The True God

The Christian faith already has lumped people like me onto the express hell bus So I have no desire to be Christian really.

I used to be a mindless-zombie-Christian, turned agnostic, turned occult, then now as a theist that doesn't side with just one religion. I just believe in a combination of the various mythos existing worldwide. I mean, if the whole world is basically telling the same story, that means there was a really big event in the past that imbeaded itself to various cultures for them to interpret and believe.
Since I've never been to strictly atheist territory, I'll just seat this one out for a while and just see what you guys have to say. This is not much of a debate thread anyway.

I don't believe in a specific god, if i had to explain i would say that i believe there is one being, one "existence yet inexistence" which made everything and created everything, yet has nothing to do with us, it was the start and will be all thats left in the end. I don't believe it created me or you, your pc or your cellphone, rather, he made the first few building blocks of which our world are composed and from that, various combinations emerged.
Next to that i am currently speculating with myself if perhaps WE are IT, as in, when we die, we return to a plane in which memory's of thousands of past lifes return to us, for we have our own power to decide to pick a life and what kind of life it would be.
I'm still thinking about the last one in regards to choices, after all, what ravening existence would pick to be born dead, missing a brean due to radiation?
I might've actually had Christianity as my belief had my education in it not been very much, terrible.

Also, you may want to read about Argumentum ad populum.

And unlike science, the explanations offered by religion are bolstered by nothing. Which means there's absolutely no reason to accept anything religion says as fact; hence faith.Agreed. That's why we should all KILL our neighbors!
But no really. Although I can see where the bible has taught stories to better people... but do we REALLY need religion to teach us to not kill people? To not fuck our neighbors wife(assuming he didn't want you to)? Wouldn't people figure these things out themselves? Sure, there are the dumb ones of the group... but they die off for a reason.

I strongly believe in some sort of god, or higher power, but I'm not religious. I don't subscribe to any religions, and I don't think knowing of the existence of a higher power (or, believing in the existence of a higher power, if you want to be a stickler) adds anything to life or changes anything. It's simply a fact, like the fact that each person has a father and a mother. (Independent of their states at the present.)
The higher power does not have to be intelligent, according to our definition of intelligent. The higher power does not have to be loving or even all-powerful. (It could hold the power to create and destroy everything in the universe but be unable to open a jar of peanuts, for example.) The higher power does not even have to exist anymore. But at one time, there was something, no doubt far beyond our possible conceptions, that made something. The creator-less creator.
I think all religions can be helpful, and not just because people need something to believe in or whatever. If we were all atheists, I don't think we'd get anywhere. Yeah, being an atheist does not mean that you are lazy or hate life or anything, but if one thing has complete rule, it ruins creativity and diversity. People should have different opinions, different thoughts, different beliefs. Everybody being atheist is the same as everybody being Christian. Just feel like throwing that out.

Like Gibbous I am the granite rock of Atheism. I've moved from staunch Christian then eventually fell into pagan beliefs. Within that spectrum I moved from Wiccan to Satanic eventually disregarded all supernatural forces as unproven ramblings of the disillusion. the only thing I keep from my "theist" days are the principles of Satanism.

I used to believe in a God since I was a kid, but evidence seems to suggest otherwise and lately I've been seeing things in an atheist's mindset. Still hard to break out of what I've grown up with, but I'll probably turn into a full atheist.Interesting. Thats what happened to me.

I don't believe in any god, though I still think that the Greek gods are made of fucking win.
I've never been one to put blind faith into anything. Least of all religion. No offense to any religious people out there, but to me, all Gods are just myths. Stories that are made to scare people into being "good". That's probably why I like the Greek/Roman gods. Their stories are interesting to read unlike Christianity where its "Yep, one god made everything that was and ever will be". Snooze fest much?

I tell everybody that God is a load of crap that might not even exist, yet I can't bring myself to denounce the idea completely. No, its not out of fear of being punished but I wholeheartedly hope that there is really an afterlife. In my opinion, people created religion not to explain how everything began, but to ease everybody's fear of death. I try not to tell this to anybody's face because too many people today are so willing to rip your throat out for having " non-traditional " views.

Me I'm born a Catholic (to be specific) but not really that religious. I do study various religious and spiritual concepts including new-age such as magic, witcraft, satanism, etc...
What I believe is that there is a God/Allah/ultimate deity/force/awesome mofo dude that is not good nor bad. That "God" wants to take sides.

You see, I'm kinda like a religious person and, by paper, I belong in the Christian Faith. We are thought of one true God, who created us, saved us, cleansed us of our sins, blah blah and more blah. I'm also fond of mythology, occultism, and of other religions, so I have a background of various beliefs. Each of these faiths have their own "true" God and various minor gods, spirits, demons, etc.I just wanna know: For you guys, do you believe in one true God? And if so, who is he for you? Is he like the Christianic God who loves and cares for us, or is he a far-away deity who created us unintentionally? Is he malevolent or benevolent?
I have my own idea on this, but I wanna know your views first.
Discussion... Start!
P.S. This will not be a thread of theist vs atheist or christians vs muslims or whatever. Just share your views. Atheistic and agnostic views are welcome.
I believe in the Christian God. Despite what others think, I say He's benevolent because of all the blessings He gave us. Even if He turns out to be fake in the end, His teachings should still be learned.

I'm seeing a lack of theistic views... Is atheism and agnosticism that rampant these days?I like to think it is for a reason.
If something does not make enough sense, more people will take an alternative. I don't know if that says something about the people and times we live in, or most religion.
Yeah, religion as a systemmatic structure is starting to make no sense as time flies, maybe because it basically didn't evolve much at all since its birth. People rationally start to tire of the same old shit and starts to turn away from it.

According to the school I attend, I'm Christian. However, I don't share these views a much as they do.They call God a loving, all powerful being. That we were created by him only to praise him. However, a loving God would not create someone just to praise them. And a god who wants us to worship him is not all that loving, in my opinion. So neither of those statements are completely true then.
All-powerful? No. His power is determined by the people who worship him. If many people worship him, his power grows as the fear of 'disobeying' him rises. If no one worships a god however, they are powerless, as people don't care about what it does.
My 2 cents.
The Christian belief that God made us just to worship him do seems odd. That view gives God a malevolent side, almost saying the same as that we are made solely for pleasure.
It is possible that if everybody stops thinking of God, he will cease to exist because he is unacknowledged by anyone and there will be no one to affirm his existence.
My pastor said yesterday that we should love God because He loved us first. That's the benevolent side of Him.

I'm an atheist. I used to be a religious person before....but the more I learn, the more ridiculous I find religion is. Until those people can prove their religion beyond any doubt, don't expect me to change my stance.

Partly Agnostic, partly theistic. I'd love to believe a world in which God exists. I've been brought up as a Christian but my beliefs have faded as I became more jaded.
What I find weird are Christians who read hentai. Come on, isn't this a bit hypocritical of you guys?

This is not the place to discuss about beliefs in God. What replies would you get from people who faps on hentai? It's like asking a retard if he believes in God.

From my perspective, the notion of a God was created to explain things that were otherwise impossible to explain back in the day. Is there a God? Nobody knows and maybe they won't even know if they die. Every culture originally has some form of god or deity that they pray to whenever somethings occult occurs. However, now that we are a more scientific civilization, we can explain most things with sciences and experimentation.
Most of my family is religious and I do happen to be a Catholic but I still don't share the same views as others. I think that if there is a single God then he would be somewhat of a collection of the various gods of every culture. If there is only one God, his teachings may have been distorted through word of mouth as our ancestors may not have had the intelligence or the tools to record such an event. Having a simultaneous explosion of religion throughout the world may point to the fact that there is a God but we don't have any solid facts to base anything on. Most religions have a similar teaching anyways; don't be an asshat.
