I probably enjoy it more than I should, but I do think that parts of it are good. Rabid fan bases rarely make sense so naturally when the fan base is as large as F/SN the amount of gibberish increases as well.
Full agreement here. Much like AoT.
Spoiler:
"Love", lol. Much like what goes on in recent teenagers' mind. I sure won't like to see it anywhere near a written medium, much less one hailed to be among the best the anime side has to offer by many.
Spoiler:
Nah, I don't buy that. HF is not that much heavier if you go through the notes carefully. It just seems darker because the MC gods didn't side with him as much. All routes are roughly the same, just that he pulled illogical shits in others and that made the routes seem 'lighter'. Unless if you're saying that he's magically aware the author is gay over him in those routes and that he's gonna succeed anyway, nope, it's no more heavier.
Spoiler:
Completely forgot about that scene lol. Okay, sure infinitesimally better. So typical of Nasu though, hailing something up to eleven only to completely shit on them later. Happened loads with Servants. Except I still hate you Rin, as I generally do any character whose personality is out of place with their background/story.
Spoiler:
While true, it was Nasu who went "hurr Servants totes strong durr". I can still excuse Kuzuki somewhat, he got fuck if I know enhancements from friggin' Medea the master hero mage, but Shirou vs Gil is plain bull. But then again anything Gil in FSN is bull.
Actually Shirou vs Archer too. Dude could keep up with both Lancer (the fastest around) and Berserker (the strongest around). Suddenly, lost to a scrub who's training consists push-ups and can't even perform basic enhancement magic. Lolwtf.
Spoiler:
I sort of agree with you on Saber, except, I don't know, she's being reduced to being a mere pretty blonde from King Arthur is anything but heroic. I pity thee Excalibur and Avalon. Not even the materialization of human ideals could deal with a terrible author.
Hercules, well yup. Hard to characterize with Berserkers, but given his lore is quite rich, I would say he deserved more than being smashed with a laser-coated sword.
I have not played F/HA (and probably never will thanks to the CG, hot as they are I really need no dumb threesomes in my hero stories lest they be truly integral to the plot which since this is Nasu that's as likely as Higgs decaying to neutrinos) so eh. I'll stay with "What lore?" for now.
Same for Lancer, F/HA ain't no F/SN.
I hated Gil in FSN actually. None of his qualities is being captured in there. So in FZ I was like "Is this even the same guy" and got to reading his lore. It was great. Sure, he's an arrogant one, but that just comes with basically conquering the world and even messing with the gods. It's amazing how Urobuchi managed to capture so many sides of him (wisdom, solemnity etc) without actually going off a tangent to explain his background. His exchanges with Kirei and Iskander in particular is golden. Actually wait, those are actually the times he is actually sober in the entire F/Z and F/SN combined. Then I guess we can say Gil was not really nerfed in F/SN, just that the characters in the latter suck hard enough he couldn't quite be sober with them... lol.
Most of the later Fates were taken charge of by other people, he had little or next to no involvement in them. He obviously didn't want to keep writing Fate somewhere down the line to the point to where he openly declared he didn't want to do it anymore.
Oh ok, didn't know this. I take the statement back. You fucking suck Nasu but I ain't insulting you for things you didn't do. I did think rehashing Saber too many times is too dumb...
Nasu supervised the drafts of F/Z, Urobuchi said he accepted 90% of his ideas.
Maybe, but "ideas" is a far cry for actual writing. I accept pointers all the time when writing my works but I arranged it myself. And ratios are hardly helpful, he could give 10 and 9 was accepted but the story as a whole involved like a thousand. 90% acceptance still! Fact is, Urobuchi was the superior author (though he does blip at times too). Saddening, as I said. One does not simply take your original framework and produce something better.
To sum up my opinion why Nasu fucking sucks, I'll quote the man himself:
TYPE-MOON Ace 7 - 10 year Anniversary interview: Nasu Kinoko X Takeuchi Takashi X Urobuchi Gen
Q: Having the "black" one as the main character and the "white" one as the villain is a refreshing idea. Then, how about the red Saber (Saber Extra), who appeared in Fate/Extra?
Q: Having the "black" one as the main character and the "white" one as the villain is a refreshing idea. Then, how about the red Saber (Saber Extra), who appeared in Fate/Extra?
Uro: That character is completely disconnected from the other Sabers. Personally, she looked like a female Gilgamesh to me.
Nasu: If I had written Fate/Zero, then Iskandar would have been a character like Red Saber. In my mind, I can only see Iskandar as a worthy opponent to Gilgamesh, but the Iskandar Urobuchi created was an excellent, wild, and unprecedented character that I could have never thought up. But I want to surpass him somehow, so maybe Red Saber was born out of my drive to create a different tyrant from Iskandar.
Excuse me, like... WHAT? God how lucky for me you let Uro did the job smh.

I don't think you should get offended by the fact that Fate has a rather large fan base and the consequences thereof.
Anything with a large fan base can be rather annyoing, to the point where people start shoving their hype in your face, simply because they can't compose themselves out of blind appreciation.
Of course Fate/Stay Night is not the be all end all when it comes to fiction, but neither is anything else out there.
The reason why the fan base treat this anime adaptation as the second coming of Michael Jackson is simply because there is just too much flat out bad anime coming out nowadays. By the time the 93rd high school romcom had aired, people simply stopped caring and just wanted something different (the fact that most action shows were just too shounen didn't help either).
I think comparatively speaking, you can still say that Fate/Stay Night is head and shoulders above most other shows that came out in the last 3 years. Again, Sturgeon's Law can be applied here very handily. But looking at it as a work of fiction among other works of fiction not restricted to the medium of anime or VNs, you can clearly see that it's very flawed.
At the end of the day, it has a lot to do with perspective when viewing these kinds of things. Most hardcore fanboys of this franchise - or any franchise for that matter - probably haven't had much exposure to other really well written shows/novels/whatever. Or maybe it was just one of their first experiences of the anime/VN medium.
In general, I strongly believe that overanalyzing stroies in fiction and picking them apart piece by piece is not the right way to approach most of them, as the majority of them are written to offer an exciting imaginary experience rather than thought provoking philosiphical questions. As such, being overly critical isn't the right mindset when going into this medium. Of course, we can't be content with mediocrity either, but a healthy middleground is what we should aim towards (not bearing a burning hatred towards a particular author might also help in that regard).

Fate Stay Night was first published at year 2004. Nasu wrote most of the story while he was in high school. Fate/Zero was published at late 2006~2007, and it will be a real surprise if after 2 years of gap Urobochi only manages to write something equal or less to the original F/SN.
To call F/SN having bad writing is like a high schooler calling a primary schooler's award winning essay shit. Which is to say, why don't you write something that's won high praise and admiration and love even after 10 years of time, and then start the whining again.

Can't we just enjoy the animu :<
Come to think of it, Gil's basically always screwed by plot armors and by the mush he call a brain.

I wanted to wait until the weekend for time to form an adequate response.
It's incorrect to compare the two authors since Nasu writes differently from Urobuchi, not worse. Their approach to writing for example, Nasu's works tend to focus on conflicts of a personal level(HF was about accepting flaws in a relationship as Illya and Sakura showed) while Urobuchi's are on a more abstract, larger scale of things like different perspectives clashing(Saya no Uta, which was full of dumb threesomes btw). It's in the vein of what Zolnir said, "a highschooler calling a primary schooler's award winning essay shit" they are in two different grading criteria and using one criteria for another is improper.
Your assumption is incorrect. If Nasu's idea's composed 90% of the story and there were a thousand parts to the story, Nasu would be credible for 900 parts of the story compared to Urobuchi's 100. 90% of anything is going to be a vast majority because it's a percentage of the total.
Closer than you think, the impetus for writing comes from testing ideas. If Nasu didn't provide the foundation F/Z would probably be worse, especially since Urobuchi said he was in a slump at the time of writing F/Z.
I really don't understand why your insulting Nasu for being mature and complimenting Urobuchi by being honest in saying he never could have made Iskander and that he's trying to honor his talent by trying to improve himself with his attempt on Red Saber(who's complete fanservicey nature was TOTALLY the fault of Type-Moon). I mean, could you do the same in his position? I can't see a writer learning from experience being a bad thing.
Point is J4ck and Zolnir are right, F/SN was good(not amazing) for it's time and criteria especially considering it's a galgame. It's okay to be critical but once you start going off on tirades or digging for reasons to butcher a work your reason gives way to blind hatred that only deters fair judgement.
I'd rather have fun talking about what I genuinely enjoy from this adaptation than pick apart someone's argument while a group of people nip at their heels.
A thirty minute long episode of exposition, immediately after we complained about talking in anime. lol the irony.

Brief listing of the goods and the not-so-goods of this week's episode in order of appearance:
+ Rin's seducive as fuck buttshaking
+ Rin offering Shirou tea in his own house (lols)
+ Saber wearing her dress from F/Z
+ Raincoat
+ Majestic one handed book closing gesture
+ Jouji Nakata's breathtaking voice
+ "Your name?" - "Emiya Shirou" - "Emiya? ..." *this is gonna be fun*
+ The circling that has been passed down in the Armstrong Kotomine family for generations
- Rin not inheriting the circling that has been passed down in the Armstrong Tohsaka family for generations (I would have flipped my shit if she had actually done that)
- The lights were off, giving this scene a different feel compared to its VN counterpart (I find the contrast between the symbolic nature of a brightly lit church and an overly suspicious priest taunting people to wage war against one another to be stronger than the moody atmosphere of a darkened church)
+ YOROKOBE SHOUNEN
- YOROKOBE SHOUNEN scene could have been better
+ BAASAAKAA
+ The episode preview is a nice touch
Also I really missed the "Church on the hill" theme here, but I suppose that wouldn't work as well without a brightly lit hall. I read somewhere that they used a dark and moody "remix" of some sort instead but I didn't notice anything and I haven't come around to rewatch the episode yet.

Requesting a gif of Rin's ass-waggling.
Anyways, I was slightly disheartened when I saw episode 2 was only 21 minutes long, but not in the arrogant, ungrateful way. It would've been too much for my heart if it continued to be 40 minutes long.
Anyways, Saber is so fucking dazzling I swear. I don't think she's ever looked this good.
I loved the church scene. Anyone who's completely new to the series can get a bit of a giggle from this scene if they watched F/Z because much of Kirei's lecture has much more meaning they come across. I think I counted 3-4 references to Kiritsugu during his lecture other than the "direct" references to him.
The YOROKOBE SHOUNEN scene could've been so much better. There's so much significance to that phrase, it's the beginning of everything.

You people still exist?
Anyway I skipped most of this episode because of the boring exposition. I've already beaten the game trice so I know the ins-and-outs of it.

That unnecessary yet totally appriecated Rin ass shake was great..
Anyway, loving the adaption so far. It captures the pacing and the tone of the eroge really well. My only complaint so far was the 3d cg background walking people in epi two but tis pretty minor.

Rin bends over, the internet explodes.
Based Shirou rocking his new jacket.
Raincoat Saber in a state of shock that Shirou is dat guy's son.
Tsundere's at 100% with proactive Emiya-kun.
A bit early but there's gonna be no Ruby to save you this time Illya :(

Man, the internet must be a really shitty place right now for anyone new to the franchise. There are people on youtube and reddit who go out of their way to deliberately spoil the series for newcomers which I find hilarious and outrageous at the same time. It's just sad.

As if to apologize for last episode, they made this entire episode dedicated to fighting. Guilty pleasures.

I've never been so blown away by an action scene...every episode has been flooring me. Honestly haven't enjoyed watching an anime this much in a while. I'll have to admit a part of it is just me completely being superficial about the animation but nonetheless, the pacing has been superb (This is me coming in with no VN knowledge and just fate zero).
