really know how hot it gets?
Use SpeedFan, it will tell you how hot the CPU is actually running at from a sensor that is placed within the chip itself. Keep the program running and monitor the temperature at different times. When the CPU usage is up, expect temperature to increase dramatically.
Also here's another test which should cause your computer to restart within minutes if you think it is a heating problem. Monitor your temps with SpeedFan, and use LinX, which will cause 100% CPU load and will cause more heat than any other application can offer. Monitor the temps, and wait for it to restart. Terminate the application if you see temperatures that go over 100 degrees Celsius, because that will indicate a major cooling problem. If it restarts after it gets really hot, or somewhat hot, it is a cooling related issue.
What I really think is that it isn't overheating, but instead, a software problem. I have a desktop which would complete cut out and restart (like someone pressed the restart button on a Nintendo 64), but not because it was hot or the power supply was bad, but there was a major ERROR in Windows which caused it (something to do with minidump, but I never really solved it)
Make sure Windows is updated, and make sure you run appropriate spyware/adware/anti virus, as well as use CCleaner to clean the useless, and perhaps shutdown-causing junk off your computer. It might be a real problem within Windows, and if then, maybe reinstalling Windows might be the only solution.

So if I download a .rar file, it will seed as long as I don't delete the .rar; but if I download a .zip file I will need to copy it and expand the copy.Does that sound right?
I don't believe that is quite right.
All files act the same, whether it is a .rar, a .zip, or a .7z. You will seed a .rar file exacltly like you will seed a .zip file. Just download it, and make sure it remains unaltered, and that will cause you to seed after the download.
Altering, or moving the file or directory will cause an error to be seen in the torrent application, because it will not be able to find the file you are seeding.
You are always uploading, despite whether you have completely downloaded it or not. Do not move or edit the file, or it will fail on verification.
Access the zip files from a program like WinRAR or 7zip. They don't remove the files from the .zip, instead they extract (copy) them.
Both represent two extremes. One is chaos, and the other is order. One is a Brave New World, the other is 1984. Pleasure or oppression, they will both lead to an end which is not ideal. The best option would to be both, but that isn't an answer.
Therefore I will choose true desire. I'd rather strive to be happy than attempt to maintain order.

If you run into any problems with eth0 vanishing and another eth# appears, run the following command and reboot:
sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
Get VMware (you might have to pay for it) and run the image. That might be enough to run your server. At least it is a good place to start. Familiarize yourself with Ubuntu, because you will need to use something like it to run the real server.

I think it is a matter of perspective. People, like me personally, haven't been privelaged to be living with a sibling of the opposite sex. Therefore, I am predisposed to believe from hentai that incest might actually be an interesting thing.

Both, my laptop is small so gaming on it isn't worthwhile and my desktop has the power to play some semi-old games thanks to someone borrowing my 9800GTX+ and trading it for a x1900XT.
Seen videos like that before, don't need to comment on them. I also remember reading a comment that said "whoever videotaped this is a horrible person". That isn't necessarily true, we don't know what his intentions were. He may have video taped it to provide it to paramedics or police, and it is a very important piece of evidence that proves that he got run over by a vehicle. Understandably, I believe the person who had uploaded the video to the web is a far worse person than the person who taped it in the first place. It is not bad to videotape the accident, but it is far worse to upload it to the web and make a mockery of the person's death.
My father once rescued a person in a similar situation from a car wreck. One day he was driving down the highway, and he spotted an accident. He didn't see anyone on scene, so being the good Samaritan he was, he went to go check to see if everything was alright. He could not have arrived at a more urgent time. The guy was trapped in the vehicle, unconscious, with both of his legs dismembered from the inward crumpling of the vehicle. Being a former ambulance driver, he knew the paramedic skills required to keep the man alive. By using his own shirt to wrap the guy's legs, he effectively stopped the bleeding long enough for emergency crews to arrive. Whenever I am in his office, I see that award of good citizenship with his other framed achievements.
The problem with the guy in the video was that they had no means of removing him from the underneath the wheels, you could see they tried to cover-up as much as they could, but they had no means of pulling the guy out so they could completely wrap him and stop the bleeding. Accidents happen, it's a part of life. Don't let things like this get to you.

I can't recall ever having one with a 2d character, but 3d I have. I guess the only issue is that I never finish it, either the dream ends or I just get up and leave. Happened with various people I know and didn't know, even had one with my mother.... I woke up and felt horrible after that one. The Oedipus Complex is definitely a sick part of the human mind...
Recently I was repartitioning my laptop that contained all my school work. It said it would take about 2 hours. After an hour, I decided to close the lid, but then I realized... oh shit!! it went on standby, and the hard drive repartitioning stopped half way... Suffice to say, when I tried to boot it up, I got a black screen with a blinking CAPS LOCK light, and a very loud beep.
Luckily I managed to recover the data on the laptop by using a LIVECD of Ubuntu, which repaired what was damaged and installed a new OS over it. All I can say.... whew.

I don't personally own one, but my roommate and one of my friends has it. The cold aluminum feel is so much better than plastic. Too bad it is really expensive, really not worth it for the parts they put in it.
However, you don't need to buy a Mac to run OS X, if you have ever heard of Hackintosh, you can just buy Snow Leopard, and install it on a PC laptop.

Suprisingly, OS X Snow Leopard is a lot cheaper than Windows. It's $20

Depends what you want to do.
I don't think you should change schools, because you are in an ivy league school, and what is waiting outside of an ivy league school? there might be a community you would better fit in, but then again you don't want to get carried away in the party scene of a large school (or maybe you do, that is fine)
However, explore different classes that you might like. I for myself, am mostly undecided in my major, but I right now I hope to get an MD when I get out of undergraduate school. Don't be tunnel visioned, keep your options open, be open to different things and classes. At my school, they say its normal to change your major 4-5 times during your time at the university. Explore some classes like Hebrew, engineering classes, history of music, Greek mythology.... anything that sounds interesting. One class I decided to take this term was History 195: Witches, Alchemy, & the Golem, which was a really interesting writing course which we studied about the roots of each of the myths. Explore, and be optimistic. You will find something you never knew you liked.
I felt similar to the way you feel now. I felt filled with a certain melancholy. I began to believe that things at the University were not what I originally thought they would be. I was disillusioned like you were, but one day, I remembered how psyched I was to go to the university of my dreams, how I could make so many new friends, and get a feel for college life. Remember your aspirations that you had prior to college, and rekindle the fire of possibilities. Don't give up on your pre-college ideas of success and happiness.

If you want a computer that is going to be up to date and not junk in 2 weeks like a few of the suggestions above you cant go wrong with this-http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4660174&CatId=333
NZXT Tempest Black ATX Mid Tower Case
Asus P6T LGA 1366 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 Processor BX80601920
(2 Sets) OCZ Gold Tri Channel 6GB PC12800 DDR3-1600MHz Memory (aka 12 gigs total)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB Hard Drive
Ultra LSP650 650-Watt Power Supply
Then just go buy a good video card and you will have a beast of a machine that will last you a long time
This summer I am going to buy that kit and throw in my NVIDIA 8800 GTX in it, that card still has a year or two on it. Overclock is extremely easy with that motherboard also, just make sure you have enough cooling
Although that may be a good suggestion from you but if you read his above posts, you would have seen this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185093&Tpk=sythe%20mugen%202
The sythe is one of the biggest coolers I HAVE EVER SEEN (the picture doesnt do it justice)!! My brother got one for his i7 rig, and (with the same motherboard I have above) overclocked his i7 from 2.6GHz to 4.1GHz, completely stable with minimal voltage.
TOTAL: $878 + ~$30
Just by reducing the 12GB of RAM you really don't need, switching out parts, you get a cheaper build that performs just as well.
I have a 9800GTX+, a little stronger than the 8800GTX. My brother has been using it in his i7 build lately because he fucked up his HD4890. Sadly, even he can't max out some of the newer games he has been playing, because the 9800GTX+ isn't strong enough to max them out. Yes, the 8800GTX will probably last a year and then you will find yourself running new games on low - medium low settings. Save yourself the extra $200, so later you can purchase a next-gen card when the time comes.
It's interesting hearing all things people want. I am getting my hands on a 32GB Zune HD when I get home for the holidays (I'll tell ya how it is if you ever want to get one, but the iPod touch is always a safe bet). However, what I really want is a girlfriend (I have been single for far too long =_=). Maybe a few pairs of pants too, preferably khaki's.
