What I find weird are Christians who read hentai. Come on, isn't this a bit hypocritical of you guys?
What??? I'm christian and I read hentai. Come on...Not all people are that religious(certainly not me though).
Well the one true god is your mom and dad. They gave you life. they created you so they are your god.

I do not believe in a higher being of any sort or anything of the supernatural. I believe in physical evidence and reasoned logic. If one can show me any definite proof that some supernatural being exists, I will immediately jump on it.
As such, the only true God is the one with the most power in the world, be that the leader of China, the man with the most money, or Barrack Obama.
Well, that's what I believe in.
Just wanted to add.... For those who claim to be Christian.... Are you really a Christian? Think about it.
For the record, I respect people with religions. I think it's great that one can accept a religion. It helps in life and can inspire people. But when things happen because of religion, such as religious wars and what not... That I cannot condone.

I'm a Christian and live by it but I do not use it to counter Science. Religion must not be compared to Logic and Science because they should not contradict one another. In fact they go hand in hand to perfect reason. Science cannot explain somethings in a way that will comfort people or tell them why they should do good things (For example Science does not really say why you should help poor people in need. In fact logic extremists fall in a pit believing these people must be set aside). This is where religion comes in. It does not have to be historically accurate and some stories look so much fiction but what's important are the teachings inside these stories. While Science talks about how we are created Religion answers WHY we are created. Mankind lives not only by instinct like animals do, but they possess the gift of reason to know their true purposes. This however is the original purpose of religion. Because of extremists and corruption sadly this is almost forgotten every time.

Like Gibbous I am the granite rock of Atheism. I've moved from staunch Christian then eventually fell into pagan beliefs. Within that spectrum I moved from Wiccan to Satanic eventually disregarded all supernatural forces as unproven ramblings of the disillusion. the only thing I keep from my "theist" days are the principles of Satanism.PersonDude wrote...
I used to believe in a God since I was a kid, but evidence seems to suggest otherwise and lately I've been seeing things in an atheist's mindset. Still hard to break out of what I've grown up with, but I'll probably turn into a full atheist.Maxiart wrote...

If it pleases the thread creator to grant me license to ask such, I would like to hear from you guys what the "event" was that made you veer away from religion.
Was it a certain incident? Someone you met? A book you've read? Epiphany?
Seeing how all three of you seem to have grown up in a Christian home, I'm highly interested to learn what made you question the faith you grew up with.
Thanks!

I'm a Catholic. I do believe in "God" as the creator of the entire universe and such. I am just thinking like "Even if this God ain't no living thing or something, there gotta be something that create this universe. Whatever that something or event is, let's call it "God""
So yeah, I'm not an all that religious guy. I believe in God but don't like to worship it or something 'cause the way I see it God ain't something that exist anymore.

What??? I'm christian and I read hentai. Come on...Not all people are that religious(certainly not me though).

Well, it sure is against the rule of Christianity... Let's say even I think it's retarded 'cause we're human in the first place. And human naturally love sexual stuff. Let's just say only Highly religious Christian can hold themselves.

I'm Atheist! (but believes in reincarnation)
Yet my family is christian...
I have nothing against others and there Religion, I even like to take place in a few of my Friends Religious Ceremonies to try to better understand them.
However I wont Hesitate To point out flaws in someones religion when they force it upon me(Had to do that against my family).

It was kind of gradual and some credit goes to threads made on Fakku. Made me question my own beliefs since I always thought myself to be quite logical and religion seems to be illogical. I started to argue with myself and even argued with some of my other religious friends. The answers to my questions against Christianity seemed to be too flimsy and was unsatisfying. I started to build up more evidence that religion was BS, and I realized I was an atheist before long.
Hope this fulfills your interests.

I usually don't call my self an atheist but... I have a meutral standpoint toward gods and alike. I don't deny the possibility that something supernatural might have created the world, a god or w/e you choose to call it. But then again, it's not something I say that I believe, it's all just a big ? .
I do not believe in a abrahamitic god though, to much wierd and bad shit going on in the world for him to exist. Well, I do feel it's wierd that everything is there just by chance, a fluke, but... Meh, as I said, who knows, just think it's stupid to have a definitive stand against something that cannot be proven (or unproven).

I don't believe any actually exist. Gods were created by man's imagination because most of us aren't comfortable with the thought of death. We want to believe we have some level of immortality, so we choose to create our own definition by having an eternal soul.

I'm seeing a lack of theistic views... Is atheism and agnosticism that rampant these days?I like to think it is for a reason.
If something does not make enough sense, more people will take an alternative. I don't know if that says something about the people and times we live in, or most religion.
Yeah, religion as a systemmatic structure is starting to make no sense as time flies, maybe because it basically didn't evolve much at all since its birth. People rationally start to tire of the same old shit and starts to turn away from it.
Because religion does not change it's beliefs as new evidence of the world comes to light.
Here's a basic and very accurate description:

We think very much alike Rbz.

Religion forces you to believe. Even if they cant prove things to save themselves, they continue to shove their beliefs down everyone's throat.

That's a common misconception. While there are some religious people that shoves it on you, most don't. People who go out and preach are not forcing you to believe or to even listen. It's entirely up to you if you want to stay and here them preach or not.
Also, there are such thing as Christians who believe in evolution. (I read about it in my history book and forgot what they're called ><)

Slow and gradual process. I had disagreements about how women were portrayed in the bible along with other "plot holes" in the religion that pastors tend to just skim over. That, combined with my own natural desire to be logical, analytical and all around desire to learn conflicted with the notion of faith. I was never one to just "accept" something even in my Christian days. I always wanted to know the who, what, when, why and how of everything and everything beyond that, etc, etc, etc
