While I agree with almost everything you said in your first post, and strongly disagree with Princess Luna, I don't entirely agree with your definition of "victim blaming."

I'm generally all for people's right to engage in risky behavior. And I believe the government, and society as a whole, has a role in protecting individuals from things like rape (bold statement, I know). Invariably, some risk of rape does exist, and this risk is enhanced by things like going out alone at night, and maybe dressing provocatively. When people knowingly take such risks, they are making decisions that may be perfectly reasonable, or downright retarded, given the circumstances. To say that an individual's choices played a role in the misfortune that struck them is not victim blaming, imo.

The way I see it, all the moral blame lies on the rapist. But in terms of cause and effect, the victim's choices are part of the cause, and thus can be modified to change the result. Would it be better if no one got raped because of how they dressed ever? Yes.

But that's not the world we live in.

OT: I do support the Slutwalk movement's general message, that no state of dress invites rape.

They're real estate. Speaking of women, who beats their wife? It's like keying your own car.

If everyone keeps treating this like an IB thread, at least have it moved to IB.

That SlutWalk thing was really unnecessary. Yes, the cop was out of line for how he phrased that statement, but he was right at the same time. (some) Women want to be identified by who they are mentally and socially, not by their body. As a man, sure, I like seeing a girl with a nice ass and big tits walk by in a mini-skirt and a tank-top/sports bra, but if she want's to be respected, she should dress in a way that draws more attention to her overall instead of just her body.

This also brings in a new question: For those who are fathers/Mothers on this site, would you let your 5 y.o. daughter go to school in a mini-skirt and heels?

Children wear shorts, dresses and small clothing quite often (and acceptably) to enable movement.

I wouldn't let my young daughter dress like that. Mini skirts? No. Knee-length? Yes. High Heels? No. Mary Janes? Yes. She can dress differently when she becomes capable of understanding the attention she'd get for such attire.

Well, RAPE is simply forcing yourself against a man/womans will. A complete Submission. or somewhat related to that.

They should be able to do what they want, however it is not in anyone's best interest to draw attention to the subject. The movement, to me, screams attention whores rather than women's rights activists. If they're so proud of being "sluts" why do they feel the need to bring attention to it?
