Only a select few anime are better dubbed (such as Cowboy Bebop.)
Subs are nearly always better when done properly

For the most part, I like subs. The problem with this is that I'm a multitask-er so every so often I'll pick a series at random dubbed so that I can read/game/whatever and still follow the story accurately. So far I've only been disappointed in the Getbackers dub, but I've been perfectly happy with the Darker than Black, Speed Grapher, Dragonball, Fullmetal Alchemist and Trigun dubs, among others.

Dubbed anime is great and all if you don't feel like reading, but hearing how terribly matched up the voices are to the characters is like having a nail hammered into my ear. It just doesn't work. Ive said once and I'll say it again subbed is the way to go.

There was only one anime I have seen to date with horrible dubs that i disliked and That was Excel Saga, Random series, really bad english VA`s.

I'm sure this post has been raped with this, but the Dragon Ball series is A-OK with me dubbed. Original, Z and GT are all great. The fact that the show in English is what I grew up watching's probably a gargantuan factor in it, but that doesn't make it any less awesome.
I can't think of a single series other than DB that has a good dub, but I'm sure there're a few slithering in the back of my mind.

I prefer it being voiced in the most appropriate language, but I'll take a sub with unfitting Japanese over a bad dub any day. Cowboy Bebop is best served in English, for example, but I fear what results I would get from a German Full Metal Alchemist. Similarly, Trigun, though it would be most suitably voiced in English (the mangaka has said they speak English), was better with the original Japanese, so subs it was. C'est la vie.

For me, it all depends on the anime. Because I'm for both Japanese and English versions of certain anime I watch. There are some in which I prefer the Japanese version over the English versions (Example: Yu-Gi-Oh! & Law of Ueki) and others in that I prefer the English versions (Example: Most Gundam series & Kaze no Stigma). Generally, if an anime is brought to the U.S. for dubbing, then I look forward to its release because I'd rather listen to a speech rather than having to read subtitles and miss everything else. Of course, I can read and focus on the anime at the same time, but it's just that I can relax a little more to have to hear someone talk without having to read anything. If it's any good, then I'll watch it in English, otherwise, I'll just watch it in Japanese. To me, it just depends on the casting of each versions that'll determine which version I'll watch it in. In most cases, I'll watch it in both versions simply because I can.

Subs to me are generally better just cause the mouth movements fit better with the language and japanese VA's protray WAY more emotion and skill in their work than i've seen with dub.
however some dubs are just plain win..yu yu hakusho, moonphase (primarily Monica Rial =), dbz, gurren, samurai x (sometimes, cory can be really annoying in dub)and inuyasha. these are the few cases so far that i would probably be angry if i couldn't find/watch them in dub =0
