I don't see why not, my country (Canada) has had it for a few years and our crime rate is low.

There are plenty of people that want to be treated equally in some ways, but reciieve special privelages in others.

Take women. "We wanna be treated equally in the workplace." No. They wanna get PAID equally...they still wanna get treated like a woman. I like working in a factory cause the women there don't give a shit, "Hey Monica! You're looking fucking HOT today!" Monica: "Fucking right I am!"

Any other place? "Hey Monica! Looking fucking smoking today." *lawsuit*

Minorities? Not to be racist but Affirmative Action is bullshit. That is all.

Handicapped people? "I wanna park in the front of the parking lots, I want to get a free expressway to the front of every line, and if anyone calls bullshit, I get to get them kicked out of the establishment. I also want the ability to not work if I don't want to and still get paid."

Good point, but those are what these people WANT. Kids want a lot of things as well. So do these people. You gonna spoil the shit out of them, or...?

And also, marriage should be a standard right for all people. Marriage shouldn't be a special privilege here, it should be for all. A basic right.

Yes I see no reason to ban marriage between gays. People seem to forget we used to ban interracial marriage too.

Giving freedom to other groups is one step into the right direction.

I don't see what the big deal is. Its stupid to not let people marry all because they like the same race. And this coming from someone who is a Christian.

Marriage is no longer a religious affair. And Marriage was not started as a religious affair either.

The idea of marriage can be trace back to numerous documents from the Sumerian period 2500 BC.

The gist is that women were property. A male would negotiate a contract with the future father-in-law. The contract was a guarantee from the wife's family, that the husband would have a mate from their family, or the wife's family would have to give back everything that was agreed upon. If the husband were to die, his family would be required to give a replacement male or give up all the things that was agreed upon. Women were the binding entity that joined a contract between two households.

So don't pull this marriage is religious bullshit because that is not how it started. I hate when people don't even look something up before they make such statements.

It's wasn't wiki bullshit. Look it up yourselves if you want. But marriage began as a contract between two households long before the bible. Sure religion used marriage for their own but cultures long ago had their own versions of marriage without having anything to do with religion.

Just look it up yourself if you want. But you should already know marriage predates the bible easily. So saying that gays shouldn't marry because of what the bible says is pointless.

I hate when people try to claim to be the creator of something that they just stole the concept of. Like how Christians stole December 25 away from the Romans and tried to claim it as their own just so they could try to stop paganism. And it seems most people today don't even know the origins of popular events they cherish.

Life will go on if people of the same gender take advantage of marriage benefits. The only reason it would not is if people kept making a big deal out of it, after it was allowed. The ONLY reason.

I can't beleive I'm about to agree with Irony on something, but religion didn't have anything to do with marriage before the bible, people just got together and drew a sort of contract between households...nobody's god was involved in it. Their UNION was usually blessed in some way or another, but that was after the fact that they agreed and signed contracts and the like.

Sure religion has been around just as long as man, but the bible itself hasn't been around for ALL that long by comparison, and people have been getting 'married' in a sense since way before the Old Testament was written.
