Should Prostitution be legal?
0
I know there are already topics related to sexuality, but i wanted to focus specifically on prostitution(if there is a topic on this already i aplogize, but i could not find one such topic).
I personally believe it should be legal. My main reason is that i feel making it illegal has turned it into a much more exploitative industry than it needs to be. With legalization, the government could use regulation to reduce this. With regulation, the power would be in the hands of the prostitute, instead of some so called "pimp."
I mean, porn stars are basically prostitutes, so i don't get why prostitution is illegal while the porn industry continues to grow

If you legal it how will you catch the guys that force women into prostitution?
I agree that it should be legal if you sell your body on your own will. It is yours and no one can decide whats best for you other than yourself. BUT i fear it may increase the number of pimps.

As for my views, why not?
People who hunger for sex can finally have a place to satisfy themselves, sexaul-related crimes will drop and everyone's happy.

Well for one, because prostitution is illegal, if a women gets forced into it she can't do much legally to fight against it. if it was legal prostitutes wouldn't be treated as criminals, thus giving them more legal rights. I admit i don't have a exact plan(i did a debate on this once, but i can't remember what specifically i put into the plan i presented for that debate)I figure the government could figure out a way to prevent women from being forced into it if they tried.
I mean, they've done a pretty good job of keeping the porn industry relatively exploitation free.

there will be some of that,as there has always been forced prostitution, and there are still sweat shops in the garment industry.but the numbers would go down, mainly from two factors:
1.The legal pimps would lobby the government(local mostly),to pursue it to no end.as it is a threat to their profit margin
2.Many girls dont go to the cops out of fear, both of their own pimps and of johnny law(as they think they'll be arrested because its illegal),thus if you make it legal you eliminate the fear of the latter
as to increase the number of pimps, they would be more like the owners of the bunnyland ranch(and other brothels in NV.)or the madams of high priced girl's and less the traditional "thug".as the girls would now be protected from being beaten or threatened. as well as being in an environment that fosters a more corporate/business like approach
add to that you can look at what happened after prohibition and how the large corporations took the liquor trade back from the mafia and other gangs that controlled it during the '20's

I dunno if what I say has much truth in it but aren't most prostitutes forced and unwilling to work in that field?
By making it legal, I'm guessing that the people still in the field are willing individuals therefore the number of legal prostitutes will be minimal. (I believe most prostitutes are made up of addicts, illegal immigrants, poor child upbringing, extreme poverty etc) And if prostitutes are unwilling and it's legalized, the Feminist will hear about it and they will rage plus it'll probably go against simple human rights.
With drastically lower numbers of prostitutes, it'll push it underground and illegal again. It'll bring us nicely back to square one.
Side note: Saw an interview on prostitution and the guy said the only method to stop prostitution is from the demand side. His solution is and I will quote "If you're so desperate for sex, go to the trusty right hand, and if you want the exotic experience, go to your left"
He bashes men a lot, but its kinda true.

Even if they are unwilling in the psychological sense, if they are willing in the physical sense then technically it's consensual sex. As you said, most prostitutes are addicts, illegal immigrants, impoverished, etc, but any women who become prostitutes from those reasons are willingly giving their bodies to men for money. Therefore, they wouldn't technically be forced to be prostitutes.
However, I do believe many feminists will rage if protitution is legal. They already rage about exploitation of women at strip clubs, this is just one step further.
And I do think prostitution should be legal, sex isn't the largest cause of death in the world, only the occasional bad case of VD will be the repercussions, and that's not as bad as cancer from cigarrettes (though it's not wanted either).

That sort of defeats the purpose of prostitution, the customer is supposed to do just about whatever they want to her at a reasonable price.
I dunno if this thread was meant for more global legalization of prostitution or just for America. If its America I'd assume that making it legal also means choice. In such a developed country, I'm plenty sure there's much better professions out there than prostitution. If its 3rd world, then maybe if there is no better option.
To answer the question, No, I don't think making legal really does anything but attempt to silence the crowd concerned about it.

Honestly I don't see why not. It's up to individuals to know how to properly take care of their body and to understand the consequences. It isn't something the government should feel the need to get involved in. Although I do forsee their being a problem with an increase in crimes against people related to prostitution, and that would definitely being a problem the government would rather prevent than have to deal with on a day-by-day basis.
Wow, I think I just de-convinced myself. XD

Prostitution is legal in areas of Nevada. There are no pimps in legal prostitution such as the "Wild Horse Adult Resort & Spa". Legalizing completely removes the need for a pimp as they would be forced out of business. Who would want to pay for sex from a disease ridden street walker vs paying roughly the same amount and knowing you won't go home with Chlamydia or Syphilis?
Also with legalizing it you can regulate the industry and manage safety. This would reduce or even negate the risk of disease. This would reduce the demand for "street walkers" as you would know the likelihood of contracting a disease or even robbed from a street walker instead of a safe and sanitary experience at a legal brothel.
The notion that all prostitutes are poor, immigrants, addicts, otherwise mentally disturbed only applies to the street walkers. These women are usually taken advantage of by a pimp. Who usually takes a fatherly or lover role to the prostitute before subjecting them to psychological or physical abuse. Pimps exist because prostitution is illegal. Legalizing it would remove the negative traits associated with the current trade. While this won't remove a poor woman from the trade at least she'll have a safe and regulated job that would look out for her well being. At least, she would have the choice to be a prostitute rather than forced by a pimp, same goes for immigrants. Addicts will also be removed as the businesses would have a zero tolerance policy which would filter out undesirables.
The brothels in Nevada are an excellent example of why prostitution should be legal. The women are safe, clean, and well compensated and generally taken care of.

I think prostitution is legal in my country (not sure should look it up), however mandatory health check ups are demanded by law every so weeks.

It would have solved all the unemployment issues with woman and can provide a new sector of services for the country for example Human Resources, prostitution laws, more anti pregnancy prevention manufacturers etc.
However there will be femi nazis around to stop this from going on so legalizing it would be difficult if we cannot bypass these women.

I think we're all forgetting a minor detail, men can be prostitutes too.
Anyway, I think it should be legalized. Prostitution is one of the world's oldest professions. I'd love to witness the shitstorm that would ignite about ethics, civil rights, and all that mess. That would be something that I could easily write about. Thinking about it, I think its a great fucking idea just considering the guarantee that all the draconian Godfags will go completely apeshit. For all the religious people, I'm just talking about the ones that can't have a conversation about anything without saying something about someone going to hell. Despite the hell that it would raise initially, after a while, I think levels of stress and rage in any country with legalized prostitution would drop.

I'm fully supporting the legalization of prostitution, for the reasons that FPoD laid out. To me, as long as that activity does not violate anyone's rights and freedom, it should be legal. Otherwise, it shouldn't. Yes, including child indoctrination. That should be illegal, although there's issues of how to actually enforce it.

Once again I agree with FPOD with it legal more regulation and it would be a much better profession. I don't really see to much problem with it at all.
Obviously those guy's in Nevada don’t like the weird stuff because it seems to work good there. It's not like they’re going to limit it to missionary it would really be on a prostitute to prostitute basis of what they will do. It will all depend on ho much money they want to make the more kinky the more money. I really don't think price will go up to much I mean it would have to be at a reasonable price once again Nevada makes it work.

Well once again Nevada seems to make it work, when people need a job they may have to turn to prostitution and some might even pick it as their profession There’s little chance that there will be no one who needs to resort to it.
He bashes men a lot, but its kinda true.
Oh yes because masturbation and sex are the same thing.

Well... prostitution is legalized in Germany and with that there are a few (dis)advantages. First of all it becomes easier for the women / men to fix their health insurance, they have regular medical checkups etc.
Regarding the argument of catching people forcing men / women into prostitution, it becomes neither easier nor harder. The difference however is, that the women won't have to fear of being punished by the law for prostitution etc (though I guess that is due to our judges over here being relatively fair).
However, in my opinion, there is a difference between street prostitution and prostitution in a brothel or a similar establishment. While the first one should be illegal in my opinion, the second one is okay, as long as the owners update the different authorities about the current status on a regular basis.

Ignoring the fact that people can be forced into prostitution, what is bad about it? What is so wrong? If a person wants to charge other people to have sex with them because a) They like sex b) They want money c) They need money d) They're bored or a combination of them, It's their body and they can do what they want with it. That's one problem (of many) that the Government has. They not only control what goes on around us, but are now attempting (or succeeding in some cases) to control us. Some control is needed, but a lot is just unnecessary.
On the receiving end of the prostitution, what is so bad about going out and buying one? Why is it wrong? If a person wants to go and have sex with no strings attached, it's just like going out and purchasing a service. It's a business. And it is consensual, not rape. So no other laws are being violated. Prostitution does not bring harm to others. Making it illegal makes no sense.
