Burning the Qur'an

As many of you know, there has been a big controversy over the building of a mosque near the groud zero site. This topic is some what similar but could potentially have fatal affects on troops currenty deployed over seas and even possibly on American civilians. A Florida church is planning to set copies of the Qur'an (the Muslum equivalent of the bible) on fire on the anaiversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack. This could possibly cause an even stronger resentment to form between the Muslum and American communities. The biggest issue is that this could potentially be used by terrorist to influence the people who follow the Muslum religion to hate or even try to kill Americans.
I personally believe that this is a big mistake. This is about as religious intallerant as you can possibly get. Its putting thousands of U.S. troops in even more danger then they already are. Well anyways, what do you guys think. Do you incourage this event or do you appall it?

I'm against religion, so I'm against this as well. South Park is already enough of a poking, and now you're burning their bedtime stories? Come on, you know it leads to nothing good.
Oh wait, church? I see...

The only bad thing about this event is its publicity. Other than that, they should do what the fuck they want to religious texts. It's just a bunch of idiots opposing idiots anyway.
Owned.
"we are praying about it"
They're doing something about it, guys.

This is another potentially sensitive topic, depending on one's personal circumstances. Nonetheless, it would make a good discussion, provided everyone does not get caught up in their own emotions.
Personally, I am against any acts of provocation between groups and/or organizations, intended to incite violence. However, there will always be people who carry out such actions because they may have something to gain from the entire scenario, even more so if things take a turn for the worse.
Perhaps the authorities could step in to ensure that the plan does not go ahead?

We sure like to set stuff on fire as humans.
But couldn't they just stick to burning books like Harry Potter? They'll probably get themselves killed.

If they were killed, then it just proves their point.
Freedom of speech and religion and so on. If people can burn flags, why not books?
As of now, its a guy using freedom of speech to demonstrate that he's an asshole. On the other hand, stopping him will result in shitstorm that will undermine the ideals of america itself. What's next, protesters against Obama are going to be stopped, too, under the pretense that they're inciting a trouble? REporters doing stories on miltary human rights abuses because it will "endanger the troops?"?

Yup, owned big time.
I know that it's pointless and stupid to react emotionally to this burning, but most of the people in the middle East are stupidly obey the Islamic Law, that will potentially harm the Soldiers in a blind state of rage.
and The Pastor is stupid too, for prioritizing his hate, doctrine, and all his conspiracy that Muslim is a Satanic religion.

Islamic LawWhat is that law? If someone from a nation burns the quran, you're supposed to kill everyone from that nation?

I think that was referring to the Religion Leaders that they are blindly following.
But I can't be sure.

Not law, but it's a sin to desecrate the Qu'ran in any manner, including burning it. I don't know how they're supposed to react, but from the sound of the media, it is probably going to be violent.

yup, there's no law about "killing people" just because burning the Qur'an, but like Space said, it's a Sin. Even in the muslim Community we don't dare to walk over the Qur'an.
and about the law, it's usually the usual extremist leaders spouting lies and hate messages to their followers. There's no such law, I'm just using it as an analogy of some sort.

The best the authorities can do is advise against it, I think. Which a four star general has done. Unless this can be proven to have deleterious side effects beyond a shadow of a doubt, nothing can be done. It's classified as free speech, and not hate speech, unless it can be proven that the pastor is trying to provoke the Islamist radicals into committing acts of violence.

Just ask him.He has already stated what point he is trying to get across. The point remains that since nothing can legally be done about this act, we're going to have to sit tight and watch the world react.

Sneak in and coat the books in something that makes it impossible to burn them?
