Melee preferences

melee combat has been with us throughout time, and over time we have developed certain weapons to aid us whenever this happens. the most weapon of choice would be the sword, but not all wielders fancy the sword... some prefer heavy weapons such as the mace and warhammers, while others would pick the long spears, and there have been others who are agile enough to use a knife. heres the big thing: if you were to choose what is there, what will be your preference?
SWORD (standard length)
-the sword is the most versatile melee weapon created. it is designed to slice an opponenent or an object in half. the problem with the sword is that it is less effective to attackers climbing up the spiralling stairs heading to the right, narrow halls and in very close quarters fighting. it also requires care so that the blade stays sharp.
KNIFE (held)
-a compact blade that was used in asassinations and necessities, the knife is considered to be the most subtle piece of blade ever devised because it could be well hidden if you carry it and very effective when in very close quartersand in the hands of a very agile person. the main drawback of the the knife is you have to get very close to strike the target.
MACE
-also called the battleclub, the mace is a heavy weapon that when it strikes an opponent, it would either knock him out or pierce his armor. the main drawback of the mace is that it requires a strong person to wield and because of its heaviness, the user is given great striking power but lesser mobility to move it.
WARHAMMER
-same as the mace, but all the weight is focused upon the hammerhead whereas when struck to a soft part of the body, say the head, it is capable of crushing it. plus when the opponent is struck at the body, the hammer's heavy head will force him down and leave injuries such as broken ribs. the drawback is similar to the mace; it also requires the user to have strength to use it and unlike the mace, the warhammer's weight is at the head and thus it is sometimes used against the head or mounted troops
SPEAR (held)
- a long pole with a sharp edged tip, the spear is very effective on the field against mounted soldiers, forming hedgehog formations and as a lance substitute. in its own it gives the user great range in melee, but compensates it by his inability to defend against very close quarters. its fighting range is when used indoors, it is less effective at narrow rooms and limited spaces
well thats that...

I'll go with the knife, since it's good for close or long range. But weapon of choice would be twin bladed tonfa's (Yes i know there not real)

Damn we have some GAR users here ...
Might sound half the man you guys are but the only ones I'm familiar with are a beer bottle, a chair (and it's leg during round two) and a key chain.
All proved mighty darn effective BTW.

Uhh... I prefer a scythe, but maybe its impractical...a scythe in its own way is good vs. targets not closer than 1 car length.. but i gotta ask, what if someone was REALLY close to you and REALLY far from the blade?

On melee weapons, I liked the heavy ones like warhammer and mace because of the required skill to use it to par with sword, but it had anti-armor/shield advantage though might be weak to unarmored fighters as they can just get behind you with ease and wound you up first. But maybe with tackling, you can compensate for its close range weakness but will require a person to be much stronger to balance.
I already knew some people who collects real melee weapons in our country, where do'yall buyin them? I would like to get claws for novelty but I might get tempted to use it. If I'd really be using a melee weapon, I'll practice staff and knife as I could grab them from trespassing in households.

Well do you mean what’s my Fav or what would I use to kill someone?
For Fav I would pick Tonfa's I'm good with them and there the coolest when it comes to kicking someone’s ass.
But if I was in a fight I would just pick up a sword while sure I'm not as good with them but chances are if he doesn’t have a gun he’s got a knife so I'll just fucking chop him up.
Though in a fight with a trained warrior I would probably use my Tonfa's because I'm much more skilled with them.

Oh boy, don't get me started on melee weapons...
Let's see... I suppose my favorite pick would be a sword (of the katana variety), but I could also see the other weapons being useful in various situations.
As for a weapon of choice, I'd probably go with something along the lines of a Buster Sword, or barring that a chain whip.

Then again, this is coming from a person who's done kendo.
Practically, a melee weapon would consist of knives, crowbars, metal pipes of any length, baseball bats, and any modern day object.
Personally, (going out on a limb here) I'd prefer the katana as well as the staff. Any other weapon is too clumsy to wield in modern times.

my fifty-inch solid stainless-steel prick, what else? If that don't work out, I'd make really manly internet posts to scare off all opponents.
