what is your opinion on marijuana?

and dont start dissing this thread cuz i said weed. I'm actually being serious here. i honestly think that marijuana SHOULD be legalized. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING harmful in weed. it is harmless than cigs or alz. the public opinion on weed is ALL wrong or biased. weed is NOT a gateway drug, nor does it make you stupid or lazy. You do not go crazy like alz when you take too much and beat your family. i think marijuana is a safe and useful plant. i personally think of it as herbs. what do you think?

INB4 stoners vs non-stoners.
This topic has been beaten to death in so many places. Also, I don't care if it isn't legalized. I'll still smoke.

I think it should be legalized cause two simple reasons
1)Less harmful than Cigs and Alcohol
2)There are reported medical uses for it.
That is all.
inb4 the idiot who says that this topic should die

Legalize it, not because I smoke, do you know how much money a country would make off taxing marijuana.

I don't smoke, but I got no problems with most people smoking. I do think toking up is kinda masturbatory, it doesn't benefit you in any way except short-term satisfaction. It's not a good habit to keep your entire life.
I really hate when a not-at-all-bright stoner goes off on a tangent about how it should be legalized, getting high makes you (temporarily) dumb, and the threat of legal persecution, I think it sort of keeps people in line; I think if you're foolish enough to get caught by someone who could put you in jail for it (cop, spiteful roommate/family member), you're too stupid to safely toke up, and you really shouldn't be allowed near weed.

I also do not smoke, and I don't have a problem with people who do. If they were to legalize marijuana i wouldn't be against it... I would rather have people smoke and drive than drink and drive. From what I've seen, people who smoke are more paranoid. Which i think would lead to better driving. (If they chose to drive while high, which I'm highly against.)

I smoke occasionally but am against legalizing of marijuana for anything more than medical uses, or under very controlled circumstances.
and don't give me that "Cannabis is harmless" bullshit since you know it isn't, lets first of get some facts down. Cannabis does NOT do as much direct harm to your body than neither alcohol or nicotine does, neither is it physically addictive in the same way. All seems good so far right? You can not overdose cannabis as you can with alcohol(And nicotine, but probably not from just smoking).
BUT
The dangers of cannabis is having a bad trip and going into a psychosis or a panic attack, it's a small risk, but you know just as well as I do that it exists and that blazing weed enhances the danger way more than just drinking. And do not forget the fact that if you smoke "too much" THC can stock up in your fat-cells, mostly around the brain.
Now that's the bad part; it has been proven that THC unbalances the amount of anandamide in the body since anandamide is a natural cannabinoid that should exist in our bodies, but as always when we put in some other substance similar to this the body stops making as much anandamide since the body suddenly have a storage of it.
It has been proven that these stocked-up cannabinoids have a probability of causing psychoses years later, with the cause to why the body suddenly reacts to it unknown.
So no, cannabis should not be legalized until we have a better way of know what it actually does to the bodily systems. Not because I believe that people who smoke weed are bad, more on the contrary, but legalization of it will obviously make it easier for people who shouldn't smoke get their hands on it. And therefore bring forth pretty much the same problem we have with alcohol.

thank you for people who are discussing this seriously. and chlor, i do think you are very right. but as you mentioned, there is probability in psychoses. now this probability is quite low if i remember. i believe that if this probability is low and there are methods to treat this in the future, then there should be no problem to this.

I haven't really studied up on it, but I question how significant any medical benefits from marijuana could actually be in the long run. The danger of a common place narcotic is outweighed by medical benefits? Bah, but whatever, I'm not doctor.

Yes because legalizing it would give the government greater control over it. Plus it would be more income to the government and less income to the mobs.

it also stunts brain development in teens and young adults because like all types of things you inhale it replaces a vital thing in your body. the TCH does what he said up there^^^ but it also starts to attack the neurons in your brain, kills them and then disrupts normal communication between braincells now ironically this is 1 of the upsides because in older people it actually targets old and cancer riden cells as well as Parkinsons...EXT. HOWEVER the developing brain is very susceptible to any form of drug use because you are only killing new brain cells and not old ones (btw the "high" feeling is your brain temporarily dieing, before it makes new brain cells, which is y u get memory loss and other things on occasion) and it can be highly dangerous if the circumstances are right

Legalize. Regulate. Tax.
Legalize:
Regulate:
Tax:
The true question of the benefit of taxing weed is, will the socio-economic costs outweigh the tax benefits generated by it's legalization.
Let me draw a picture of what I'm getting at.
Studies show that the U.S. collects about $8 billion yearly in taxes from alcohol. The problem is, the total cost to the U.S. in 2008 due to alcohol-related problems was $185 billion, and the government pays about 38% of that cost (approximately $72 billion), all due to consequences of alcohol consumption, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism. For every dollar the government collects in alcohol taxes, it expends about $9 (for such things as Medicare and Medicaid treatment for alcohol-related health troubles, long-term rehabilitation treatment, unemployment costs, and welfare).

If we can figure out what triggers the psychosis and/or find a proper way to treat psychoses everything would be fine.
But to bring more bad news about this: We barely even know what a psychosis actually are, even less how to treat properly one, all we do at this time is to stuff patients full of anesthetics and wait for it to pass.
We know that people under lot of stress, that are unhealthy or have other mental illnesses are more prune to go into a psychosis, and we know that doing drugs increases the risk, but we still don't know why.
Infact, it has been discussed that what mood you're in when smoking weed has quite a huge impact on the risk of going into a psychosis. Apparently people who smoke when they're in a bad mood or under a lot of psychological stress is more probable to have a psychosis than people that are in a good mood at the time of smoking.

LEGALIZE: I have no problem with ppl who smoked and I smoked for the longest myself... By time I am old enough to retire if weed isn't legal I plan on moving out to the country and smoking all the time... because the only reason I don't smoke now is because of drug testing... BTW nice factorial piece Fiery Penguin of Doom...

"I think we should legalize marijuana . . . so potheads have nothing to talk about ever again." - Daniel Tosh
Joking aside, I've taken myself out of the whole legalization argument because my personal feelings get in the way, and I find myself unable to push them to the side. I dislike weed a lot, because of shit that's happened to loved ones due to the drug (their fault more than the drug's, but still).
Anyways, I can say this: If weed gets completely legalized, people will still use it illegally. People will still piss and moan (on both sides, pro-weed and anti-weed). Legalizing it won't save the world or put potheads in charge of things. It also won't ruin the world or screw everything up. If weed's legal, a politician could go to work stoned, but right now, a politician could go to work drunk.
