That's a tough one. The general rule of thumb is that if the seller isn't located in Japan, don't buy from them. They also don't have a picture of their copy of the product, just a generic image they took from the internet, so that also goes against them.

It's honestly impossible to tell one way or the other. However, as this is a magazine with a dakimakura, I'd say it has a greater chance of being legit than if it were just a stanadard two sided dakimakura cover. But I can't say one way or the other (I don't think any of us ever use ebay, tbh.)

Being full of bootlegs, I understand, but I think there's a couple of needles in that haystack.

But if it turns out it's not... That would suck...

If you're only interested in the dakimakura and not the magazine itself, I'd get it at http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m95328684 for 1500 yen buyout. Even with proxy fees that will work out vastly cheaper for you than that ebay auction.

Yeah, that would definitely be the way to go then. The magazine is usually pretty cool, but it's just a collection of chapters from random ecchi manga and tons of anime related ads. I don't know if that issue came with anything else, but the magazine just adds more to shipping cost than is really necessary.

When I first got into dakimakura collecting, I purchased every single Dengeki special issue, and started buying a few other magazines as well (Red Ichigo was my favorite in terms of overall value.) But I personally don't anymore, since the magazines take up a lot of space and while the goodies can be pretty cool, they really aren't my thing. As for other sites you could pick it up at, I'd recommend checking all the major retailers; they usually sell out pretty fast, but sometimes they'll have a magazine that released a few months ago in stock (and maybe even marked down.) Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.



Nope, that particular option is a buyout. You can tell by the shopping cart auction next to it; an auction will have the hammer, I think, but buyout is the shopping cart.

Though looking at it again, the auction willowywicca linked is from Festival No. 20, whereas the one you linked is No. 12. I'm assuming they're different covers, but I've been out of the loop for awhile.

How come magazine covers are so cheap in comparison to like the two sided?

One sided, mass produced, lesser quality material (and possibly printing.) Even if there were a lot of production costs involved, they'd probably be done as a loss leader to a ton of copies of the magazine, and more copies sold equals higher advertising revenue.

Also magazine ones have defects fairly often (where the stitching was sown together incorrectly).
Having a look for the correct momoyo festival cover I get:

So you could try your luck bidding the 5k (or a little more). 8k buyout probably is a bit cheaper than that ebay auction still, though it'd be close with the high shipping charges on a heavy festival comic issue.

Yeah, the shipping costs for the ebay auction are high, but I find that when using SMJ, auctions under the 10k range are usually the ones with the highest proportional added cost. My last auction under 10k was a 6k set of posts and it ended up costing me $130 after SMJ got it to their US office. Granted it was fairly long, so the shipping was a bit higher.

I have to say g fest comic covers would the worst especially if they come with the comic. Those things are huge. Fest mags are not thst bad though.

I'm chiming in a little late, but if you want both the book and the cover, this is just a little over the standard price. This looks like a very legit auction and there really isn't any reason for it to be a fake. Covers are sold with G's all of the time. In fact, I have the similar one that Willow' posted and I love it. Of course something like this isn't going to be printed on the best material, but if it is a cover that you like/want, don't let that stop you.

Like you've seen, there are a fair amount of auctions for the covers alone, and after fees, they shouldn't cost you more than $50-70.

Oh, and I don't think that one that is sitting around 5+K is totally new. The cover may be, but the book...I don't think so.
