Well it was only a matter of time before shit hit the fan. Lets just hope no really serious damage happens like a world war.

Although bumping is not allowed in S.D, I still am to announce the news update in my post. (The response from North Korea)

I'm willing to bet that they gave their warning and begun to fire five minutes later.
Seriously, are those guys out of their fucking minds?
At least, the South is keeping their head leveled. Still, what's done is done.
North shelled (tried to) a South city, and South put it's army on highest non-war alert. I don't think they will lunch a retaliation, seeing as there were other opportunities to do so (the sinking of Southern corvette for example), but if N. Korea tries to do this again this week, South will return more then just a few shells.
I am curious though, how China will react. For all intents and purposes, a mad regime that wants to jump-start a war is not in their best interests imo.
From what I've seen on CNN news some time ago (2-3 hours ago), the Asian stock markets already registered falls.
Next Korean war, is frankly, not in China's interest.
But you never know. Someone, somewhere might just have a Heel Face Turn and send it all to hell.

Nah, its better if a war does start. BEtter now than 50 years from now when our WMD are 10 times stronger. NK has never been nice since the two Koreas split, and chances are, a war will break out again sooner or later. It should happen sooner rather than later while our weapons are only as strong as they are now. But I doubt a war would start. SK and the rest of the world are too docile. Had that been in the olden days, doubtless war would have started, but seeing how the world has reacted to NK's increasing aggressiveness, I dnt think war will start easily. I also highly doubt it would be a WWIII, mostly because i think it would be more Korean war-ish. After all, it would only be focused on the Korean peninsula. CHina Vs. UN

Or, he did die and they decided to send him off with a bang, with a little bit of saber-rattling by his successor thrown in.
Scary, but it is North Korea.
Alternatively, all the noise from guns caused him a heart attack.

Both North and South Korea should not attempt to push the other party into a corner. Otherwise, there will come a time where either North or South Korea will think in the following manner: "Enough is enough. Prepare for war." By then, the opinions of their allies will not matter.
It is a shame that ordinary civilians are hurt due to the motives of their respective governments. Of course, most people would like to see matters being resolved peacefully, but talking can only do so much.
Personally, I don't think another war will do the rest of Asia, or for that matter, the world, any good. An interference from Celestial Being would be appropriate.

QFT.
The problem is that North Korea is being the antagonist in this conflict. They're going to keep pushing the South up against the wall, waiting for a retaliation. I wholeheartedly believe that the North wants war, and if things keep going as they are, they'll get it. South Korea may try for the most peaceful solution for now, but they will eventually be pushed over the edge. Thats when things will get bloody.
This war, however, does NOT need to happen. And I believe that the more logical members of both governments understand this. Thats the only reason, in my opinion, that a war hasn't already started. For now, the North is just seeing how much they can get away with.

This was bound to happen at some point. Their last conflict only ended because the Americans got fed up with the death toll and said that if they kept on fighting they were going to use a nuke. Funnily enough after that the fighting started to die down.

I would not doubt war either at this time, when you shell another country it doesn't usually tend to sit well with them. If they do start a war, which countries do you guys think will get involved with it?

I know a lot of us thought that the South would be passive again, and while they haven't taken any action beyond the initial retaliation, the President of S. Korea is calling for an escalation of conflict.

For once, I'm actually unhappy I was right =/
But S. Korea has EVERY right to take action.

You do realize this shit has been going on for decades? Just because this attack was slightly larger doesn't mean they're preparing for war. Do you even know where they attacked?
They attacked a little island on the border, it's not anything new this island has always been a hot topic for debate around territory. The island is largely uninhabited, little civilians and mostly stationed troops, hell the civilians are probably just family of troops stationed there.

Opinions of their allies will ALWAYS matter. That's why we've got a little thing called the United Nations established, to stop countries from acting rationally and going into war. SK and NK will not go to war with each other without military support from USA and China, their economy's wouldn't be able to sustain it otherwise. And like i said China and USA won't go to war with each other because it isn't in anyones intreast, politically and economically.
All they're doing right now is showing of their penises, showing that they have some sort of "power". Political propaganda the media is hyping the shit out of. But we all know who the actual men are behind the scenes running things.

Is no one except me pro war here?
North Korea and South Korea have been in a state of war (well, armistice, but still technically state of war) over 50 years, thats not just going to go away, sooner or later war will happen.
Plus, the incidents have been slowly escalating, the skirmish a few years back, the Cheonam, and now this crap
at this point, if NK attacks again, it means war
And nothing the UN says or does will prevent it.

I would totally pro war against North Korea...they are getting more and more ridiculous everyday...UN should back S.Korea and blast N.Korea's government and free North Korean's people from their slavery...

The problem with going to war is that N. Korea isn't the most sane of nations. War is never a good thing as any loss of life is horrible, but a War would be more bloody than any other civil war.
You have to nations that are aiming all their military might at each other, have their capital's right next to the enemy boarder, and have spent the last fifty years perparing to kill each other.
Not to mention, SK vs NK won't be like Superman vs Lex Luthor, it is more like Batman vs the Joker. NK is such an isolated and paranoid nation, they'll uses any means of Warfare to defeat the south, including nuclear and biological weapons.
This is especially dangerous since Seoul is only a couple miles away from NK. A nuclear or biological strike on the Capital would kill millions. NK would have no problems fighting dirty just like they do in Basketball
