Final Fantasy 8 Interpretation
1
So I'm sitting in the library on campus (where I should be doing work) but instead I'm reading an interpretation of Final Fantasy 8. I figured I'd share it here on the front page for anyone else interested in it. There is a lot of hate for Final Fantasy 8, but underneath all that is a damn good game with a good story. Though I'll admit it took me a while to come to that conclusion.

Holy crap, thats intense stuff, I always loved FF8 and I've played it multiple times, but damn it... this explains alot xD

I've always loved FF8 because its story was pretty awesome and I could relate to Squall's character a lot. Thanks for the read Jacob!
After reading this I'm a believer too. Everything that happened after disc 1 is just way too convenient and all the mysteries about Squall's life are revealed one after another. I always thought the ending was just a giant dream sequence but to what end I never figured out. Anyways, the whole "what happens after you die" thing fascinates me so I'd prefer it this way. In the end its whatever floats your boat.
I wonder if the old execs of Squaresoft who produced the game were disappointed when millions of people completely missed the point or if thats how it was intended.

So... Basically...
The theory suggests that the game pulled what Evangelion pulled in episodes 25 and 26.

True but the creators of the game intended to make it as a puzzle that players had to piece together to unlock the secrets to the meaning of the end of the game, but the thing is, I read the whole plot line from the link and some sides of the story doesn't add up, for example at the very end of the game, with the shooting star scene, Squall is still alive, but when was that scene taken? Was it before the whole event or after? Thats what baffles me the most, because it was a dream or was it a flash back.

Is just a free interpretation of the main story to each player, the creators never going to tell you the truth then this is other old theory?

I kinda agree with the writer thou, I felt that FF8 is the worst of all FF. And there are some part that I don't really like.

Good read. I never thought there was any other story inside FF8 than the original one you play. Crap now I have to play FF8 all over again.. Good thing I still have my working PSOne on hand. :D
Maybe it's about time I went back to retro gaming. I was getting tired of all these high end games coming out lately anyway.

Seifer knows that Squall is no great captain from Balamb Garden. He’s no more privy to top secret information than are the other three. If Edea wanted to know more about SeeD, she should be interrogating Quistis, who’s been a SeeD for three years and who has been teaching SeeDs for one year. Squall has been a SeeD for all of two weeks. Why go through all the effort of killing him just to bring him to full health when he’s obviously a threat to her?
That right there made me remember. Its not Edea its Ultimecia. She doesn't know crap about SeeD. If she did she would obviously interrogate quitis. And it seems like Seifer doesn't have a memory or something. Everyone knows what SeeD are that goes to Balamb Garden. It must have gotten leaked that he was the leader of the group and they decided that he must have some info. But even though the orphanage seems to convenient it makes sense. Only Irvine remembered everyone since he didn't user the GFs for that long. Also if you look close that big ice spear is no where near Squalls heart. Also heres a theory. What if Edea took control for a bit and heal Squall.
And the the love triangle. Even though she had some interest in Seifer. I felt something between Riona and Squall. Not casual flirting. There was something there. Also most of the stuff explained as werid can be understood by understanding this.
Its Final Fantasy. Most of the stuff in FF never make any sense. Like all the Cids. Cloud and Sephiroths connection.
Also the part when he can't remember Riona theres the possibilty of Utimcemia fucking with his mind or the GFs
Its an interesting theory but Imo the theory doesn't add up at places and theres no real evidence

I haven't paid full attention to this, since I never actually finished the game. I borrowed the game from my friend back in middle school, but her 4th disk skipped, at the very beginning. So I didn't even get game time.
Then a couple years later my cousin lets me borrow his game, and wouldn't you know it! The 4th disk froze too before any game time happened! So I've been doomed of being unable to ever finish ;p
But what I got from it: "We think disk 2+ is a dream"

I would recommend getting either an emulator or if you have a ps3 buy it on psn

Interesting read.. And don't worry, you're not alone.. I'm reading this when I have a test tomorrow morning with not a single word studied.. I'm so screwed..

You realize the main basis behind that theory is that FF8's storyline becomes such a horribly train wreck that this was the only way he could think of to explain it, right? =)

Oh wow, looks quite an interesting theory... But since i played the game more than 10 years ago, it's not really clear in my memory :(
Anyway, FF8 was definitely a good rpg (please don't say FF9 was better lol), i enjoyed it a lot, and almost cried at some parts (and i usually never cry)

I read this whole thing. It is intriguing but I honestly think 8 was just a story with a number of plot holes. Trying to force a plot onto it that kind of makes sense is admirable but until somebody from the FFXIII team comes out and says that this is how it is, I am still going to believe it was a potentially good story with holes in it and forced plot twists.
