Title speaks for itself
A Yamatogawa Masterpiece full of vanilla goodness, my favorite personal taste……I wonder, since he worked a little with soul Calibur series (via contests) for the costumes would he get in trouble with her using the original designs for one of his upcoming works?…..a little food for thought

Yamatogawa's Vanilla Essence
Yamatogawa's art is amazing the way he draws attractive, charming characters and this is a taste of his shorter works put into a compilation. Well if you're expecting a book with an overarching narrative you might be a little let down but if you need that Yamatogawa has plenty that are longer more story-driven examples are: Power Play, Witchcraft, and Tayu Tayu which I can recommend. Now in this book there are very few twists and turns in these nine separate stories and its first story is the kinkier kind with voyeuristic eroticism every thing else is pretty much vanilla school life I say buy it especially if you are a fan of Yamatogawa.

Excellent, despite a couple of personal gripes
The opening story of this book, "Naughty Game" isn't a particularly good indicator of what the rest of the stories are like. Which for me, was a good thing, "Naughty Game" wasn't exactly my cup of tea. Thankfully, so many of the stories in this one are excellent that I won't feel bad about skipping it the next time I take a look at this book.
"Touch Me If You Can" and "Pool Cleaning in Progress" are the definite winners for me out of the collection, and "Trip on Trip" is close behind them. There were a couple of things in various stories though that took me out of it a bit... For instance, there's a small phrasing error in an important moment of "Touch Me If You Can" that stuck out like a sore thumb and activated the "work" part of my brain ("jump you" works, but "pounce you" does not. It would be "pounce on you", they're used on back to back pages so it probably just slipped by.) The other things that bothered me a bit were stuff like excessive SFX in some scenes, nothing really major.
Overall, really enjoyed it and I kind of want to check out Witchcraft or Power Play! now.

Worth it
Godly animation as always. Attractive, charming characters. Good short stories.
For me however it is just a little too vanilla. Understandable because it is called vanilla essence, but I'm not a huge vanilla guy. Yamatogawas a solid buy no matter what though. All his works are collection worthy!

Slices of Brilliance
To some, Yamatogawa's best works are his longer, story-driven books. Power Play, Witchcraft, and Tayu Tayu are masterpieces of the genre. In fact, it's been quite a while since we've gotten a taste of his shorter works in a compilation tankoubon and Vanilla Essence does not disappoint.
The unavoidable side-effect of this book being a collection rather than a continuous narrative is that not every entry may resonate with the reader. I personally preferred the fun, flirty antics of Pool Cleaning versus the voyeuristic eroticism of Naughty Game. Touch Me If You Can featured the very underrated appeal of skintight bike wear. You Gotta Star, the penultimate chapter, is one of Yamatogawa's most heartfelt and straightforward romances.
At the end of the day, Vanilla Essence lives up to its name. There are very few twists and turns in the stories compiled in this book. Yamatogawa's signature, lush, lurid artistry is on full display for over 200 pages. The assorted illustrations of his past heroines and author's note at the end are especially nice additions. Even if this work doesn't quite reach the same level as previous masterpieces by the same author, it's still well worth the reader's time as the latest contribution from an industry legend.

Delivers exactly what it promises
Vanilla Essence is pretty much exactly what it says: nice, high quality vanilla sexy times. The book has nine separate stories, all featuring high school girls having a good time. Nothing really any kinkier than some voyeurism and exhibitionism, mostly in the leadoff story "Naughty Game".
Unlike in a lot of Yamatogawa's other books, there's no overarching story or recurring characters. So if you're expecting a book with a narrative, you may be a little disappointed as this is really just an anthology of unrelated vanilla material. But it executes very well on doing exactly that.
The book also includes eight pages of extra sketches and bonus art used in some of Yamatogawa's other books, for dedicated fans of the art.

A great vanilla Hentai Book with well-designed characters.
With Vanilla Essence you will get a great vanilla Hentai Book with well-designed characters and cute little independent stories.
Yamatogawa is one of my favorite artist in this field and I have never regretted purchasing one of his books.
Personally I think Vanilla Essence is not quite as good as Power Play or Witchcraft, but its still a great Manga and absolutely worth buying.
P.S. I love the little extra illustrations at the end of the Manga.

Vanilla at it’s finest.
The Story is about school life with a cute couple with beautiful art with a female character with a balanced body, not too much or too skinny. The sex scene make the character express charming emotion make sex scence not just bang and done. The first 3 story make the drawing at it best later story some feel a bit plain. (I think because the first 3 is the latest work) Who like Vanilla story can’t miss.
