There's a lot of thread already, this just shows that the some people are really unsatisfy by this ban. Man I really hope for some miracle to happen here.
Those Right-Winged politician are just to hard headed, i pity the current and new mangaka their future are dependent on the sales of their manga. Heck something is just to wrong here. Well, every politician are hard-headed, they should just pull the resources to strengthen their country not splitting it apart or make it worse.
What will become of japan and the manga industry which have thrive this long.

This ordinance does not ban anything. Hardcore pornographic manga will still be legal as they have always been, because they already comply with the proposed 18+ restrictions.
However, there are many manga titles targeted at working adults that will be affected by the proposed law. Off the top of my head, I imagine titles such as Kiss x Sis, Gantz, Berserk and various yuri/yaoi titles will be faced with a dilemma.

It's not as much about banning, but about certain titles now having to have an 18+ rating.
Which makes it a pain in the ass to distribute, not to mention advertise.
Plus, it's only in Tokyo Metropolitan Area. You know, Tokyo? Rest of the country is pretty fine.
It does come off as very restrictive, bit it's definitely not an end of Managa industry.

But yeah, it's definitely not the end. The law is too vague and it seems very hard ton control every production with objectivity.

When I remember seeing this topic on some other place for the first time, I though right away of..
We are fucked.
But with more contextual analysis of the said law, it seems pretty loop holed and lacking in context.

Next thing they're gonna do is ban sex without reproduction because some dumb governor can't get laid. And I'll bet the whole premise will be:"it's morally wrong".

What the news reports: Law passes that gives government the power to censor the airing of Anime with rape, forced sexual situations, or sexually taboo themes within the Tokyo area. The law Specifically applies to shows aimed at children.
What internet hears:
NO MORE ANIME EVER AGAIN FOREVER. WATCHING POKEMON IS NOW GROUNDS FOR A LIFE SENTENCE, NO MORE LATE NIGHT ANIME SHOWS, AND YOU HAVE TO GET TO BED ON TIME AND BRUSH YOUR TEETH. LUCKY STAR IS NOW CONSIDERED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.
This made me laugh so hard. ;p I am very confused. It is like a load of hardcore Christians pushing for a ban against erotic manga/anime and evil metal music as it harms children, "Oh please will someone think of the children!" I am not going to take this bill seriously and I can't see people voting for it, giving anime/manga entertainment is a big part of the industry and the economy.

Agree with this, at the end i guess lot of people on the internet is overreacting and nothing will happen, maybe less ecchi we will watch in anime and manga, but i think will be good this gets "tagged" only for adults as i think its done now.
And after investigate a little bit more in other sources and not sankaku which is not reliable, i got the conclusion that its not the end...just some people is getting in panic for this, but nothing to worry about this law.
How did i get into this conclusion?
Here,(btw i didnt wrote this, its just what i read and basically whats this law its about according to source i read).
Spoiler:
Sorry if you dont understand somethings, sometimes my english sucks xD.
Basically this is the law which its causing panic around otaku world, of course according of what i investigate and read in other source.

and quotes from the article Peto posted. and I'll highlight the important keywords.
The objective of this law its to [/b]restrict this violence and sex contents in anime/manga characters that looks like under age (kids)[/b]. Basically we met this law as the "anti-loli law."
Labeling those anime/manga only to the adult market.
which this law says its that from july 2011, a lot of anime/manga that shows explicit scenes of rape, sex with characters that looks like under age (kids), and extreme violence (gore), only could be sell to 18+ people.
it's just a new rules to regulate the public who can read/watch this (technically as its done around the world with porn and movies)

It's not going to effect the anime/manga industry directly, it's going to effect the main market.
In a positive way of thinking, We wil lget more anime/manga that is more well thought, more interesting and less ero-oriented
Many have already complained that the latter part of that is growing too rapidly.

Many have already complained that the latter part of that is growing too rapidly.I'm one of those people complaining. Seriously, animes nowadays are all about moeblob shit and fanservice trash. When I see slice of life, I expected a light and heartwarming episode, but all I can see are kawaii girls doing something boring and/or ordinary while making a cute face. Oh hey, a dojikko tripped and fell! Her crying face is so moe~! And we also get a panty flash! She spilled the drink all over her clothes and got cream on her face, ecchi~
I bet if she's a 3D girl you'd call her an idiot for tripping over nothing, you dipshits.
The sad part is these kinds of anime sell the most. Why bother making a quality anime if you can draw some T&A and get insane profits from selling merchandise to fat greasy otakus? Tools.

My thoughts exactly. But I can see why this new trend is used more in almost every anime and that's cause it sells. That aside I also feel anime fans want nothing more than panty flashes and bouncing big boobs. All I see is "X girl is so cute/hot/moe" and that's it. Remember that matrix boobies thing in HotD? To me the worse culprit is Kiss x Sis. A complete waste of animation.
