Sure thing. I just briefly skimmed over SMJ's daki auctions, but didn't see any. I'll still keep an eye out though.

I couldn't wait to get this cover. I saw a couple sell on YJA for 25-30K Yen right after C81, but couldn't bring myself to pay that much for one cover when I kept thinking that I could buy two new covers for the same price. I wanted to wait until either more went up for bidding at a lower price, or it went up for sale outside of C81 (not on an auction site). Luckily my patience paid off because for a while there it was like waiting hand and foot on pins and needles. :)

Normally is a pretty rare sight to see the price goes down. At most cases, based on research and observations, the same dakimakura will be placed at an even higher price while waiting for some easy bait to hook it which eventually leads to commanding a higher price tag.

Anime Expo has a poor selection of dakimakuras. I've been going since 2003. If anything, they are mainly sold by MangaGamer. They'll have about 2-3 different ones. They did have an adult's only section 3 years ago where it was all covered and they had an entrance way to go in. They checked IDs. They had maybe 7 or so during that time, but it seems less and less each year.

The only other ones I see are by random shops mainly selling 1-2 and it is pretty rare. They do have a lot of those pre-stuffed smaller ones though. Then if lucky, you'll have other random things like Aksys Games auctioning 2 of the Record of Agarest War covers promoting the game.

If you live in socal, there's also the AM2 convention that is free (if you just want to go to the exhibition hall) 2 weeks before AX. I'm going to be checking that one out too.

But dakimakuras are really a niche market. Back when they had more selection, they were unable to sell them. That's probably why they have less selection now. The prices ranged from $80-100. A year I bought one, they had a couple covers priced at $50, but dropped it to $35 the next day to get rid of them. It even came w/ a neat mini pillow.

But we can only hope in a few years, it will get more popular. Just like it took a while for figures to get more popular. Although it doesn't look as likely due to even higher cost than figures, and the fact that you can't really display them without people thinking weird things about you lol.

Come to think of it, I have noticed a few shops hanging dakis, though at the time I wasn't interested, but the ones being on displayed weren't that amazing anyway. And since you mention that MangaGamer tend to have em, I might actually take a look at the booth. Before, I just glanced at the booth and walked away, lol. Just curious though, was last year THAT bad on how much dakimakuras they were selling?

Reminds me that the owner of an anime goods shop had trouble selling the dakimakura he had. He offered a discount to me since I'm kind of a regular, but I wasn't much of a fan of Madoka (haven't even seen the show yet). I wonder if he has sold it by now.

Well, that's just a guess based on how B&W Store normally does things. The cover isn't quite available for preorder yet, but I imagine it will be within the next couple of days, and they usually give about a month to preorder. Maybe you'll get lucky and it won't go up for a week. ^^

Would be nice to win the lottery or something, though. I could just imagine how many covers I could buy with the lottery jackpot the other day. I could swim in a sea of them. :3

How would I go about ordering it anyways? Send Yokatta an email with a link to it or something similar? With what you told me about not having to pay for a short while with SMJ, that intrigues me into using them instead.

Nah, it's a B&W Store cover; they ship internationally. You'll be able to see it on their order page once it goes up. So unless you want to pay extra, you unfortunately don't get the delay that SMJ offers. :p

Well, you should at least have til late May or later to get money together for this one, since it likely won't be up for web-order til some time after the event on May 6th. There is also a small chance that it would not be ever put up for web order and you'd have to get it via auctions from the event, but Clochette have consistently put their covers up on web order for the past few years so it's unlikely they'd stop now...
