Persona 4 Arena

I figured we should have a separate thread so we can talk about the fighting game aspect of this rather than have it with Golden and talk about the plot. Talk about frame advantage and matchups and online warriors and tournaments and that kind of stuff! P4A for Evo2k13! Catherine for Evo2k13!

There is going to be a 24 hour launch tournament that will be streamed here, http://www.twitch.tv/finestko
A lot of people from NorCal will be here?

I've been watching the random streams from FKO, UCI, and Xiei. I don't have any idea what is going on. There are so many flashes and words and the meter goes from 100 to 150? You get some weird boost when you're low on health? What is this Instant Kill thing? Is it like BlazBlue's Astral? Too many questions.

There's this I guess?

The game has been out for a while in Japan in the arcades. The game was released a week ago for console in Japan and will be released on the 7th of August in North America.

I am looking forward to playing a lot of the characters. I'm looking forward to Mitsuru and playing this game too much. I should really be working on doujins abd h manga... I have quite the backlog...

I guess my pic should give away who my main will be in P4U. Subbing Brosuke, too, it's pretty similar to Blazblue from the looks of it and I played that for about a year. I was watching some of Akihiko's trials and I like his close range mixup game, reminds me of Wolverine from MvC.

Labrys probably(or Shadow Labrys). While I did enjoy the Persona games a lot, none of the characters personally got to me,so I'm mainly choosing the new character(PERSONA 1 MC was my favorite design wise, and I really liked his manga personality).

Edit:Forgot Aegis(if she's a Zoner)

Naoto for me. I'm liking her moves so far. Anyone play Kuma? I don't think I will ever touch him.

That's pretty awkward for a button map, mostly just where D is.

I've been to game center and me and some friends are hitting up the aug 7 tournament. so allow me to answer your questions good sir

yea when your low on hp you get more meter, allowing for 3 counter assaults or super into IK which works for some characters, it also allows for more ex mores which are similar to the ex properties of street fighter and cost 25 heat.

not exactly, where as they do share the instant death once hit, IK can be preformed when you have 100 meter and on match point regardless the hp of your foe, blue burst can get you full meter. If you one match point you could just swing it out, everyone's IKs are done by 3downs and cd together (222c+d). I'm just going to also throw this out there, this game does NOT play like blazeblue, when I first tried it, got blown up something fierce by dacidbro, but it's easy enough to figure out

How is the combo system going to work? Will there be a lot of 5AAAA~ type of thing? Is that the only thing? Or will you end up doing a lot of different stuff to maximize damage? I'm curious.

I like swords.

weird at first, since mashing A is going to be what most characters do, so A is your auto combo button, mash it 5+ times and you get a auto super at the end, it doesn't do as much as it would doing the actually button command for the super. There is no DPs just a pressure button command that acts like a DP, everyone has one

Mayucchi wrote...

that depends on the character, for some zoning characters like yukiko and naoto, their combos aren't really so much 5A as it is B (projectile button) C (persona normal attack), and combo enders that push your foe away to continue the zoning game or sweep to set up an oki, you really only mash 5A at the beginning and then finish up with what ever the situation calls for which could be 236 or 214 (quarter circle forward or quarter circle backwards) and a button input.

Not really, some characters need C and D for more damaging combos, or "persona heavy" characters, it's sort of like 3 strike as when you start playing it and learn the buttons it's simple, then you really start learning somethings and it's not so simple anymore, and the combos get complex and pretty looking

A word to the wise, pick a character to the battle play that fits you, because some characters hp is much lower then others, so if you like zoning, better hope your good at it or be like me, have waifu syndrome and pick your waifu from P4 or P3 regardless of good or bad character

I usually start by picking characters I like, but I end up playing characters that fit my style. Of course, I learn to like that character. I wanted to play Noel in BlazBlue, but I ended up with Ragna. I want to play Mitsuru, but I don't know who I'll end up with.

Most other games, I like characters that can control space.

echoeagle3 Oppai Overlord
I am hoping I can have enough money to buy this. Poor college student that I am. I am a big Persona fan. I liked Blazblue. If the fighting system is similar it should be well made. My favorite character was Mitsuru. Im glad she is in this one. Also even though I do plan on starting with characters I like. I will not play with one that I don't like the play style of a Blazeblue example would be I really like Litchi's character but I don't much like her fighting style. So I generally don't play with her

I got some genuine interest in this game, haven't had any plans on purchasing a fighting game since MVC3, which I ended up passing on.

I bought BB:cs used on sale, but never spent the time learning the game mechanics. I'll be waiting for reviews/initial impressions before I bust my piggy bank for P4A.

As the guy who mostly hates on P3~4 *since 1 and 2 are obviously superior games* but still completed all of them, i will have to use characters that i liked at least a little bit.

Which are : Elizabeth, Aigis.

And to answer a simple question like : If you hate Persona, why buy this game at all?
The answer will be : Guilty Gear is my No1 fighting game of all time.

EDIT: On second thought... i may main either Yukiko or Kanji as well so, i will have a huge choice of 4 characters at the start to choose from.

She was actually my No1 choice when the game was just announced *because i seem to like characters who are supposed to be constantly in your face doing crazy sh*t*

But then i saw her gameplay and.......was kinda dissapointed

I heard she's supposed to be *Top Tier* though, not that i'm interested in all that useless tier stuff.
After all it's just numbers, you still have to *PLAY* the character to win

Nope. There are tons of people who want to play Chie. Lets just hope she is better than she was in p4.

I heard Aigis was the best, then Mitsuru. Well, that's okay. Just pick a top tier~

aigis does look cool, a lot better looking then mitsuru, mitsuru is like ragna from extends now, hits you a few times and you wonder where your health is, I'm personally trying to figure out how to zone her and shadow lab

If Mitsuru is like Ragna, I should feel right at home then. I did play Ragna from CT all the way to Extends.
