I'm gonna buy this soon, and do a perma-death run.*If you don't already know, you can turn off perma-death in this version*
Perma-death makes any game more intense, why would I choose to turn it off?
Agreed, casual mode is lame. Playing hard mode perma death right now, enemies like to team up and target one unit and kill them... ive had to reload alot of times.
I've played for about 15 hours since i got it yesterday, this game is addicting as hell.

The 3DS has a slider on the right side of the top half of the 3DS that changes how strong the 3D effect is, or you can turn it off entirely if you want.

Good.
Does the 3DS XL have that feature as well? Might as well get the one with the bigger screen if it does.

Because figuring out how to do each level perfectly through trial and error is more fun and challenging than rolling through the game without having to worry about my characters dying. And i care too much about story/support conversations to allow a character to die.

Pumpjack: Yeah, it has the same feature. I leave it off too.
Zaff: I guess I'll never understand why people do this.

Please don't turn this awesome thread into a "We don't need a casual mode".

It's also probably there for players who just don't like losing people in the game and to draw in new players.

Was playing lunatic classic and got to Garrick after a few retrys. Didn't realize he had a ranged attack so Lissa died.

If i didnt restart my game, i wouldnt have much of a party right now, the AI in the game is pretty damn relentless on targeting down single party members, more so than i remember it being in any of the other fire emblems ive played, and im not nearly good enough at analyzing the battles to keep them from picking one off every now and then. But casual mode would take all the challenge out of the game. I think im gonna play through the game again when im done and try to do it without restarting a single time.

But you're basically playing casual mode by restarting it.
Are you guys leaving who you marry by chance or are you putting certain people next to your character?
Thoughts on when you should advance to the next class?

As far as I plan, Chrom is going to get Sumia, Virion is getting Sully, I might go with Lissa, I still have no clue as of yet.
Class wise, I'm going max out before I change, Get more skills for everyone, but I think after Tac class and Grandmaster, I might change to a Swordmaster, see if I can some of those bullshit skills like Letality.

A bit of both, the only ones ive really been focusing on are Crom and Sumia and the main character and Lyssa. My other characters ive left mostly up to chance, though if two characters seem to be working well together, ill have them stick close to eachother, whether theyre both males, both females, or one of each.

I'm pretty sure the DSXL has the slide function, it's also much more comfy. For most of my characters I paired them based off movement and spares. Chrom/Sumia, Stahl/Sully, Rickson/Mirabelle (Dark Knight rickson too good) Fredrick/Lissa. MU ended up with because .
What are your top 2:
Personalities: IT'S VAIKE TIME or RADIANT DAWN
Stats: I honestly think that if there's anybody but Donny here, you're doing it wrong. (Kinda a moot point if you're willing to grind given everyone can max out). Naturally MU is second.
Design: Fredrick/Tharja. On one hand we got a dude decked out in armor...with a suit underneath. On the other? Dat skin-tight mage clothing.
Weapon Type: Swords/Dark magic. I tried really hard to like axes, but Swords are just too prevalent and your lords get permanent, healing falchions. Dark magic ties solely on the virtue of Nosferantu, which essentially makes any dark magic capable unit drain tanks, letting them heal during enemy combat phase.
Class: Grandmaster. Dat versatility, dat +4 all stats cry, dat Ignis. Dark Pegasi come in at a distant second thanks entirely to galeforce (OP. Flat out OP, still love GMs more)
Favorite Support:. Chrom/Sumia A for facepalms.

I don't know about everyone else, but I have found the game to be marginally easier than the other fire emblem games. I'm playing hard classic and this cannot even be compared to Radiant Dawn's hard difficulty. You just have way more chances to get experience, the free stuff you get from the sparkly squares and barracks and there is always an extra map you can do after each level. Also you can buy the item that summons an encounter which I think is well worth the gold. I'm on chapter 9 and Chrom and the main character are already pushing lvl 18 along with a few others.
The other thing that makes everything easier is the support system. If you have anyone matched up they get better buffs. You always get +10 hit which is a lot for fire emblem games. I also think that there might be a buff to evasion when someone is about to die because some of my guy should have but they always dodge. We are not talking just one either. I'm getting like 3 dodges in a row at under 5hp and they don't have any support. Maybe its just super luck on my part though.
Marriage is op too in my opinion.

I'm trying my hardest to force Chrom and Sumia, and Lissa has been getting very close to Virion. My main seems to be lonely though. She doesn't seem like any of the male cast, and I can't blame her :/
