[Anime] Hyouka Discussion Thread

I have to say this mystery is interesting. I actually can't wait for the next episode to come out. The fact that the writer is obeying Knox's Ten Commandments, the 20 Rules and the use of Chandler's Law makes it all the more interesting. If the writer actually DID use those rules, then the killer is seen right from the start, but I'm a bit confused over the new footage for the teaser.

KyoAni putting their amateur-film-within-anime skills to use again. Oreki continuing to be my favorite character of the season. He keeps doing his damnedest to be as lazy as possible. His annoyed faces are getting more funny-looking. I wonder how annoyed he will be at the "detectives".

What's worse for Oreki than Chitanda? Drunk Chitanda (just look at Oreki's face). And people trying to be confrontational. Thankfully for Oreki, Chitanda has a curiosity overload, so no more trouble for him on that end.

On another note, I'm kind of disappointed. I mean, we could have had a very nice meta-mystery thing going on with inconsistencies between the script and filming. However, it seems that the script was very precise, which threw that out of the window. I'm guessing the club president is going to be the motivator for Oreki to "complete" the mystery.

I enjoyed it, but not as much as I could have. My cynical side was ripping this thing apart.

1. The assistant director theory conflicts with the script. Seriously, you are the fucking asst. director and you don't read the script?

2. The props manager never saw the actual footage. Why on earth make a theory of what could have been if you never saw the finished product? It's so silly to come up with this large, elaborate theory and never review your own work on the matter.

3. Publicity Rep. This girl needs to get off the pixie sticks. She turned this horror/mystery into a full blown horror. She is the lesser of three prime fools, but damn, I want to smack her for just being so perky. Also on a side note, where is neckerchief/bow? That part bothered me the whole episode.

4. This may be a cultural thing, but why even separate the three when presenting their theories? Couldn't they just all sit in a room and take turns, while keeping their mouth shut?

On a positive note, Chitanda getting drunk off chocolate was well worth the watch.

darn, I would be pissed if they got disappointed to Oreki just because missed details or got wrong on deducing... I mean they always treat him as the detective every time there is a case... or are they (is she) looking forward to a detective conan-ish kind of locked room murdere/case?

The rope was mentioned in of the theories. Now assuming we have seen that episode and the one before it, we can assume that the rope had to play a role in the movie. The reason for the rope to be in the moive is because it must follow rules of mystery/detective stories: Never insert elements you never intended to use.

So what was the rope for? I don't know, and it just induces a new mystery to what was assumed a shut case. What exactly was the point of it? The rope was never used in the actuall movie, yet the writer requested it. She asked for a rope that would not break under heavy weight. A good assumption is that it would be used to hang a person in some way.

Yet another instance of a character trying his best (for once) to solve a mystery only to miss things. Haba sure is platinum mad though. Chitanda is definitely not satisfied with that outcome, and Satoshi apparently didn't write down every detail.

Totally forgot about the rope. Just when everything appeared to be wrapped up too. A twist in the twist so to speak.

If we're following the rules of mystery, does that mean we can exclude the possibilty that there were holes in the floor of the 2nd floor or the floor in the 1st floor?

What really bothers me is what's behind the bookshelf, they never take a look - they only cover the front of the shelf.

I've only watched a few minutes of episode 11, and already everyone is being an asshole towards Oreki. Why is the fucking database drawing conclusions!?
