You don't have to arrive at a conclusion to see that Kyousuke was partially responsible. You can't be sure HOW necessarily, but it is easy to see that yeah, he did something.Episode 5 was the first time I'd even heard Kirino complain that her brother had not been there earlier. If her being standoffish to her brother is a hint to past distrust then you must have powers of observation far beyond normal viewers; my experience has been that siblings want to distance themselves from the other at that age anyway. I found the aspect of spending any sort of time with my brother unappealing even though we were relatively civil to each other. From how I've seen it, Kirino had kind of dragged her brother into this and has consistently put him in positions to solve problems that she herself ought to be solving.

The fact that you keep parading him around like some saint despite this information is annoying.I'm not parading him as a saint. Considering the stuff he's had to do recently to keep his sisters reputation intact I think is deserving of a break; His father thinks he's a siscon (and got a punch in the face for it), Kirino's friends think he's having 'relations' with her. And in this episode he got kicked in the dick because his sister apparently can't handle her own problems, and then slapped because he took the blame for Kirino being an otaku, and again because Kirino had dragged Kyousuke into it. Even though you say Kyousuke is in some way shape or form responsible for the distance between them, an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

In fact, there is even more room because the major aspect of the story is to watch her growth.
I understand what you are trying to say but you are going about it the wrong way. Way too aggressive.

You act like Kyousuke didn't help to cause the gap between him and Kirino. And by that, I mean he pretty much is responsible for it. But no, whine about how he's had bad luck even though it was a good deal his own fault it happened.
Here's where you jumped in with knowledge that none of us who are just watching the anime have, and you blame oneshott for his lack of knowledge outside of the medium. Stuff us anime-watchers only know is that those two haven't gotten along for an undetermined length of time and Kirino treats her brother rather poorly despite him taking some risks to help her. Because of this, oneshott's feelings towards this matter shouldn't surprise anyone. Let's discuss it once the anime actually tells us about their backstory.

Spoiler:
After seeing only the 5 episodes and reading up to current manga chapters, and not reading any of the LN I can only come to the same conclusion and views of Kyousuke and Kirino's relationship that Oneshott has.
Also, all this extra stuff mentioned about there relationship, probably shoulda been place in spoilers? just saying.

The only thing I added in that you didn't already know, is that for sure she did those things because of the gap between them and wanting his attention. And that's only for sure. You can even surmise or suspect this level from her actions and behavior.
That's the only additional information you learned from me. Everything else, is easy to skim from the story. So yeah, I am poking fingers at you guys for missing fucking obvious stuff.
You guys are still hung up on the "Oh look at all he did for her and everything!"
Except she's not ungrateful. Sure she is still a little tsun about it. But she does plenty of things. Like saying thank you to him, and helping him explore anime/eroge. Because she loves these things you can see how this would be a very enormous display of affection for him.
Even the act of her coming to him for help. She is putting her trust in him because she wants to believe in him.
Yeah, he helped her. But it's not like she sat there and was ungrateful or beat the crap out of him for it.
And then with the newer episodes, you even start to really see the origins of why she is this way. Especially with the fifth episode.
She exploded at him. Telling him not to act like a big brother when he didn't all this time. That is someone speaking like they were abandoned. This is a big fucking flag that shows that Hey, maybe Kirino isn't the only one who created the divide between them.
Yes I'm annoyed. Because people can't seem to read characters in depth. They have to sit there and have everything handed to them. They don't actually look into the story. And then they sit there and judge everything so one sidedly.
And this is such an amazing story. One of the best I've seen in any anime/manga/LN.
So yes, I'm pissed that people seem to be going out of their way in ignoring a big chunk of the story because they weren't spoon fed the stuff.

It's hard to see hidden meanings in anime conversation...or maybe it is more hinted in the LN....
and could you guys discuss about episode 5 more peacefully?
The point is that:
1. Kyousuke is trying his best now to help his sister, maybe because he feels responsible for their previous relationship or whatever.
2. Kirino is too tsundere to even say thank you properly to her brother - maybe for the same reason as above - it became hard for her to actually do something nice for him.
Maybe Kirino always wanted him to be her caring brother...she became frustrated and kick his balls because of the disappointment of him not being a brother for her during these previous years....

Slowpoke, finished watching episode 5.
Kinda mixed feelings, didn't really like how the whole conflict ended actually, felt too weird probably because of my bad understanding.
Well, I liked the previous eps better then this one, for sure I guess.
I like don't hate Ayase though something in me burned when she said "Sorry I dont think we can be friends anymore" when she saw Kirino's doujinshis (She made Kirino's favorite doujinshis drop!! Pick it up it's getting wet and spoilt meanie!! Ahhh rich people have it easy). Still, I didn't like how the conflict end at all actually, especially the final "confession joke", made ep5 disappointing for me.
Still, best moment in this episode that I like is when Kirino told Kyousuke that he never cared for her for so long so why is he caring now.

Woah.... Chill down guys :D The information about their past was great to hear, but i would put it in a spoiler just to be considerate to other people who do not want to see it. Since of coarse this is the anime series discussion and as such most people that visit here has only seen the anime and not the manga or LN. :D
I would like to hear the opinion of the people here on fakku about ayase :(
MAAAAANNN!!! i had high expectations for ayase, but to think that she was some yandere bitch T_T (and the bad kind not the kinds that i like) well imo anyway :D But seriously i thought she was the kind to be accepting of something like manga. Oh and a possible love candidate for the older brother :D

At that point ayase feels that kyousuke is the main problem of kirino's habbit, so she decided that kirino's habbit is not the main problem here but kyousuke's incest....so she made up with her and made him the enemy....lol

Still, nekohime is right, it was weird. Kyosuke needs to think of a plan and the best he can up with was that?
"Alright I know this looks bad Ayase, but maybe if I put it in proper context, you'll understand. I only got one word for you, just one: Incest.
Eh? eh? Makes sense now right?"

Actually, it fits.
You wouldn't be able to reason /w Ayase, especially in that situation. I've known people with that exact mindset, hell my parents were like that, and I know from experience that, short of dropping a nuke onto the conversation, you CANNOT derail their tiny minds from the "Omg but iz anime! iz make u raep gurlz!" bullshit the media circulates.
I mean, yes, going "Hey, look! Incest!" is a tad extreme, but at least it worked, right?

I agree, as I know of some stubborn people like this as well. And, as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures, and Kyousuke probably didn't want to play the incest card, but it was the only way to displace Ayase's hatred away from Kirino and amend their friendship. Also, it could be a little bit of his subconscious coming out...hm...
Also, what I wish would have happened instead:

Saw episode 6.
Queen Manami reigns over my heart. May her reign be everlasting...or at least until we get Kuroneko's episode.
Manami's family is awesome. So light-hearted. A truly warm atmosphere.
I'm not sure what to make of Kirino now.

While the episode was overly enjoyable, I couldn't help be notice that it was not due to Manami.
She was pretty mild and plain and in the background for the most part. It's her family that really took over that episode and made the good parts, she was mostly along for the ride if at all.
Oh and Kirino is adorable. Such a brocon.
