I must say that it's things like these that makes me think that hate speeches should be included with the few exceptions to the right of free speech (Incitement to riot and defamation being the others), burning the Qur'an should be a crime seeing how provocative it is to a large faction of people. The same with burning flags, other religious text and so on. This will lead to nothing but more hate directed to the US, from pretty much every direction.

Luckily I live in a country where this would be illegal, and doing it on this level would probably get him thrown in jail.

Isn't 11/9 this year the Muslims around the world will be celebrating the Eidul-Fitri on that date? By burning the Quran on that day it will be a slap in the face to Muslims around the world.

Add to that the drawing of pictures, right?

As many of you know, there has been a big controversy over the building of a mosque near the groud zero site. This topic is some what similar but could potentially have fatal affects on troops currenty deployed over seas and even possibly on American civilians. A Florida church is planning to set copies of the Qur'an (the Muslum equivalent of the bible) on fire on the anaiversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack. This could possibly cause an even stronger resentment to form between the Muslum and American communities. The biggest issue is that this could potentially be used by terrorist to influence the people who follow the Muslum religion to hate or even try to kill Americans.

I personally believe that this is a big mistake. This is about as religious intallerant as you can possibly get. Its putting thousands of U.S. troops in even more danger then they already are. Well anyways, what do you guys think. Do you incourage this event or do you appall it?

Things like slander and libel are outlawed because they encroach upon other people's freedoms.

So you're basically saying that people should be free to burn flags, scripts, w/e. Give hate-speeches against sexuality, faiths, races and just keep on adding to prejudices and bigotry around the globe? And that having a law against this, a law which only purpose and result would be more tolerance toward others would be a bad choice, because people should be allowed to do this if they want to?

no is not burning Qur'an is common practice in Moslem itself.
Qur'an is holy book for Islamic People. Because there was a Allah name in It. and we moslem had been taught that when you saw a piece of paper that has Allah name in it been disgraced. Burn It. the order is same to all Abrahamic base religion. Bible, Torah,

I myself had been burn a hundred copies of Qur'an because the copies quality had gone bad ( because of poor quality or the paper itself shatered on some page old copies)

Burning a Qur'an means Honoring a Qur'an itself. It was a noble cause, because you exercise restrain to any attempt that would disgraced Qur'an.

So I think we can let them burn the Qur'an. And about US army, I just can say the moment you sign that form, you had placed yourself on life threatening situation.
