Your physiological sex usually coincides with your gender identity, but that's not the same thing as stating that your genitals determine your gender. In psychology, sex and gender are not the same.

That's why I said that your gender is determined by what's between your ears, not sex. Conflating sex and gender is a dangerous way of thinking, and does a huge disservice to intersexed people who have ambiguous genitals or other complicated conditions. Take, for example, Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome: persons with this condition have XY chromosomes, but appear female because their bodies were unable to respond to the androgens that would have allowed their genitals to develop along male pathways and given them male secondary sexual characteristics at puberty.
