Persona 4 Arena

I haven't played the story mode at all, and I don't really ever plan to. Lol. Maybe after I play the actual game or watch the anime or something. Haha...

Maybe it's just me, but I find the story mode extremely dull. The cut scenes, dialogues often overlap, and the self thoughts doesn't add a whole lot to what we already know. I agreed with the Kotaku reviewer on the part that the story mode is a part to be "disliked" about the game.

I enjoy visual novels as much as anyone else would, but P4A could have definitely been better in this aspect.

yeeeea I just want an another announcer other then rise, when I hear rise, I want to rip my ears and feed them to the nearest disease ridden dog

Right after I put the disc in, first thing I did was change the voices to Japanese. English voice acting is horrible in these games.

I wish they would have left the names as well, Kuma>Teddy.

Well, knowing the popular status of these two companies working together to create a Blazblue-esque version of a popular RPG has got me interested. Visually, I'm impressed with what I see with the Stateside port of Persona 4 Arena.

My only worry is how popular this game will get among fighters versus casual players, there's a possibility not everyone has played the Persona games to know what's the full story behind the characters/element of the series, myself included, and just picked up the game just for fighting. Do new players have to know the story before picking up P4A?

Knowing Arc Systems Works history for having a long and Visual Novel style storyline from the Blazblue series, I hope to see something similar in P4A that could draw me more into the actual Persona storyline.

Why should it matter if a fighting game player knows what P4 story is? There's a Versus Mode and a Netplay Mode. Go on, pick a character that fits your play style. Learn combos and matchups.

Well, if you want to put it like that...I would gladly jump onto the P4A train in a heartbeat, but I'm going have to wait for a price drop of this game for a while, PS3 titles, new ones at that. sell for a crazy price where I'm living and I'm reserving my finances for other upcoming games to come this year.

Personally, I would feel extra assured about the value I'll be getting from learning more about the game if I knew about the characters/element beforehand, depending on how good it is, I would spend more time in Story Mode in most fighting games I'm into first before taking on anyone on the outside to grasp more of the basics.

as much as I like persona (played 1 - 4) the story mode in this game is ass in my option, I only ran through it because I can't stand rise being the only announcer

You don't really need to know the story of Persona 4 to enjoy Arena but it would help you enjoy the game more. If at all possible, it wouldn't be a bad idea to either play the original P4 or watch the anime. Though it's definitely not required to watch or play either. P4 Arena is still a solid 2D fighter that most people could enjoy even without any background knowledge of the series.

Fighting games aren't to be bought for the stories, there are better genres for that.

ok anyone playing yosuke I just learned something fiddling around with ex moves, C+D j2 will cause yosuke to teleport down without commenting into an attack, so you just be in crouching position

Been working on Labrys mainly. She's a fun character, her moves have good range.I've been having a hard time remembering what all the Universal commands do.(Like the A+B,A+C,etc.)

Fun game, once you get the timing it's pretty easy to chain moves togetherXD

Nope. If it was like BlazBlue or MvC forgot which allowed you to set which character to have original or dubed voice then yes. At this point I prefer hearing Laura Bailey and JYB over Rie Kugimiya and whoever does the MC.

Nope. I bought Arena as a continuation to P4.

In the end, it is all about one's opinion.

On a side note, anyone know how high Yukikos fire up stack can go?

So am I the only one here that's going to main Akihiko? I should be getting the game sometime tomorrow and I can't wait to try him out.

he's a good character, he goes in....hard, your problem lies with getting in on some characters like mitsuru and zoning characters like liz, you do have some nice tools so it's not impossible, but it will be difficult if your moves are baited or predicted, but your character isn't persona heavy so that's good, perfect for people that refuse to use much persona attacks

Yeah, that's exactly why I bought it.

I think this game did a good job doing what it wanted. Give the fighting crowd and the Persona crowd reasons to pick this up. Not huge on fighting games, but I wanted more Persona 4 story and this game gave it to me. I could get into the fighting aspect thanks to the story giving me a reason to pick this up.

Now to figure out which character I really want to focus on. Teddie was fun and Narukami was also pretty solid, so probably one of them.

Mitsuru's regular square attack is awesome. I just spammed it in arcade mode and pretty much destroyed everybody. Then I went and played online using Aigis and got my ass handed to me.
