BLACK★ROCK SHOOTER ANIME

To be honest, I wasn't all that impressed.
I for one didn't like the nonsensical storytelling. The cuts between action scenes and slice of life were very awkward. Almost impossible to follow for people with no concept of the story. The art and music were nice but that's about the only compliment I can give this OVA, but seriously, the framerate is not impressive in many of the action scenes. If there's no sequel, this is pretty lacking.
Even with the eyecandy, I can't possibly give this more than 6/10. I just didn't enjoy it very much. It also needs some 6s to balance out all the 9s and 10s this anime is receiving from BRS fanboys on MAL. xD
BTW Mazui's subs are out.

yup, it's quite it doesn't have sense and there's no reason for the girls to suddenly start and kill each other.
In the end I skipped the OVA just to find out WHY? MAybe I accidentally skipped it. but I know one fact for sure
This anime is overhyped

Finished watching the subbed version, and like many other said, I am disappointed, although I did expect something like this to happen when an entire season was shortened into 2-and-a-half OVA.
Another gem that lost the shine due to its length ("ahem"Angel"ahem")
But still, this was supposed to be a pilot; there may be more to come.
And of course this is overhyped. How often do you see an amateur song with amateur character and illustration become anime (although they are pro now after Bakemonogatari)? Along with borderline-loli (based on Miku, to boost) with kick-ass looking weapon? I think it's enough to hype up even semi-otakus.
I think there was only one occasion this happened to an amateur Vocaloid song: Melt's PV that was animated by Gonzo; the song was made by same people as BRS.

You know, they could have gone the Hellsing path and just done two orgasmic OVA's per year. But nooooooo. They had to churn it up and condense it into this shit.

Eh, what do you guys expect? That they throw around large sums of money in a series which has no guarantee of success? They're currently testing the waters for an anime series and/or acquiring more resources for said planned series.
And honestly, those who think Black Rock Shooter is all about Vocaloids are not doing BRS justice.

Ex: MAkoto Shinkai who works alone can make some great scenarios for his anime
Even though they're "testing waters" this is just not right.

Actually, this means you hyped it for yourself and didn't meet the expectations you had in mind for this. I went in with no expectations and I enjoyed it a lot.
And seriously, as a point of starting off, I find this just good. Perhaps there was not that much action going on at this point, but who knows if we see this in a second OVA / TV series. So you could see this as some sort of 'Episode 00 / Introduction' in one way or another.

I am pleased. Animation was good as it should be. Thought that the Black Rock Shooter would have been played a lot more; they didn't even play it in the credits. What's up this that. One piece of the music was awkwardly introduced. Those two other BRS world characters, they didn't use them.
I wished there was more.

woah, lol.
I'm honestly one of the skeptics of the show. A figure and drawing suddenly have a an anime? This one of those animes that I see as a "trend anime" that only lives on overhyped fanbase.
I'm now laughing at this bad overhyped anime

I'd say it was slightly more than decent, but it have potential to turn out great.
Artwork and music was superb, they should have used the BRS song more often, but overall it was great. Animation was a bit, well, sloppy with framerates but that didn't matter all that much since it still flowed quite well. Story was kinda weak but also acceptable for a pilot-episode.
And just pointing that out to people, it was nothing more than a pilot, and on top of that a pilot episode from a story who's creator is not much more than an amateur, and animated by a studio that has never before done a solo-project. Ofc they won't take the risk of making it a series that flops.
Personally I hope that there is more to come, I'm very intrigued.

I watched it again and dropped it to a 5/10. The action cutscenes are supposed to occur chronologically after the end of the slice-of-life scenes, so I watched the thing again in chronological order. It really showed just how choppy this thing was. What what's up with showing Yuu and not using her?

Well... yes. Sure, it didn't had any plot to begin with but you also can't deny there could be some potential here. Characters look pretty cool, and thinking up a half-decent plot surely isn't impossible either. You're giving me this impression as if it is doomed to fail, which it isn't.
And I really wouldn't call this OVA 'bad', just lacking the right amount of action for some people, although it was still good enough for an introductory OVA, if it was. But hey, I'll lay my hands off of the opinions of others, think what you want to think.

Just watched the OVA last night, and I must say that it was different than I thought it was going to be, but in a good way.
First, BRS had very good music and visuals, and I can't wait to hear the soundtrack. The visuals were especially well done during the fight sequences, as well as the landscapes.
Secondly, unlike some people, I actually enjoyed the slice of life elements that were integrated into the BRS atmosphere. I was a bit surprised that their was less action than I anticipated, but it did not stop me from enjoying the OVA. I enjoyed the development of Yomi and Mato's relationship, and their friendship having it's ups-and-downs, and how it paralleled what was going on in the BRS universe. Then, when the two worlds collided, it truly became a story of friendship, and one of my favorite moments was
I'm really hoping that this OVA is just the beginning, and that we will either get a fleshed-out series, or 5 or so more OVAs.

The animation and fight scenes are great, so it just needs a direction or story and its all good to go.

Oh god Anomaro-P what have you done? The ending will either be a tearjerker or make a lot of people rage. Especially considering the inspiration for the plot.
Am I the only one who got this reference?
I'd just like to point something out because a lot of people seem to have a misconception about this: Though BRS does have some similarities to Hatsune Miku, she is not actually based off of her.
A little history on the subject: Ryo had to get permission from the company in order to use Black Rock Shooter in his song. No, Black Rock Shooter was not derived from the song, instead the song was derived from it (before it was decided that there would even be a pilot episode) after Ryo had done a bit of web browsing and come across the parent company's website. The plot was later partially inspired by the animation Anomaro-P had created for the song. No doubt due to the amount of popularity it had gained.
Now, I don't see why you guys are taking jabs at the "storyline". It's a full season show crammed into an OVA, so obviously not a lot is going to make sense. After all, they didn't have the time needed to explain everything completely but; I'm sure there will be other media released in order to do so (No official word on that, just a hunch.)
The way BRS shows the two sides of the storyline side-by-side makes the conclusion all the more effective, and by splitting the anime into two halves and showing them next to each other, BRS presents its story in a way that is not only refreshing, but more intriguing to follow as we try to decipher what is taking place.
They did an amazing job for what it was. Sure, it was a little over-hyped but I'm still going to give it a high rating because of the well orchestrated music (and silence), the eye candy and of course because (Although it may have taken me two watches to fully understand.), the storyline was well put together.
Leaving it at a solid 7.5 (leaning towards an 8) but no higher than that. As I said, for what it was, they did an excellent job.

Quite a few people I know gave it fairly high ratings, and no, they're not BRS fanboys (2 out of the 3 don't even like Vocaloid produced music). You should really watch it yourself and form your own opinion instead of following those of others. The OVA seems to be one of those that you either like quite a bit, or not much at all.
