Star Wars: The Old Republic - Online

Bunch of people tried to get me into the game, claiming this game will be totally different and so much better than WoW in every regard.
I played the beta and right away I took a windrider spacetaxi to some questgiver who wants me to kill 10 pigs raiders and free 5 captivated orcs jedis. When some dead mob sparkled beamed I kneed down and a loot window popped up under my mouse. This is surprisingly familiar.

Haven't played WoW myself so can't compare. Some standard elements will always be familiar, though. Don't fix it if it isn't broken and people are already used to it. The whole game feels actually pretty similar to any BioWare single-player RPG. Unless you need or want to team up with others, or someone gets in your way in fixing/destroying/whatever some (side-)quest objects, you wouldn't almost notice the difference. Comparing this to the grindfest that are the free MMO's my brother usually plays, the experience is still on a completely different level. The fully voiced cinematic conversations are quite nice as well, although occasionally my character apparently likes to play a ventriloquist - at least he doesn't move his mouth when talking at times. :D
PVP server, I see.

Edit: So my first impression after a day was "Just another cookie-cutter MMO with lots of cutscenes". But the more I play, the more I like it. Tons of choices to make during quests. Also just did my first group quests and I was assuming each player went into his or her own instance of conversations. But I really like the way all players join in the same conversation and everyone has a chance to make the response.
Although I was worried about suffering the consequences of a dark-side aligned player making choices, I was happy to read that you still get the alignment points of your own intentions. Very cool.

The game launched today and I've been thinking about getting it.
Is it any good? Would anyone recommend it?

One of the very few games that have managed to keep me playing until 3 AM and more, so definitely would recommend. My evenings have all disappeared into this game for the last week...

I have a question. I've never played an MMO before and I was wondering what internet speed would be the bare minimum that I could play this on. I ask because I have dial-up internet at home with no way to get better internet in the foreseeable future. inb4 laughing-whores.jpeg.

I feel like something is being implied here.
Anyhow, i might end up playing if enough of my friends get it. I'm kind of milked dry on MMOs after playing Everquest then WoW Vanilla to Wrath.

I haven't lasted for a week in any other I've tried. Admittedly, there haven't been that many either. With the addition of strong story content, this one definitely looks like a keeper, though. I already want to see other classes' stories as well after this.

Just had the most fun I've ever had in an MMO. Friend and I made a couple Bounty Hunters and stuck together all day. Not only was BH a fun class to play, it really feels like a coop Bioware game with the way the conversations work.

Does anyone else think that the "full" servers don't feel full at all? Even after waiting in a queue I don't see many people no matter what planet I'm on. The fleet even seems lacking in people running around, trading, training, grouping, etc. The chats are slow and I stood around for 30 minutes looking for a group for one of the flashpoints.
Maybe it's just me. Wondering if anyone else notices the same.

Huh... Should I play SWTOR despite playing WoW? I love the bioware story but boy..... it such a carbon copy in gameplay that I can feel it.
Hale, isn't cause there like multiple channel in a server (from what ive heard in a video).

There are different instances in some areas, but (someone correct me if I'm wrong) I think the chats are still linked between them. So I still can't explain my difficulty finding a group. It's been getting better the last couple days. Perhaps it was the 20th launch people filling up the server and they just weren't far enough yet.
As for whether or not you should play I can't say for sure. I played wow quite a lot, but that was 5 years ago or so. I'm enjoying the stories so far and I like having a companion with me when I'm out questing. If you have someone to play with I'd recommend it.
