Mmmmh interresting, I always loved FF VIII so it's interesting to see people think theories about it^^, and i really think its a cool theory even though I don't believe in it, it was fun reading^^
(the only thing which kind of made me feel too WTF about FFVIII was the thing about the orphanage... but ... i mean in a lot of other games/animes and so on there are the common "ohmygodweknoweachothersincechildhood" moments so it didn't really worry me toooo much^^)

This one one of my theories for a while now... not so well detailed but I had about the same thoughts. Squall had to be dead after that, no way in hell you take that kind of wound and live, let alone live with jacket intact as if nothing happened. And even if he did survive >.> I doubt anyone would have replaced a prisoners leather jacket with fluffeh collar. :D

that is my all time fav final fantasy it was a challenge to beat the story was good and its summaning systeam rocked one of the best the end boss was harder to beat than all of the other games end bosses

Not such a far-fetched theory. The game was pretty interesting to say the least, but the interpretation like that makes want to revisit it anew. Thanks for the interesting link.

I haven't played FF8 since I was like 14, and back than i never stopped to analyze the game but now that i read this it all makes so much sense. This also makes me want to play the game again and see what other connections I can make now that I've spent time taking Psychology classes.

Well, it has been a very nice article. After reading it, I think the same way the auhor does. Howevere, I have to admit that when I played this game great game I would never thought that after Squall's dead all were going to be a dream, but I think it make sense and explains some nonsense events during the game.

nice theory, unfortunately i love Squall to much to believe he's dead, lol, and if he was dead how does he end up in the Kingdom Hearts world eh? i don't think Squall dreamed up the events of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.

Hmm... Final Fantasy... Never played any of them. Now I'm thinking I should consider it. (I don't have any Playstations. I've been a Nintendo man all my life.)

I wonder why there's so much hate aroud FF8... maybe because it was sort of a letdown after VII? Who knows. I actually liked it, but nothing can get close to FFX. Best story, ever.

Honestly, the only reason people have to come up with explanations like this is because the FF8 is so convoluted and doesn't explain anything... I think if someone else's explanation is brilliant and makes you really think then THEY are the good 1s, not necessarily the game...

I used to tote FFVIII as one of the best games in the FF series, next to FFIV and FFIII/FFVI... until I read this site. Very engaging, but it pointed out a lot of plot holes and stupid stuff that I didn't notice when I played it my first and second times. Now I look on it as extremely stupid and convoluted. Rofl. Long and far, FF8 has always been my favorite..because I played it with my GF...anyway, yes, I've always thought it was strange how Squall didn't die.

That's also pretty creative.

I really prefer the happy ending/nature of the actual game, but the interpretation is sound. I guess it's kinda like fanfiction, you don't have to like it, but you have to acknowledge it's quality.

But another theory, though way to convenient, could be that ultimecia's existence warps the reality from the point where squall got stabbed by the ice spike and dies. Because squall can't dream about area's he's never been too, but I can't come up with a good enough explanation as that guy.
What I'm basically saying about my theory is the following.
Magic plus time travel equals things going to get fucked up.
