Starcraft I and II discussion thread - fav race?
What race do you like/play with?

I don't know if anyone here plays Starcraft, one of the best campaigning games out there, but I'm going to start it.
I'm a Protoss player through and through, but I also like to play as Zerg from time to time. I find Terran the hardest to micro-manage when duking it out.
As for Starcraft II, I can't wait to play that stuff, but all the old strategies are going to fly right out the window with all these new units and old units with new upgrades. Zealots with a built-in charge attack? Immortals that can take an a siege tank in siege mode? Reapers that can destroy mineral lines in a second? Banelings that can blow shit up on contact? Holy shit, it's a fiesta out there. Anybody's thoughts on Starcraft I or II?

I have stopped playing PC games for a long time, excluding those of the hentai genre. Nonetheless, fond memories of playing Starcraft via my 56k connection still remain.
Protoss was also my favourite race back then, with their extra "armour" making the units and buildings rather hardy. However, the cost of producing them is a huge flaw. The Zergs were good for rushing, provided one is able to pull it off, especially against the more experienced opponents. Lastly, I always thought the Terran had far too much firepower. :D

I've seen some Protoss players rush in with all of their probes and zealots plus excellent microing and take down other players in an instant.
The only two races suited for rushing are Zerg and Protoss, which is hard to suppress if one your allies are Terran, which excel at mid/late game.

I used to play starcraft a lot when I was in high school and I uesd to watch a Korean channel(Arirang) when they televise starcraft matches... Koreans are so damn good at this game...
I usually use protoss specially if it's a long game but if it's a rush game I use Zerg coz its easy to build a rush unit in Zerg

I'm kinda hesitant about SC2 only because there are so many different units and old units with new abilities that whatever old stratgey we used in SC will probably not work. I think microing will be key in this game. There are so many units out there that can make up for dozens of cheese tactics... sending colossuses or reapers from the back gate to the mineral line. SC2's gonna be nuts, and I know I'll enjoy it.

well atlest its diffrent...i wouldn't want SC2 to be the same has SC... well somewhat the same but abit diffrent ya know what i mean

I just want it for the "Use Map Settings" games. I never really played the campaign or any real matches on it. I'm just not that good at micromanagement, so I stick with the Defense and RPG maps.

@g-money- im not sure what you mean by blasting thru a mineral line but the baneling sounds like a infested terran to me.

Man, Terrans own. The good old defenceive треугольник trick oways worked Vs the zerg (you just put 3 bunkers kinda spaced out but in a triangle). I love playing the UMS WW2 and Veit maps. Panzer Kevler was the best map maker ever! Have any of you played any of his maps? Like the RE City one?

@sora851: Banelings are zerglings but evolved, and they explode like infested terrans. Many units in SC2 can now ignore ramps and cliffs and can hop/climp/teleport onto a base on a plateau. (Rised platform) Check out the SC2 website, it's great and they update as well, just not very often.
Protoss Colossus - can climb up and down cliff walls and can easily destroy resource gatherers with its twin laser beams.
Protoss Stalker - can teleport short distances and that includes cliff walls too. Potent attack.
Terran Reaper - can fly/jump up and down cliff walls and can use C4 special ability to destroy the Nexus/Comand Center/hatchery and the surrounding units.
@KV2 - sorry, not really a battlenet user myself, and I usually play LAN with my friends in college. I'm mostly familiar with Lost Temple, The Hunters, and ICCUP Python 1.3.
I dunno about setting up 3 bunkers with stacked marines/firebats inside... that takes up lots of minerals and time, and a competent zerg player can finish you off easily without ever having built a single bunker. (bunker comes within the first 3-4 minutes of the game, either at choke or mineral line. Least that's how my friends played it.)

Never been playing it much, but once I kinda got a hang of it I prefered Terran. The nuclear bomb is the best thing man ever did, we just need unlimited planets to radiate with nukes.
I drool at SC2, which I know I'll play seriously. There are so many tactics that comes in mind just from reading up on the new units.
Also reminds me of the SC finals from Dreamhack winter last year, the micromanagment was so outstanding, blocking enemy units with Drones during a zergrush to gain advantage in reaching the undefended enemy miners ect. And yet he also synched huge forces defending several mineral nodes to a huge frontline ready to fall over an advancing enemy, both micro and macro playing together at perfection.
That final had to be the most epic moment I've experienced related to gaming culture.

@dalif: I don't know about you, but against another player, you probably never get the chance to nuke someone, let alone get the money and time to invest in a science Facility Center with a Covert Ops attached and all the upgrades (they are a must if you want your ghost to have better odds in surviving on the battlefield.) Heavymetal, that's the way to go.

Terran
good balance of units and tech...not very resource demanding to begin with... early tanks + goliths + some marines and medics = pwn

Forget about Terran, I'll get the Protoss mothership blast yall to next dimension. The mothership is just *jaw-dropping* ridiculously stupendously powerful and full of win and awesome. Planet cracker, Time bomb, and the black hole... I've never seen something so powerful. (Of course, in reality we will probably never be able to tech up to the mothership, and we're limited to one for the entire mission.)
I'm waiting to see what the badass new Zerg units are going to pop out in SC2. Apparently even ultralisks can burrow... that's a scary thought.

ultralisk reminds me of a badly banged up ultralisk hunt after i ambushed my friend when i was playing against him ultralisk was his favorite but obviously he forgot i have big mouth cannons....

You know...For us terran players, the zerg are going to inflect massive deaths of our units becuse of the mass selection of units that can now burrow for the zerg. Thank god for flying mechs.
