Everyone has their good traits and bad traits. It's more important to find someone who loves you for who you are and accepts every part of you, whether you perceive it good or bad. And that you do the same.

Like let's get this part out of the way first. Being socially awkward and being a social idiot are two different things. Socially awkward is someone who acts weird or abnormal because the people around them makes them feel weird or nervous. I use to socially awkward but not anymore. An social idiot is someone who may act the same way as socially awkward person but he does it because he thinks that normal and doesn't know much about real social interaction. An social idiot will say the wrong thing at the wrong time and when others get mad or laugh at him. And he is wondering why that was bad or why that was funny when he thought that was normal. Did you watch 'Curb your enthusiasm?' The main character, they guy who created Seinfield, would be considered to be an social. Does this explanation help?

No, I've never watched either of those shows. I think the Japanese term for this is "KY", which means someone who can't read the air around them very well and doesn't know that they aren't being appropriate for the situation. (I give full credit to Nichijou for introducing me to this concept.)

If you have trouble reading the atmosphere of a social interaction, it can't really be helped. The only thing you can do is try to stay perceptive to the things that are going on around you.

As far as eye contact, as I said, there is a thin line of what's appropriate and what isn't. It is respectful to look at someone when speaking to them, but that doesn't mean to stare at them in the eyes the entire conversation, because that will make them uncomfortable. My point is that there is no exact science and you pretty much just have to go by your own feel of what's appropriate.
