The Slut Movement - Should it be allowed?
Should girls be allowed to dress however they want even if its totally slutty?

Where giz when you need her. Meh.People should be allowed to do or wear whatever they want. Yeah you risking the chance of rape and murder.. mostly in society where men base life on desire and claim.. well i had a boner.. she a slut. Plus slut is a woman who fucks anyone or with no control.. not a look.. an action.
This. Let them wear whatever. If something bad happens its not her fault, its a risk of life. I would like to compare it to leaving your expensive Mercedes unlocked and windows down in a part of town known for car theft but that feels too simplistic. The fact remains if a rapist has picked a victim, his/her attire becomes entirely irrelevant at that point. You can argue a rapist will more likely go after the girl in short-shorts vs loose jeans if they do not know the target. I don't think walking around in underwear only will mean someone "deserves" or "asks for" a rape, it just makes some idiot rapist think that and may use it as some cheap excuse in court.

Thanks.
P.s Tell us why you think it should or should not be allowed too..
Yes. They are important and making noise for a good reason.
Just because someone wears something does not give anyone the liberty to harass them. Your body, your choice; wearing certain clothing has nothing to do with sexual preference, desire to engage in sex, or desire to be harassed.
Seriously. It just makes sense.
That said, if one wants to garner respect in certain social situations, jobs, and places, dressing appropriately (modesty according to the relationship with those there) is fine and good.
"SlutWalk began in Toronto on April 2011, when a Toronto police officer spoke at a law school and said that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."
This has cause an outcry to take back the word slut in order to no longer be oppressed by 'slut-shaming'
SlutWalk wants to impose the message onto our community that no matter what a person is wearing, they do not deserve to be sexually abused or raped. Violence is never deserved- no matter what a person wears, who they associate with, or who they are.
Anyone can be rationalized to be a slut- but no one deserves to be raped."
--- for those confused, that's the mission statement (in so many words, taken from an example event at my school this weekend" of these movements. It's not about "YAAAAAAAAY LET'S ALL DRESS LIKE SLUTS AND TEASE MEN"; it's about safety, personal choice, and telling authorities that such judgement of sexual activity based only on clothing is WRONG.

Frankly, some of the replies in this thread both scare and bring me to tears. You can joke all day long about how "no means yes", "asking for it", "unlocked cars" and etc., but realize that you are ENDORSING rapists by justifying their actions.
Victim blaming in any form just lets criminals slip by through this world, and keeps fear instilled in so so many women (and men) who feel unsafe in their own environments.
And once again, rapists don't give a fuck about clothing, so blaming outward appearance is immaterial and victim blaming makes ZERO sense: if a person is going to rape, they will do it no matter the outfit (think prison, child abuse, domestic violence, etc).
I find this image (and others like it, showing clearly "modestly dressed" people) make this point even stronger than words can.

And again, the recent case with Trayvon Martin once again proves: being dressed (or of a certain racial appearance) a certain way does not mean an invitation for physical harm, or assumption of character.

Well with the fact you should watch your surroundings and actions in public. If your walking with no clothes in a public street then you expect horny men to try to fuck you. Shit rape is just one word.. no. Fuck rape wasn't even a crime until the early 19th century.. for common folks. you know how many people has raped by the British in the revolutionary war or any war or time since the caveman and a stick.
Same reason i don't pull out cash or stuff in public.. i don't wanta be jacked. Be smart.. blend in.

If the clothing covers the the parts it should, it's okay. If it doesn't, then fine her or whatever the law in country X says about streaking. Simple as that.
I find the car example to be somewhat lacking. How come anyone in revealing clothes counts as 'unlocked'? It's just more flesh visible. The best I can come up is that shops shouldn't have display windows, cause it encourages theft.
I wonder if the rape rates were lower in the times when dressing codes were different, in the Victorian era for example. Personally I doubt it.

Okay, a couple things..
On the one hand, I completely agree that Rape is one of [if not THE] most heinous crimes that can be committed, and I do believe that a woman never 'asks' to be raped, regardless of how suggestive or not suggestive her attire is...
But.. I also feel like [some of the individuals/quotes] were glorifying trashy behavior. Women who don't wear panties with their mini skirts are not asking to be violated, but they're definitely asking for something.
I hope they can find a happy medium between empowerment and straight-up hoochie behavior.
I would like to explicitly state that when I say 'hoochie' behavior, I'm talking about the extreme cases of indecency. I do not need to see bare vulva when someone bends over, period. There's nothing classy or tasteful about that kind of shit.

I didn't even finish the video lol.
Anyway, honestly, what I think is that it is up to them to what they wear. They decide to wear that, they should know what troubles that come along with it. Just don't go to far...

As long as it doesn't violate any laws a women should be able to wear whatever she wants. And how a woman is dressed should never be used to excuse a rapist. I don't care if the chick is bare ass naked. No means no, and you have a brain for a reason

Well I understand the prime reason of complaint for this movement. It is to express the anger against the law enforcement that basically stated: "How you dress determines if you're a slut or not. Sluts ask to get raped." All the social stigmas that aren't simply true.
If a woman dresses in a provocative way, it doesn't confirm her to be a true slut. The usual main reason is to gain attention by visual appeal only. Girls like to be told they're sexy or beautiful. Even if it is from people they have no real attraction for. It's just to boost self-esteem and not actually mean they want to have sex. Some girls enjoy eyes on them, but do not want or deserve hands on them.
Looking is completely different from touching. If women really do not want you to stare at their body parts, they will not allow them to be revealed. So when a woman's cleavage is obviously showing, there is nothing illegal with grasping a look. But never ever try to cop a feel.
I've met women who have dressed "slutty" yet show respect for themselves that they refuse to sleep with any man without love. A real slut is a woman that has no self respect or respect for anyone else.
I rather see women just dress "slutty" than drinking and getting drunk.

Quite frankly, what's wrong with dressing how you want?
If they get attacked, isn't it the governments fault for not protecting them well enough?
Freedom of movement, freedom of speech and freedom of dress.

"unlocked cars" I agree the rapist is always at fault. People who don't dress "provocatively" are also at risk.
But my car analogy was pertaining to personal safety.
Leaving valuable in an unlocked car isn't a personal invitation to get my things stolen. Doesn't mean it won't happen. The thief in this situation will do anything to justify his actions if caught/confronted.

They are asking to be raped, even though they say they are not, they want it. You make me cry for the future. Actually, you make me cringe at any future interactions you might have: do you not realize that you're victim-blaming?
Any time you say that, you have a huge chance of being around someone who's been assaulted or raped and heard that exact same bullshit logic justifying the horrors enacted on their bodies.

I really don't get the reasoning behind their movement.
First of all, the police officer said "women should avoid dressing like sluts", emphasizing he was just giving advise to them, and there is nothing wrong with that. They have the right to do so for the sake of the public and not only for selected population. It is really a personal choice to dress in any way you want, however, the place should also be considered.
To tell you honestly, I think this movement is trying to bring us back to the time when Adam and Eve still haven't eaten the forbidden fruit and there were no malicious insights about sexuality.
It is true that rapists don't choose their victims, but people whom they see as more vulnerable are more likely to be victimized. Whatever turns you on, yo.
Heck, the law enforcers are not always there to save our butts. We should also do something for ourselves.

I know that.
But comments like some in this thread are just so fucked up. Do they not realize every time they make light of rape or inadvertently victim-blame, that's a huge trigger for any survivors of this stuff?

In all seriousness though..I dont care about the movement, whether or not this movement happens is no concern of mine. However the only thing I have to say about this movement is
If the movement happens then fine but don't expose children to it, because you never know a child who see's it might follow suit.
And another is
Girls who did this should understand that they CAN do this but they have to be prepared for any consequences - like remarks from people and possible aggression from the opposite sex..
If they understand this and don't expose children to it then I would say Yes to it as well.

Who cares; women are property anyways. It's like getting upset over your refrigerator's choice of magnets.
