I really would like to see that war. You don't wish to participate in this glorious crusade to rid the cancer of anime?

I enjoyed K-On but not for the "moe-moe" stuff. I like slice-of-life, story-less, funny anime and manga. I do agree with you though that when Azusa turned up in the second season there was a "lets see what we can do to Azusa this time" feeling to every episode. They were very clearly appealing to the "Type B Otaku" you talked about. The first season they did the same thing to Mio. It got annoying after a while. http://www.otakushop.com/brands/K%252dON.html
(random site i just googled)
Withness this...this needlessly spam of products of an anime unworthy of it. Here we have evidence of your words, that it was an anime clearly driven in the name of profits. It shames the very purpose of what an anime should be!
K-on itself is an obvious trap that many were all too willing to pounce into. I grief, anger and dissapoint at such open display of simplicity played by both parties.

In thinking about overrated anime series the big three suspects have just been around (in anime) for quite some time. The following that K-On has is somehow similar in size, or at least has appeared that way, to that of Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece and K-On had 28 episodes compared to the 350+ of Bleach (which has the fewest out of those four). For that reason only I would say K-On is the most overrated. Dragon Ball, Naruto, One piece and bleach have one thing in common, them all follow the shounen genre.
Out of the 4, Dragon Ball probably started it all. It's not as easy to make a person of my age to go "WOW OMG!" anymore (I'm 20 btw.) but back then when we're still young runts, it was less of "Why are does it take 10 episodes to conclude an fight?" and more of the need for the action to keep coming.
It's the very same example of why every boy (at my age group at least) still find power rangers awesome as hell.
Then it just came to the conclusion for the mangaka that they can feed off this unexplainable theory which came to shape itself as the big 3 of shounen jump.

Lucky Star came to mind since Konata is pretty recognizable but the anime felt very "this is how life actually is for us" compared to K-On where it was more "this is how many ways we can mess with Mio and Azusa". The K-On manga felt much better compared to the anime. In the chapters following the Yui and etc's graduation it has felt more realistic and less "moe every 5 seconds". Lucky star was yet the work of another method of grabbing attention that has being used since the dawn of animes.
Dancing. (in the opening)
Just take the other animes for example.
-Haruhi
-Kannagi
-Macross
famous examples, all sharing that one simple element to various degrees. Yet all became fairly well known. (Kannagi didn't really share that much of a popularity, not that i care.)
And once the attention was captured. it was just adding on more stuffs to continue one's attention. Comedy, clever quotes and the moe. In all, a devious combination that worked only too well.
I didn't watch Lucky stars, for a very good reason. Even though she wasn't the winner. Konota won the match again Konoe Konoka(negima) in the saimoe tournament in 2006(or was i 2007...), much to my frakking rage. - 3-
The irony... i know, But everyman would want the woman he fancies to win. Even if it's in areas he doesn't accept.
*edit.
Just noticed. Today officially marks the 4th year i've being around on fakku. Congrats me~

Honored i am to be considered an invitation! My pride swells! :D
...Forgive me, just finished watching the lastest episode of FZ, it's contagious. Don't have to worry about me being too busy, i visit fakku eveyday at least twice.
*Edit
Rise, it has come to my attention that there's 7 servants yet you request us to roll a dice, that has 6 sides... (not that i recall there being a 7 sided dice.)
How about this. lie 7 poker cards (from 1 - 7 of course) faced down with number to indicate them and let the people who're selected to choose from it. It'll run in a first come first serve basis. And by the time 7 cards are chosen, you reveal the results in another pic. Will that be more acceptable?

I'm not hiding the fact that I love to read and watch animes and mangas but if people starts to rate animes by its charas and goes gonzo, there would be the time that others will start to lump us to these people:
Spoiler:

Never disliked K-On...(because i liked their VA cast and the delicious eyebrows of Mugi) but the best anime?? Not acceptable... must be people who judge anime by appearance and shout "moe-moe" like theres no tomorrow...
Spoiler:
Sue me, really. I cannot/will not/don't want to like this. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you good friend, just stating my very bias view on this "anime".

Definitely K-on. I'm sick and tired of hearing how people could possibly say it's the best anime in existence. Their very words put shame to anime and the very sweat and blood that was given to the real deals to the trash can.
I never liked it in the first place. Hell, i even when to watch it to prove my point, and returned with a face so bitter with regret that i actually had to do such a thing. A scar in my history really.
