A good story will always balance out questionable art-styles or poor voice acting. Though for me to enjoy an average anime, it would have to be the art. Also, I feel like the characters are dependent of the story, so I kind of categorize them to be similar, if not the same. This is just my opinion though.

Honestly it's a tough question. If one of those aspects is really bad it's going to hurt the series overall.
I'd probably say characters with story right behind them though. Flash is nice, but the series I really remember had the characters that drew me in and made me care about what was going on.

Good voice acting is a must have.
It can be nice art, awesome story and characters. But bad voice acting ruins everything.

I went for the 'other' option, i dont care about anything else as long as the echi content is huge..

If I were to venture an answer, I would say that memorable characters are the most important in any story. The stories themselves are not what make people want to read/watch them over and over again, it is always the characters and how they interact with one another that allow for a more interesting story. I think that sometimes authors use supernatural powers/occurances or strange situations/reactions as an excuse or scapegoat in order to avoid key character development. True, this tactic has been used symbolically many times in the past, however it is a truly woeful circumstance when the people within your story begin and remain 2-dimensional personalities from frame one on to the end. It seems to me such a waste of time and energy to write a story like that, and I can never bear to watch (much less read) one where there are no interesting people who will do interesting things in regard to the story and tools they are given. In short, I expect the characters to be the determiners, modifiers, or makers of the story; I thus have the expectation that the quality and depth of the characters will reflect the quality and depth of that very story.

I choose all of the above. a great anime consists of great voice acting, plot line, animation quality and other junk.
when i think of great animes like that i think of Fullmetal Alchemist/ Brotherhood. Death note. Samurai Champloo ect.ect.
and in recent animes Attack on Titan, cause that anime is just fantabulous. :D

I would have to say story and character goes hand and hand you have to have both for it to be successful imo. I also say art somewhat because who doesnt like good visuals? That being said though if the characters and story is good enough then the art can be overlooked.

I'm going to say that the art draws me in, while the story and coherency of the story is what keeps me hooked.

Characters > Story > Voice Acting > Art for me.
I can watch a shitty story if the characters are good, but I can't really watch a good story if I hate all the characters.
I'll also be more willing to try anime that have characters voiced by VAs I like.

Story first and foremost for me but closely followed by good characters and obviously the right voice actors to go with them =)

It's all about the characters man. If you have an amazing story with half assed thought out characters that no one likes, then no one will give two $#!^s about your story. Art is pretty important too, seeing as how it gives the characters another layer of depth.

first, the art. what actually catches my interest first is the art.
second, the character. what convinces me to keep watching are the characters. i`m greatly affected by immersion, so the "ppl" there should be fun/interesting/whatever.
third, the story. it sure is great to watch a story full of content, smart jokes, plot twists or whatever, but it is also great to watch simple or even nonsense animes such as k-on, lucky star, nichijou...
fourth, voice acting. this has never been a problem to me, but it would be terrible watching an anime with obviously amateur voice acting. it`s even worse if your hearing is your best sense

Yeah what Sherlock said....To me, a story can only become interesting because of it's characters, and characters can become independently interesting if they're unique or interesting enough... redundant?
I'd have to agree. Solid characters can really uplift an otherwise average anime. Nothing really beats a great story though.
