Religion is a very important thing. Even the slightest difference in beliefs can cause people to kill one another (or move down the block and start their own church). Because of this, it would be impossible to use religion to unite the world.

Now, if we used love of democracy to unite the world, that might work, because even though people have different beliefs about certain aspects of democracy and the way it should work, people can agree to disagree and not get violent when arguments occur. With religion, something as simple as whether to allow a married couple to be able to divorce or not can cause a huge conflict that can never be settled.

I think it has less to do with thoughts and more to do with response. When a straight man sees a naked woman's tits, he doesn't think, "That looks good. I should feel good." The arousal is just a natural response to seeing tits. It's something that happens inside the person's body, regardless of thought. So, if a gay man sees a hard cock, he won't think, "That looks good. I should feel good." He'll just feel good. That's how he'd know he was gay. I think what some scientists believe is that the part of the body that processes these sorts of things is different, and that is why the gay person feels good when he/she sees the genitalia of the same sex. And that sort of thing couldn't just be "rejected" by the brain.

Furthermore, I'm sure that if you asked every gay person in the world, he/she wouldn't tell you that he/she had been raped in a homosexual manner or that he/she was closer to his/her mother or father, or anything like that. That's some of the best evidence for why homosexuality isn't a choice, because in a lot of situations, it just happens.

As for the whole "What if that was your mother or sister?" thing, that could apply to anything. Going back to the murder example, if a man brutally raped a woman and killed her, shouldn't he be sent to jail, maybe get the death penalty? But what if the murderer was your brother or father? Would you still think he deserved the death penalty? The fact is, the guy isn't your brother or father, and the chick sucking Ron Jeremy's cock isn't your mother or sister. If it is, then just turn it off and put it another one. Yell at your mom or sister, if you want. But the movie was made with consenting adults, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Don't feel bad about it. It's one of those things that you hear and see all the time, but only rarely does someone tell you that it's not true. I myself believed it for a long time because I simply didn't know it wasn't true. I don't study the brain or anything, and I've never had any interest in it, so how could I argue with all the advertisements and shows that said it was true?

The Kinsey scale reflects this train of thought, that everyone has a little bit of homosexuality inside of themselves, even if they are straight. A person isn't simply "heterosexual" or "homosexual," but can be both, without necessarily being bisexual; the person could be mostly heterosexual with a little bit of homosexuality.

It's interesting stuff, and it makes sense. A lot more sense than the "Everybody's bi, they just don't admit" that I've heard before (not the same as what discordia's saying; these people say that everyone is bi their entire lives).
