The only instance that I am aware of in which the dub is superior to the sub is in Dragon Ball Z, otherwise, the sub is usually more appealing.

Just like how there are good and bad dubs, there are certainly good and bad subs; you just need to know who's good: m.3.3.w, Eclipse, Shinsen-subs, Static-subs, Ayu, Ureshii, Frostii, gg, a4e, A-E, B-A, etc. etc.This reminds me of another article I've read; thinking I found it at theotaku.com
Companies like Bandai are working with sub team in an ongoing collaboration to release translated anime into the states and posting them. Just as long as I get the latest on new anime, I'm happy with the releases.

I just feel that Japanese Voice actors have more charisma. It still is a pain in the ass to have to pause and rewind to read an entire sentence that was said in two syllables, though.

It's usually the problem with their voice actor choices and how old/young the North American publisher thinks a character should sound. Some voice actors are really good, most are not. Subbed.

dubs are not good in my opinion because most them don't even attempt to match words with mouth movement although their mostly the cheaper animes it still messes with you if your used to hearing Japanese and reading subs because the voices seem so out of place compared to the Japanese versions so in my opinion subbed is way better.

I don't have a problem with dubbing itself but the quality of most dubs you see is just so awful, I usually just go for subs to avoid wasting time. That and it feels somewhat more genuine.

Subbed. Because i don't have to use speakers... it's hard to hide all that moaning. LOL. Though i could use headphones too. hmmm... but stil.. SUBBED!!

For the most part, I say sub.
To me, it's all about location. If it's something like Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Baccano, Cowboy Bebob or something else with a setting and feel that's very international, or in a setting that's not Japanese in the least (like England or 1920's NYC). I definitly prefer dub. Expecialy with Hellsing or Baccano, where not a single character is Japanese and hearing it come out an Englishman's or Mafioso's mouth is just plain strange.
On the other hand, with Anime that take place mostly or all in Japan (and there are a lot), I much prefer sub. Like Lucky Star in English!? No thank you. Besides the fact that NO ONE can match Aya Hirano's Konata voice, hearing English come out of the mouths of a Japanese cast is also just plain strange to me (this is expecialy true for me when it comes to the Slice of Life and School Life genres).
However, there are Anime (like Haruhi Suzumiya, Full Metal Panic, and Negina!?) that have mostly Japanese casts and takes place mostly in Japan that have dubs that were very well voiced, and were just as good as the original, I think. However, I still find myself watching subs most of the time. I'll watch them dubbed if I say to myself "Hm, I feel different today, etc, etc..." (There's only one exception to the rule and that's Samurai Champloo. Even though it takes place entierly in Japan's Edo period, the dub is just SO damn good I almost never watch it in the original Japanese).

Though somehow I think that chosing between subbed and dubbed Anime is not really fair. Simply because the Japanese industry is bigger, better organised and can put more money into a series compared to western dubbing companies.

i always prefere subbed, but like some said before, there are a few good dubs out there, like full metal alchemist and... well i don't watch dubs so often so i don't know any other example... eureka 7 was... okay... but not realy good...

subbed of course. because if i choose dubbed, then i wont get listen to lelouch voice and other great seiryuu, like mio from k on.

I prefer dubbed just for the sake of not having to read text, especially for fast paced comedies, but I will agree with most everyone in saying that a huge chunk of dubbed anime isn't that good.
My outlook on it is this: There aren't very many well dubbed anime, but the ones that are good, are really good.

dub for me,... because it makes me do more focus on the visuals why understanding it with my ears,.. its like studying the anime with my eyes to build my skills and enjoying the anime story with my ears^_^,...
but still i want to have the sub after, because Japanese version is still the original version and the creator meant to do it in japanese way,.... Japanese voices are cute^_^,.
