Subbed for the most part, only good dubs were Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Elfen Lied, FMA, FLCL.

Subs but dubbed if the dubbers were PROFESSIONALS like the time when Sony Dubbed Rurouni Kenshin(nostalgia Rush) not those Shitty FANDUBS god i hate them

dub = fake = not their real character
the emotional timing and sense and climax is usually dulled and away from the creator's main ideas. as much as there are black sheep, there are many horrible dubs. but good dubs exist.
meanwhile, i'll stick to subs, as we can get to know their true characters better and relate to the current scene better

of course is subb, i agree with all the people that say cowboy was a good dubb, but the reason was (at least for me) the anime came to this side on tv before the anime was allknow like now, we weren´t used to earing japaness, another little think... DUBB SOCKS!!!! (^_^)

Hm. Depends, really. Mostly on which I saw first. In fact, except when the dub is atrociously bad, I prefer the dub, since then I can pay more attention and don't have my mind stuck on reading the subtitles (this really makes a difference in how well I can appreciate the animation).
However, I still watch subs mostly, because getting dubbed animé simply isn't that easy.

I usually dislike dubbed anime because of the voice acting choices or how the content and original story seems to get messed up. However, I originally watched Fruits Basket dubbed so when I got bought the set for myself and heard Yuki in Japanese.. I couldn't stand it! So that would be my one and only exception. Otherwise I will stick to my subbed anime!

I prefer subbed, but there were ones that I watched dubbed (seemed better) like GTO, Yu-gi-oh and some others

Subbed FTW. Most everyone has already given good reasons why.
One exception: Cowboy Bebop dub was well done. But I still prefer the subbed version.

It generally helps to understand the language first. But once you do that, it becomes a lot easier to discern what was once garble. From that point, it becomes much easier to appreciate the original Japanese VAs.
One important thing is that the conveyance of emotion for Japanese VAs are much more powerful than the majority of the Dubs. It is quite simple. Americans have long considered Animation a second rate aspiration and only for kids. So of course the majority of the VAs there are pretty bad. Some first rate voice work like those of The Simpsons and Family Guy were done primarily by professionals or FULL TIME ACTORS. This also leads to the other problem, the high profile shows monopolize all the good voice actors while the others are left to do the rest. They receive little to no formal training, they really can't train the narm out of their voices very well and it just doesn't sound natural.
But all that aside at least this is not Chinese Voice Acting. No American voice acting, not even for hentai is as bad as Chinese voice acting. The best I've heard so far doesn't match the voice of the character (the Kamen Rider Kabuto Dub was... painful) while the worst sounds like they literally just read it off a sheet of paper in one sitting.

@machdude: I've actually heard of Chinese dubs that were pretty good in my opinion... but of course that was a long time ago and watching 3-4 shows doesn't qualify enough as a sample that would accurately represent the population (of anime series dubbed in Chinese). Other than that, I basically agree with everything you'ved said so far, as I myself have expressed the same things with different wording.

Personally I would say subbed is better but thats just my opinion and I hate the way dubbed sounds. Sounds like every girl is getting raped everytime they get hurt. But everyone has their own opinion.
