The True God

Religion is not something to be discussed or be debated unless both arguing parties are of the same religion coz debates and arguments always must end into some conclusion and in this case there will be no conclusion coz neither both side will falter on what they stand on. Each has there own definition of what they believe in. No one can make or say anything to me that will ever change on what I believe in. I don't give a rat's ass about your beliefs. Respect my God as I respect yours, curse my God in my face or in person and I will kill you.

2. You can't respect my god, as I have none. Using your line of reasoning, i don't have any reason to respect you god.
3. Badmouth your god, be it logical or not, and violence is the solution. Yeah, what an efficient religion. Problems can be solved very quickly. Sign me in, buddy.

Gonna go ahead and quote you here,
I know for a fact that all monotheistic religions are false
So...yeah, you did say you KNOW there's no god.
I said there is no evidence for god so therefore my position is at default which is atheism. Until that religion is proven atheism is the position that is taken. That is what a skeptic would do. He wouldn't accept something until evidence is shown. It takes no faith to be an atheist as you are born one. I mainly said that so far the gods of the religions I have known about are false because of the claims they make have been disproved. The claims that are impossible to test are ignored until evidence is shown. And yes the part of religion that holds dogmatic beliefs that are unquestioned and accepted are the part that hold back civilization. It has in the past.
In yet it hasn't stopped us from developing as we have today. So obviously it's not holding us back as much as YOU seem to think so. Shut the hell up, religion is not doing anything bad today. some PEOPLE who are religious may be, but that's just people being dicks. The base root of religion is still good. If religion has been holding us back, then we'd still be living in cottages by candlelight, and you and I would probably have never even thought the other one could have existed.
There is a reason why I use religion and it's because it takes too long to lists all of the ones I despise. There are over 10,000 religious denominations and I do not have time to list all the ones I want. You may thing I am attacking every single religion but it's certain parts of dogma. Like the part that made you think it's ok to kill without a law telling you not to.
I'd like yo to point out ay religion that says it's ok to kill others. The religion doesn't DO that, it's some fucked up individual that read their holy text a million times, and went crazy because of it. You blame religion on things that's not religion's fault, that's YOUR main problem.
If you really want to see if your version religion is on the list that I despise all you need to do is tell me your beliefs.
You shouldn't be despising religion at all, it's done nothing despicable. And if you go ahead and mention the salem witch trials and shit again, I'm going to point out that you never acknowledged Doctor Mendela as a REALLY bad person Science produced, making all those examples null.
George Carlin says it best.
Lol, you think a George Carlin routine is proof that religion is bullshit? It's not. He's a comedian, a funny comedian but a comedian nonetheless. He holds no doctorate in philosophical study or anything credible, he was just an old guy who was very, VERY opinionated. Fuck he dropped out of school around the age of 15. He said it in a funny way, but damn near anyone with a degree will be able to point out how wrong he is on some things.

My action is my own, yes it is against my religion to sort in violence, but this is my choice, this also comes from the teaching. my God has given me the power of wisdom to know the right from wrong, and by this wisdom I too know the consequence of my action, let my God do the proper judgment upon me coz I will accept it. Also same as the mother teaching her children that its bad to hurt a person no matter the reason but a child will still hurt anyone who badmouth her mother.
I pity people who doesn't believe in Gods coz when they die, they do not hope of some place they might return to, just seize to exist... And that's scary.

Doesn't matter what they say in court. Atheism has nothing to define itself as a religion so you lose. I mean at one time the law said it was ok to own Africans as slaves, does that make it right? At one time is was ok to beat your wife if the stick you were using was no thicker than your thumb. Does that make it right because the law said so?
When I said the great monotheistic religions I meant the ones pertaining to the god Yahweh. I never said all gods. The reason I can say they are false is because they make bold claims that have been disproved already. Religion was holding us back when it had control. Even though America is mainly religious the laws forbid certain things that would have been ok in the dark ages. Like how we have church separate from state.
And yes There are religions that specifically say kill nonbelievers or those who don't believe in your religion. It is said many times in the Qur'an. There are also some violent passages in the old testament with god asking for death of women and children. You may say that the old testament doesn't count, but when Jesus came to be he also said he wasn't there to throw away the old laws. If these people who did follow that religion really cared about those things they would take out the parts of the bible that they disagree with.
Also that doctor guy doesn't matter because science does not have any doctrines. There is not one doctrine of science. It would be like saying Stalin did horrible things because he had a mustache. Difference between science and religion is that religion has a set of doctrines telling you what to do and science doesn't. Well and science actually is meant to find out truth while religion isn't.
Doesn't matter if George Carlin never have a degree, doesn't take a rocket scientist to know when something is obviously bullshit. I think science is more important than philosophy when it comes to finding out the truth so if you want to hear about religion then read these books.
Richard Dawkin's the God Delusion. I am sure he has enough of an educational background.
Or how about Sam Harris's Letter to a Christian Nation or The end of Faith. He has a PhD in Neuroscience.
If you must have a philosopher then try Daniel Dennet's Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon.
Oh and tell me what George Carlin said that was wrong? Since you think you somehow know. And if you don't know then how can you know other's do?

If you need religion to tell you right from wrong then there is something seriously messed up with you.
Oh yes let some god handle it. Let some thing that has not shown a shred of evidence for existence handle it. Maybe I should pray to Zeus for what I want. Maybe the Giant Spaghetti monster can do it. I mean they all have the same amount of evidence for existence. Which is none.
Oh and about life and death......I like how Carl Sagan says it.
"The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true."
It would be nice to live a little longer but an eternity would be torture. I just don;t see any evidence for an afterlife so I can't throw away my rationality just to feel good. I am not that drunk guy who uses alcohol to make himself feel good until his liver is destroyed. If you really want to feel good at all times there are drugs that can do that.....although they may kill you too.
When I look at someone who is dead I see nothing. They are gone. I see no soul, their is no evidence of anything leaving the body. When I look at a brain dead person I see the same thing. They may have a heart that is still pumping but they are no long conscious. They are a vegetable. When you try to say there is life after death you open a can of worms. You now have many questions to answer in order for your assumption to seem logical.

I have my own idea on this, but I wanna know your views first.

P.S. This will not be a thread of theist vs atheist or christians vs muslims or whatever. Just share your views. Atheistic and agnostic views are welcome.
What happened here? This isn't a discussion anymore, it's a shouting match. All this, "You lose", "Thus, I win" doesn't belong here. All you have to do is post your belief. That's it. Please, calm down.
Now, for my belief: I profess the Christian faith, however I do also believe that many other religions are also correct. The bible contains several references to other gods, spirits, whatever, and their works/magic/miracles. My own, personal interpretation of this is that many religions are "right", my God is simply put, stronger. Sounds like fighting words, I know, but I don't wish for a shouting match, this is just what I believe. Oh yeah, and I also hold the philosophy that not being of my faith is... your choice, no harm, no foul. It's your own business what happens to you. If your actions are good, fine, if they're not, also fine, as long as your actions don't result in harm to others.

Purely Atheist forever and I have developed a rather aggresive view on religion (Christianity namely). I know/have met a number of people who are religious because it fills a void in their life and gives them a set of morals to live by. Granted, these morals could be easily derived from using logic and just being smart, but it works for them. These people I feel no qualms toward and enjoy happy relationships with.
However, (sadly) the majority of Christians I meet are people who believe their actions are justified by god. They use god as a shield, hiding behind their faith. They use their religion as an unjust banner, garnering support not based on their views, but by some other being who we don't even know exists. They push their religion onto others, ignoring the persons right to freedom of choice. If the person decides not to agree, they are "pitied" and cried for, they are going to die. This god of theirs is giving me the choice of falsely following his beliefs, or going to hell for having the freedom to pick. Their arguments are shallow and they refuse to look at evidence. They follow a 2,000 year old book rewritten countless of times. History has pointed out the flaws of their story and yet they ignore it. People who close themselves off to other views and choose to be closeminded re the ones who infuriate me the most. I meet these people on a much more frequent basis, and maybe it is just me getting unlucky with the religious community.
Sorry for the wall of text. TL;DR, I don't believe in god but I'm fine with people who use religion normally. The people who take it to the next level and act as total dicks about it, yeah, I really hate those people.

Ooh. How nice of you to even be willing to go against the teachings just to protect the pride of that teaching. Sounds like "I'll kill you to relieve you of your pain" to me. Let God judge your action, huh...well, don't worry. Daddy will forgive you. You won't taste the fire.
Seriously, if you need God to set your moral values, well, whatever. You just don't have enough mental capacity to derive it yourself, so I can't exactly blame you either. Just know that the calmness you get from it it an illusion and that's as far as it goes. Oh, good analogy btw. It shows perfectly that your pride and selfishness are above your morals.
And hey, thanks for pitying me. I know I'm not as much a coward as you are in dealing with this existence stuff. You're afraid of not existing, so you invent some kinda explanation to spare you the fear. I don't see the point of that though. I am when death is not, and when death be I am not.
But I know the idea of god is a very appealing one. It gives you great comfort, and only asks for your ignorance.

What the hell? Doesn't that contradict the point of the religion? I had believed that Christianity promoted peace but all it is, is based on contradictions?
Look into my eyes and it's easy to see that one and one makes two and another makes three.

I'm mostly likely agnostic. I never know if there is. I don't believe in any of the "Official Gods." Who was it that said, "God didn't Man, Man created God." And what about that, "God created man in his own image," stuff. That God is a narcissist.
My opinion of a God would be benevolent, not judgmental. Wouldn't punish you, but instead help you with problems. And God wouldn't have let people go to war or let children suffer or anyone suffer for that matter. That is my view of an ideal God.

If you don't believe in any of the official gods then you are probably an atheist.
If you don't know whether thee is one that also makes you agnostic.
So you are most likely an atheist agnostic just like me.

Lol, so your definition of atheist is one who don't believe only in those official gods? Kinda different with the one I go with...
I think an atheist is one who don't believe in any form of supernatural creator of the nature, be it official or no. So to those who say "I don't know if there is", regardless of whatever they mean by "there is", they're agnostic. Just agnostic.

Agnosticism has nothing to do with belief.
Agnosticism only has to do with "what you can know"
It is a knowledge based statement not a belief one.
You can be a theist agnostic too or gnostic. Same goes with atheism or deism etc. etc.
If he does not believe in any of the official gods and still believes in a higher power he is most likely a deist. But he never said if he believed in a higher power. So I am "assuming" he is an atheist.

I belong to the christian faith, but I don't practice it so much anymore due to my own concept of what god is. I don't think god is a being at all. If anything, god is a force that is made up of everything in existence, just as all the cells in our body make up who we are.So are you trying to define the universe as god?
I mean it's and unneeded definition since we have one but better than many of the other definitions I hear.
I would just call it the universe not god.
Yeah I was refering to the universe. I don't really refer to the universe as god though, hence why I said if god was anything, it would be everything.

Well when using the word universe it is usually meant to say all time, matter, energy and space. So basically they mean everything.
Switching words around is unneeded.

Convincing people who doesn't believe in God are like convincing an idiot to stop being an idiot. To my fellow believers you are wasting your time with these lost souls, just state your point and opinion then walk away. The explanation is simple, they suck at life and succumb to loneliness that they closed themselves to any form of hope or salvation.

Religion is like a bowl of cereal: chock full of flakes, fruits and nuts.
Your the kind of religious person who is the idiot. You are stain to the real intellectuals who are religious.
If you need to make up a god to explain away your fear and ignorance then you fail at life. Go have fun with your hard on for god maybe you can get it doggy style from him.
