wonder how they are gonna screw up the ending this time roundWho knows, it might be good this time, third times the charm.
And when you think about the other endings weren't bad were they? They did what an ending is suppose to do, leave an impression on you, those endings are unforgettable, that's all that should matter.

unforgettable for making no sense and leaving you with a feeling of "wtf was that?".

I always loved End of Eva, if simply because my friends and I talked about it for a while after to figure out what it meant. Still got some gaps though. Though I'm sure that's due to not knowing what it was referring to at parts as opposed to just not making sense. The end for the series originally though...yeah that just pretty much was dumb.

Ok, it's been awhile but I think I might still remember. I hated the series ending a real lot. The movie where all the crazy shit happened was awesome and I liked that one a lot. I think the series ending left me so disappointed that I decided I didn't like the entire series. I'll have to go re watch it sometime. I did watch the first Rebuild movie though, and I enjoyed it. We'll see how the others are.

In case nobody here has realized it yet, the Evangelion ending and the End of Evangelion ending go hand-in-hand. Now I better get out of here before my raving Eva fanboy side goes berserk.

This retroactively makes everything so much more fucked up."

NGE was reminiscent of Rahxephon and Fafner to day the least, except that I understood Fafner. What I hate these producers doing is mixing mecha with religion and human psychology and philosophy because it creates a mess of a show. I enjoyed NGE as it was... and I didn't bother to think any further than a making a few predictions and guesses. Other than that, I have to agree with everyone else that the show left a "wtf" impression at the end.

@The Jesus - You tell me a person who's actually understood NGE, then I'll say that such quasi-mecha shows are complex. For the average viewer, NGE proabably blew their minds away. It certainly almost blew mine away. Now, a better example would be several of the Gundam series. The earliest Gundam series and Gundam 00 were complex, but it didn't have to deal with religion or anything of that sort, but rather racial issues and politics, which are complex. NGE has religious symbology and connotations all over that it isn't easy to understand the significance of such symbols. Sure, NGE stepped away from the normal mecha norm, but seriously, NGE could have done without the mecha. It would have made the series more understandable.

It would have made the series more understandable. One definition of complex is: "so complicated or intricate as to be hard to understand or deal with." The other definitions aren't very far off from that, but I decided to use that one in order to directly challenge what you said. The mecha aren't what make Evangelion so difficult to understand, it is the intricacies of how psychology and philosophy are interwoven with Judeo-Christian influences. There's a shitload of references to everything from religion to otaku subculture. They could have made due without the mecha, but it would have taken away from the overall effect that Anno was aiming for.
I understood NGE quite well actually. I missed some things the first time around, but that's to be expected with anything that has so many layers.

its another one of those japanese creations with an incoherent answer to anything and everything. it kinda leaves it up to the imagination... that is if you have an imagination run on 400 horsepower with endless possibilites. has anyone come to a conclusion abotu the ending yet or what?

As I said before, the last two episodes and the movie go together. Episodes 25 and 26 show what Shinji is thinking and doing while in the middle of Third Impact. It explains the reason why Shinji decided to live as an individual despite the pain it will cause him and others.

i think the basic point everyone whos acting like they know what it meant are trying to get across is that you need to form your own opinion of what it meant; I don't understand much of it and i don't feel compelled to watch it a second time so I leave it at that, maybe in the future ill watch it over but im not sure.
