Well I loved the original, but the price asked seems a little excessive for people who already bought it and who only gets 100 new pages ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Completely understandable. Whenever a "remaster" or "ultimate edition" of any form of media is released, there will be previous owners who are happy with their old version, and that's perfectly fine. However, I should note that this book is more than the same old content plus 100 pages.

Outside of the brand new material, much of what was present in the original release has been touched up in some way—both by the author and by us. An example of this is the character bio pages, where originally they only had some measurements, but now feature full descriptions where the author explains their inspiration for the character. We've also updated the script and lettering throughout the book, and below are a few panels that very clearly exemplifies this. Generally speaking, it was brought up to our modern standards to read like a 2022 release, and not a reprint of an eight year old title.

There are rarely any official statements on things like this. Typically an artist will take a break after releasing a book, or they might shift focus on some other project that requires their full attention for the foreseeable future.

I'll keep this brief and to the point:

Note: there's some stories here that are missing from subscription and the magazine page, but are accessible via book pages. I've gotten conflicting responses from different FAKKU staff in the past about whether or not this is deliberate, so for completeness I keep including them in these lists.

If the book came out first, we don't do them when going back to an older magazine issue.

Bavel artbooks are typically done if we're sent the data. That was not the case for earlier issues, so don't expect those to be released.

I've fixed the Dascomi reprints in Bavel so they now display both magazines properly.

The Aoha chapters were doujinshi releases, and we could not publish those. I've added a disclaimer to the magazine.

Every other chapter listed is in the works.

As for the illustrations, I've passed that list along internally so we can look into those further.

I found this announcement from the release list. So this is an Anime Expo special arrangement.

Not sure what made you think that but just to clarify: the licensing of this title has nothing to do with AX, and it's not just a one-off thing. Nothing I can reveal at this moment, but I can assure you that more works from this author and publisher are absolutely up for consideration in the future.

Are the physical books just 1 chapter each (ie 34 pages), or is it a compilation of chapters in a single volume?

Typically a compilation would have its own entry on the site, so based on the listings and the price, I would assume it's individual volumes. That said, with this being a third-party product, I can only reply on behalf of the platform, and you'd have to reach out the publisher for a definitive answer.

Hang on what? I didn't know any of the doujin had physical options.

Outside of the FAKKU-published box sets (which all have physical options, if they're in stock), the following doujinshi do as well.

Quick question, since the definitive version of FR14.5 just came out with a new 4koma set of pages to supplement the Orca x Manami story, will those also be translated in the next release? Many thanks as always.

Yes! We just received the updated files, so our version will include the roughly 14 additional pages that were added in this year's re-release.

I'm not sure how we'd go about it in a way that makes sense. Pretty much the entire point of doing box sets is that it's a physical product, and as you pointed out, the only difference between that and buying the content individually is the illustration on the sleeve and how it shows up in your library. Also, if the content existed on the site before the box set, previous owners already get the upgraded version for free, which further lessens the need for a digital set.

It should be fairly easy to simply add a digital version and make it the same price as buying everything separately, but I can't imaging most users would be okay with paying $20+ for an illustration if that's all they get. Ultimately, a single page is practically valueless in our pricing model, so there's no way for us to set a reasonable figure for any potential "upgrade path" from individual to complete set.

The fact an author has titles published through us or other publishers is mostly a non-factor. The main thing that decides what titles we license is: do we think this book will be well-received by the audience at large? A proven track record via previous books, popularity in the subscription service, large fan followings, etc. all contribute to what titles we pick up. So yes, the larger picture is much more important here, and we don't disregard a title simply because of X.

We're currently experiencing issues with uploads and are actively working on a solution. We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime.

Update 4PM: new uploads are now readable.
Update 9th: we're still experiencing issues with downloadable content, impacting this game and this doujin (which is still readable).
Update 12th: downloads should now be working again.

We're adjusting the price point of some of our older doujinshi releases (pre 2022) by the end of the month. This only impacts FAKKU published content that was localized by us. Third party publishers using the FAKKU platform for distribution set their own prices, so we're only updating our own catalog.

When we first started releasing doujinshi six years ago, we decided on a one-size-fits-all kind of price model of $5.95 for every release. In reality, it fits most but certainly not all releases. Majority of doujinshi fall into a natural sweet spot of 20-40 pages (fun fact: the average FAKKU release is 34.5 pages long), but some don't even break into the 20s while others are pushing triple digit page counts. This model also doesn't take into account the content itself—an obvious example of this being full-color releases having a higher value than their black and white counterparts.

In order to present a more fair price model for all parties, we introduced a new system with the start of 2022 that prices content on a scale. While length is a starting point, each release is evaluated based on various factors and has the final number adjusted. Ultimately, this is an effort to make the amount you pay better reflect the value you get from the product. We believe it accomplishes this, so now we want to expand this system to our back catalog.

Again, the original price was chosen based on what we perceived to be the "average doujin," and sure enough, only a few releases will have their prices adjusted, most of which by a very slight amount. Below you'll find a complete list of all the impacted items followed by their new prices after the update.

These new prices will come into effect on September 30, 2022. Please note that the change will happen at some point during the workday (US West Coast), so the 29th is the last day you're guaranteed to find the content at the previous price, and all listings will be updated by October 1st.

Except, it doesn’t. It went straight to Physical + digital.

Are you trying to buy the box set itself? As stated, that is only available as a physical edition. If you go to the gallery of the individual release you want to purchase (not the box set as a whole), it will give you the choice between the digital and physical edition.

Forum Image: https://t.fakku.net/images/upload/asanagi-djn-sample.jpg

I've also expanded the explanation in the linked forum post:
With the individual releases already on the site, there's no digital version for this set. However, buying the physical box (directly from the site) unlocks the digital chapters to your account, and those will be updated with the improvements made for the box release—for new and existing owners. The updated chapters can also be purchased individually for users only interested in the digital edition; make sure you visit the gallery for the desired release and it will give you the option between digital (individual) and physical (complete box set).

What if you bought it at a con, how can you get the digital chapters, since you can’t buy those separately?

You should be able to. All the newer box sets work this way where you can buy the physical edition, and if you buy it on the site, it'll automatically unlock all the digital content to your account. If you only want the digital edition or select volumes of the set, those can be bought individually like any other release.

From the Terms, Guidelines and Usage:
you agree to not use the Service to: Copy, redistribute, reproduce, “ripping”, transferring, or making available to the public any part of the Service or the Content which is not expressly permitted

Outside of FAKKU, there are many other parties that use the site for distribution, resulting in hundreds of lincensors. Without he permission from all rights-holders, or if it's limited to publicly available/promotional material, I would advice against rehosting licensed content in any form.

Parodies typically exist in a legal grey zone, which is why most publishers in general avoid them. Our focus for the moment is on original content.

The two terms are used interchangeably in common vernacular, but there is an argument to change it to the proper umbrella term. As for "why," there's not much more to it than that's what it was called way back when it was first created. I've thought about changing it in the past, and it might very well happen eventually.

Is it licensing problems on why 4 and 5 will be excluded? Or will they be released at a later date?

1-3 alone make this one of our bigger box sets to date, so it simply comes down to page count. I think we'll have more information to share at a later date, but for now I'll say there's a reason this is called "Shindo L Box ➀."

This is why I hate limited run things like this, it just emboldens scalpers.

They're not really limited items anymore, as we regularly do new print runs of our box sets nowadays. Currently only two of the sets are out of stock on our store. There will always be resellers trying to turn a profit, but rest assure the Shindo L box will be made available here later this year.

We sold an early batch at Anime Expo, and once the second shipment arrives, you will be able to buy it through us for the regular price of $80.

Just to ask, how do you know what you order is a digital eBook or paperback? Example: lets say I want Gentleman's Maid Sophie 4 (randomly saw this on the popular list) which is being sold for 5.65$ on paperback. When I pull up to the page, there is no indication whether I am buying a eBook or paperback.

Products with a paperback gives you the option to select between the digital and paperback edition (example). The item you mentioned does not have a paperback edition, and clicking the Buy Now/Add to Cart buttons simply puts the digital edition into your cart, which will indicate that it's a digital item under the product title.
YQII FAKKU Translator
All FAKKU published titles are available both physically and digitally. For other publisher selling through our site, that is often not the case, but you can check by going to any product and see if it offers you the Paperback option when you click the "Buy Now" button.

Many answers to the most common questions regarding our books can be found in the FAQ, but I'm happy to answer anything beyond that.
