Which do you prefer?

holy...90% for sub right now. I prefer dub cause I get irritated reading (come on...if I wanted to read I'd get a book) instead of watching the show.

I think that subbed is the BEST! Personally I find it interesting to listen to the Japanese voices and learn from them. English is boring.

I actually agree with this. I never really understood how a person that didn't understand Japanese could say that a Japanese voice actor did a really good job acting. On some level, yeah, it's easy to tell when an actor is doing something right or wrong, but without an intimate knowledge of the language, how can you know if the actor is placing an emphasis on the right words? Or pausing appropriately?



This, however, is garbage.

I'm pretty sure they don't have two companies translating, one for the sub and one for the dub. I imagine what a company does is translate what's being said and use that for the subtitles. Then, they take the sub script and work with it so that it can be dubbed. So, if the subs aren't an exact translation and shouldn't be preferred, what does that say about the dub script?

Also, yes, the dub writers often do get the meaning and intent of the original Japanese script across, but that doesn't mean they give a very accurate translation. The dub of the second half of Dragon Ball Z (that came on Cartoon Network, not the redoing that's been released in the season sets) told the basic story but wasn't horribly inaccurate. There were a ton of crappy jokes, dialogue where there was only music in the original, and many pointless changes that served no purpose. When companies do stuff like that, why should we trust them?

I'm not saying that all dubbing companies do that, but it's happened more than a few times. Not exactly rare. Because of that, I stick with subs the majority of the time. With subs, they have no reason to change anything. (Though some companies have used inaccurate subs to match the dubs, which makes me weary of all companies.)

Also, to anybody crying "WEEABOO!" you should remember that you are on a site for animated porn and anime. Calling people weeaboos here is like going to a furry convention with cat ears and a tail and saying that the fursuited people are crazy.

I don't know there in the US, but here in Brazil, there's some 'famous' animes that everyone can watch in 'public' TV [which you don't have to pay], like YuYu Hakusho and Dragon Ball. I won't say that I hate, but I really don't like it, 'cause the translations aren't to much loyal to the original.

Subbed animes are better than the dubbed, because you can, not only listen the original voice, but understand everything that is happening.

Of course, this is my point of view =)

Eureka 7 was the only really good dub that ive seen. Despite what most people think, I though that Death Note was subbed pretty well too. But subs are by far the best choice when watching anime!

i like subbed anime the most but if it wasn't for toonami, adult swim and techtv i would never have loved it liked i do today. I remember when they showed nothing but animes like cowboy bebop(best dubbed series ever), yu yu hakasho, FLCL, dragon and evangelion. ah the good old days.

Don't have a problem with dubs but have to go with Subs.

I watch 60% of my anime subbed, but I prefer Dubbed overall, since Ive met most of the English VAs and respect them for the job they do. and 3/4s of my anime collection is DvD. So yeah... dubbed for me :P

OOPS! Totally misworded what I meant. When I talked about subs I was thinking online subbing groups, not the actual company's which also sub it. Which I guess makes no difference.

About those edits where jokes are inserted and dramatic pauses are replaced with dialog. You have to take into consideration that they have to make it appeal to the American market. If they didn't make such changes to DBZ back then, the show wouldn't have appealed to me as a kid and possibly to other children to..

The only good dub anime is golden boy (in my opinion) :)

Agreed, also I can't imagine the proportions being like it is in the polls or companies wouldnt bother producing anime in English, so something is up...

you know it depends for me did i hear/watch it subbed or dubbed first.

One that I tried to watch dubbed first was Love Hina and man did the voices suck so I watch it subbed and liked that more.
Another was Tsubasu Chronicles I had watch subbed hated the voices but loved it dubbed it all depends on the voices for me.

But one exception was Utaweremono *i cant remember how to spell it* and i liked both dubbed and subbed versions.
