i was actually very surprised that some of the ppl i asked who smoke don't want it to be legalized for several reasons.1. The tax
2. The dealers will do anything to make weed illegal which will stir problems.
3. marijuana is whats stopping the dealers from selling hard drugs. (if weed isn't a profit anymore, the dealers will have to turn towards hard drugs)
@iast, weed is pretty pricey here... lucky my cousin is... you know...
$20 for a purp the size of your thumb.
That's about the price for it here as well without the deal but I rarely come around purple haze. Sour Diesel, crappy China Bud (when I'm broke), Northern Lights...pretty much it haha and good ol Kush. I haven't been chilling with people from the co-ops too much nowadays since I don't ball there no more so I haven't blazed a lot for the past few months.

Except the kids who want to smoke weed but aren't of age. But then again, we get alcohol easy :S so nvm. Point is invalid haha...
I say crack cocaine is a bigger business than marijuana I doubt violence will ensue over the legalization of it. I'm sitting on the fence about it now. Whatever happens happens I guess.

I personally think it smells and tastes disgusting. Like it feels good for a while but then I'm like... Eh :/ the gagging and smell make it pointless to me. I don't know
like I think if we legalize marijuana the short term effect will be idiots who want to smoke all day having a field day. America would become an amsterdam type place probably. But in the long run I think the hype will die down and people can stop doing stupid crap just to get it.
But if it were up to me I wouldn't legalize it because A) the government has so many more dire issues to focus on and B) Americans would be too enamored with it. A lot of people plead it's not addictive but then why are their stoners? Like theirs so many people who say they can stop but honestly can't. It makes em smell so bad and ... Ughh if you give weed to an all ready dumb person... It only makes things worse let's say.

I don't smoke pot, and I don't plan on ever smoking pot. I do, however, have no issues with others smoking it, except in my house/apartment/room and around me, just out of respect for my beliefs as well. In the end I have no real thoughts on the legalization of pot, though I am more inclined towards keeping it non-legalized, but that's just because the laws that the US currently has about alcohol should be revised, specifically the drinking age, but that's just me.

I don't mind marijuana being legalized when you people are saying that it has some medical uses and probably harmless than cigars as long as it would still be regulated by law.
Even if you're saying that marijuana is good for some purposes, it would not still change the fact that it is DANGEROUS and ADDICTING.

Its not in anyway addicting =\ and probably only dangerous if you smoke it, like smoking anything.

I wonder if the money from taxes would out weigh the money spent on assisting those who need care from lung cancers and whatnot developed from smoking. I would be interested to know how much we spend on people suffering from medical issues caused by cigaretts and how much we make on taxing cigs. That would be a good indicator.
It isn't biologically addicting be it can be psychologically addicting.

Really? I just think people who are addicted to marijuana are just fucking stupid, weak mentally and have nothing to do with their lives. Really..how do you get addicted to something that isn't addictive?
I used pot regularly but I got off it in a snap. It wasn't hard and there are no withdrawal effects.

That's why the government is helping us to prevent it from happening. You would never know on when you would be addicted to it.

Well take internet for example. Korea has dozens of Internet Rescue Schools (IRS lulz) because it is one of the most plugged in societies to internet. Kids literally will not go to school because they are stuck on the internet, and even a few people have died in internet cafes in Ragnarok marathons. There is nothing biologically addicting, but people get addicted anyways since it fills a void in their life that something more... "constructive"... would fill. Weed is the same, but unfortunately it also has medical consequences.

In that case we should just legalize every drug. Get crack addicts on the street and heroin in vending machines. Gotta consider the bad things too.

yeah, well coke and heroin is the most physically addictive drug AND extremely harmful to your health. i don't think comparing coke and heroin with marijuana makes sense. plus look at Amsterdam. you can buy a limited amount of personal weed in coffee shops like buying coffee.
FYI, weed was illegalized due to racism, greed and propaganda.
there was an anti-mexican and african-american movement in the 1930's and (like all propaganda is) claimed marijuana is a EXTREMELY harmful drug and related to these ethnic groups.
Now that it's illegal, and cigs are a MAJOR business in US, the cig company does not want people to turn towards other stuff that is proved to be beneficial if controlled. Guess where the majority of the funds for the government came from? tell me why the government does not legalize weed when its PROVEN to be beneficial and has medical use? guess what was George Washington's major crop? Guess what the United States Constitution is made of? Guess what was required to be grown by law by settlers in the US? AND AGAIN, Guess what was the first ever paper made by ancient China made of? What did the ancient Chinese us this as also? Guess what? weed was SMOKED 5 millennium years ago.
it's all a misunderstanding...

It has medical use but it isn't like a blunt a day keeps the doctor away. It is still bad for you.
And while Cigs are a major business in the US, they cost more in productivity and health issues then they give back in taxes. Politicians just don't go after them because as long as there is a "legal" cigerette industry, there wont be mobs and cigerrete dealers creating a huge black market.

I'm not fond of either tobacco or weed, primarily because most people who use them near me tend to be extremely inconsiderate.
Seriously, is it too much to ask for people to obey the "No Smoking" signs in front of the main and emergency entrances to the county hospital?

Weed is illegal pretty much because we in the western world don't have a tradition of smoking weed, or opium, or any other "natural drug" for that matter. Instead we drink and smoke other plats, this are the natural drugs that we have a history and tradition of consuming, and because we have this tradition we won't illegalize it. Out of habit, if we had been smoking pot in the same amount as we have been drinking alcohol we would have kept it legal.
As for the debate on however cannabis are addicting I'll just assume that this discussion contains both weed and hash, since they spawn from the same place.
Weed has no physical addiction, that has been prove, because there are nothing that the body will crave more of. Instead it can create a psychological addiction if you use it to much, the same way anything can. I'll bet my ass on that if most people on here had to turn their comps of for a whole day they'll get kinda restless too. (If they don't keep up doing something else productive, but you get my point.)
But hash is infact slightly addicting, how much is depended on the kind of hash you're smoking, since it's not the cannabis in it that addicts you. It has something to do with a substance in the indica(the kind of plant most commonly used to refine for hash). I'm not entirely sure about how that shit works, but it is apparently slightly addicting.

That's still not going to change the fact that there are still some hardcore potheads who just smoke pot all day and do nothing. Even if it's legalized, they'll smoke pot still. Lol.
